In this week’s episode, Christians will take their balls and go home, Heath’s opening bullet point will get cut from the intro because it refers to a story we decided to push to next week and that’ll make the intro sound weird, and Steve Anderson is reminded that in Ireland, they drive out the snakes. --- To make a per episode donation at Patreon.com, click here: http://www.patreon.com/ScathingAtheist To buy our book, click there: http://www.amazon.com/Diatribes-Godless-Misanthrope-Scathing-Presents-ebook/dp/B00J53FZFI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396141562&sr=8-1 To check out our sister show, The Skepticrat, click here: https://audioboom.com/channel/the-skepticrat To check out our sister show’s hot friend, God Awful Movies, click here: https://audioboom.com/channel/god-awful-movies To check out out half-sister show, Citation Needed, click here: http://citationpod.com/ To hear more from our intrepid audio engineer Morgan Clarke, click here: https://www.morganclarkemusic.com/ --- Guest Links: Check out the Gaytheist Manifesto here: https://www.queersplaining.com/category/episode/ Check out the Happy Munday podcast here: --- Headlines: Christians freak out about Brian Sims: https://friendlyatheist.patheos.com/2019/05/07/conservatives-livid-after-pa-lawmaker-notes-anti-abortion-protesters-hypocrisy/ Catholic League says Sims filming abortion protesters needs a criminal probe: https://friendlyatheist.patheos.com/2019/05/09/catholic-league-pa-lawmaker-filming-abortion-protesters-needs-criminal-probe/ MAGA cultist says Sims must "suck a dick" to prove to me that he's gay: https://friendlyatheist.patheos.com/2019/05/11/maga-cultist-pa-rep-brian-sims-must-suck-a-dick-to-prove-to-me-that-hes-gay/ Christian hate-preacher Steven Anderson has been banned from entering Ireland: https://friendlyatheist.patheos.com/2019/05/13/christian-hate-preacher-steven-anderson-has-been-banned-from-entering-ireland/ Christian school quits athletic conference for letting trans kids do sports https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2019/03/22/maryland-high-school-leaves-athletic-conference-over-transgender-policy/?utm_term=.8ac99a4d6f14 ND man pleads guilty to jacking off into church’s baptismal font: https://friendlyatheist.patheos.com/2019/05/08/nd-man-pleads-guilty-to-masturbating-in-churchs-baptismal-pool-during-mass/ --- This Week in Misogyny: Alabama abortion law: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/05/15/alabama-abortion-bill-georgia-abortion-ban-heartbeat-law/3676635002/ Lori Alexander laments girls getting good test scores: https://friendlyatheist.patheos.com/2019/05/11/christian-mom-its-a-travesty-that-girls-are-outperforming-boys-academically/ Pastor rapes 14 year old, gets lenient sentence because he’s a pastor: https://friendlyatheist.patheos.com/2019/05/15/pastor-who-raped-adopted-14-y-o-daughter-gets-lenient-sentence-due-to-his-faith/
Callie Wright is an activist, speaker, and host of The Gaytheist Manifesto podcast, which explores the intersection of the atheist movement and the LGBTQ rights movement. Callie came out as a transgender woman in the summer of 2013, and her mission is to be a voice for the LGBTQ community in the atheist movement, and a voice for secularism in the LGBTQ community. Callie is a regular on the convention circuit in the atheist community, educating and advocating for the LGBT community and the trans community in particular.

I'm so pleased to bring you an interview with Callie Wright, co-host (along with Ari Stillman!) of the Gaytheist Manifesto! Callie speaks about social justice issues with clarity and humanity and is incredible at bringing understanding and learning to those who might not otherwise find it. In that spirit, she's here to take on the recent controversy over Scarlett Johansson playing a transgender role in an upcoming movie. (If you'd like to get a quick introduction to how badly people can misunderstand the issue, check out this aborted column from Business Insider.) After that, we talk about the Netflix Comedy Special from Hannah Gadsby called "Nanette." I absolutely recommend you watch the special before the second half of the show, because - oddly enough - there are spoilers. Leave Thomas a voicemail! On our second episode, Amy and Ami talk with guests, Marissa Alexa McCool and America Darling Curl, about sexual harassment in the atheist community. Specifically, we tackle a major incident that recently occured with a prominent atheist podcaster. We continue to prove that we kind of have no idea what we’re doing with this whole “podcast” thing, but we’re still jumping in with both feet regardless! As always, this episode contains (a lot of) salty language. Consider yourself warned. You can find us on Facebook at Facebook.com/secularsoup You can email us at secularsouppodcast@gmail.com You can’t tweet at us, because we’re too old for the Twitters. A HUGE “thank you” to the following people: -Marissa Alexa McCool for being our guest on this episode, and for producing our podcast. You can find and support Marissa’s most recent project, The Transgender Podcaster Visibility Initiative at Facebook.com/transvisiblepodcaster. -The delightful America Darling Curl for coming on to talk with us and for just generally being amazing. -Callie Wright of The Gaytheist Manifesto for helping out with last minute editing on this episode. It truly does take a village!

