On this BONUS EPISODE of CASCADE OF HISTORY Feliks Banel presents portions of a rare aircheck from KIRO Newsradio 71's May 18, 1990 broadcast from atop Mount St. Helens. The tenth anniversary of the 1980 eruption inspired the station to mount an ambitious and expensive production, the likes of which aren't seen much on the radio landscape these days. As described on the May 18, 2025 broadcast of CASCADE OF HISTORY by Bill Yeend and Andy Ludlum, the pair broadcast from the edge of the volcano's crater from 5:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., with a mixture of live and pre-recorded reports. Yeend and Ludlum were joined in the broadcast tent by KIRO Newsradio 71's managing editor Karen Anderson and broadcast engineer Norm Graham. Among other voices heard on this recording are Paul Brendle, John Chelminiak, Dave Dolacky, Rebecca Hale, Gregg Hersholt, Dave Stone, Kathleen Warren and former Governor Dixy Lee Ray. CASCADE OF HISTORY is broadcast LIVE most Sunday nights at 8pm Pacific Time via SPACE 101.1 FM in Seattle and gallantly streams everywhere via space101fm.org. The radio station is located at historic Magnuson Park - formerly Sand Point Naval Air Station - on the shores of Lake Washington in Seattle. Subscribe to the CASCADE OF HISTORY podcast via most podcast platforms.
Rebecca Hale has been a physical therapist for 24 years working with clients from the age of 2 months to 103 years old. Her specialty is working with the misunderstanding of autism, adhd and trauma. The one thing she has consistently seen over the years is how important it is to create a safe space for people to trust her and learn to trust themselves. In a safe, supported space, movement provides the opportunity to release trapped emotions that otherwise manifest as dis-ease within the body. Rebecca is an author in the newly released Book Warrior women where she shares her story about how a new hobby of golf, connected all the dots of her own trauma healing and inspired her to create fun opportunities to learn about the power of their nervous system Join us for Ordinary People/Extraordinary Lives August 9th and anytime in podcast. Today’s episode is a collection of short interviews I did with some of the speakers and attendees of last week’s Women in Secularism 4 conference in Arlington, VA. Women in Secularism is a yearly conference put on by the Center for Inquiry where a diverse group of women talk about what it means to be a secular woman, not just in theory but in practice. This year’s convention featured conversations about why there aren’t many out secular women, what it means to matter, and a heated yet still interesting discussion about the safe space debate. I wasn’t able to interview everyone I wanted to, but I did manage to snag a few great speakers, so today we’re gonna hear from blogger Dr. Ashley F. Miller, American Humanist Association president Rebecca Hale, Yvette d’Entremont the SciBabe, philosopher Rebecca Newberger Goldstein, and ex-Muslim activist Maryam Namazie.Links:•Dr. Ashley F.