My guest for today is Stephanie Zvan. She’s a blogger whose blog, Almost Diamonds, can be found on The Orbit. She’s also one of the organizers for Minnesota Atheists, and one of the hosts of the Atheist Talk radio show. Today we’re going to talk about a recent blog post she wrote about “divisiveness” in the atheist movement. The post was written in response to Dogma Debate host David Smalley’s recent talk at this year’s Gateway to Reason conference (the link to which I’ll put in the show notes). As I tell Stephanie in the interview, at first I thought he did a good job talking about how not to let different opinions divide the movement. But as Stephanie explained, when people in the atheist movement talk about divisiveness, they’re not talking about the “Everyone I don’t like is Hitler” meme.Links:•Almost Diamonds: https://the-orbit.net/almostdiamonds/ •Stephanie’s Twitter: https://twitter.com/szvan•David Smalley’s Gateway to Reason talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9M7-CnIztzs&t=0s •Steve Shives’ video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLRa0Uy47bo&t=0s •The Gaytheist Manifesto: http://gaytheistmanifesto.secularmediagroup.com/ •Dream Youth: http://dreamyouth.bandcamp.com •Asher Silberman: http://www.ashersilberman.com/ •My Twitter: http://twitter.com/tmamone •Bi Any Means on Twitter: http://twitter.com/bianymeanspod •Bi Any Means on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/bianymeanspodcast •The Bi Any Means/Biskeptical Podcast Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/179617892470906/ •Email: bianymeanspodcast@gmail.com •Listener line: 410-690-3558 •My Patreon page: http://www.patreon.com/tmamone •Bi Any Means Blog: http://freethoughtblogs.com/bianymeans/

This was a milestone for Ris, as she completed the circle, going from unaware, to fangirl, to podcaster, to event attendee, and now, a one-on-one with Noah Lugeons. In a frank, honest, deep, and emotional conversation, Ris and Noah talk about everything from podcasts to family to performance art. You'll enjoy it if you're a fan of any of these shows, and are well aware of Ris's extensive fangirling. It's obvious in the voice. My guest for today is Aaron Rabinowitz, co-host of the new podcast Embrace the Void. Here’s what the official description of the show says: “Welcome friends, to a podcast for a darker timeline. Maybe the darkest of all timelines. Definitely not one of the good timelines. Maybe it’s always been a dark timeline, maybe the Hadron collider screwed us over. Science may never know. What we do know is that we live in the void. The void, a place where a chittering mass of void crabs can infest a person suit and win the presidency. The void, a place where we're just clever enough to know that climate change is happening, but not quite clever enough to do anything about it. The void seems terrible and cruel, but it loves you, in its own ironic way.” So today we’re going to talk about philosophy, religion, and what it means to embrace the Void.Links:•Embrace the Void: https://voidpod.com •ETV on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/EmbraceTheVoidPod/ •ETV on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ETVPod •Ashton P. In this episode, the guys analyze the justification given by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein for President Trump to fire former FBI Director James Comey. First, though, fan-favorite Yodelin' Trump returns with a related question from our listeners (including Kevin Hicks), who ask whether Trump's tweet about Sally Yates violated the law. In our main segment, Andrew breaks down the Rosenstein memo. Then, we answer a great listener question from Patron Ben Hatcher, who wants to know exactly what things are admissible in the record on appeal. Finally, we end with the answer to Thomas Takes the Bar Exam Question #23 about a class action breach-of-contract lawsuit against a scammer who sells your private information. Remember that TTTBE issues a new question every Friday, followed by the answer on next Tuesday's show. Don't forget to play along by following our Twitter feed (@Openargs) and/or our Facebook Page and quoting the Tweet or Facebook Post that announces this episode along with your guess and reason(s)! Recent Appearances: Thomas was recently a guest on Det. Matthew Maxon's new podcast, ______, and Andrew was recently a guest on Episode #116 of the Gaytheist Manifesto. Go check 'em out! Show Notes & Links This is the text of 18 U.S.C. § 1512, the statute that governs witness tampering. And this is the text of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein's letter recommending the firing of Director Comey. In this episode, the guys tackle a recent Internet meme regarding convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez's suicide with help from NFL expert and friend of the show Chris Kristofco of the Titletown Sound podcast. First, though, Andrew tackles a question from listener Joel Forman who asks whether Andrew can help secure him a "letter of marque." What is a letter of marque and why does Joel want one? Listen and find out! In the main segment, the guys break down the law regarding Aaron Hernandez's suicide. Does it really vacate Hernandez's conviction for murder? Are the Patriots really on the hook for $6 million? Is it all a big conspiracy? We tell the hard truths. After that, Andrew answers a question from Hall of Fame patron R.J. Rautio about an obscure procedural quirk in the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch. Does this mean President Elizabeth Warren can kick Gorsuch off the Court in 2020?? Finally, we end with a brand new Thomas Takes the Bar Exam question #23 about a breach of contract lawsuit for stealing your personal information. Recent Appearances: Andrew was recently a guest on Episode #116 of the Gaytheist Manifesto. Go check it out! Show Notes & Links Check out Chris Kristofco's fabulous podcast, Titletown Sound. This is the hilarious (and serious!) article from the Federalist Society's web page on bringing back letters of marque. No, seriously: a real person wrote this, unironically. This is the case of U.S. v. Pogue, 19 F.3d 663 (D.C. Cir. 1994), the case Andrew discusses on the "abatement" rule during the main segment. And here is just one example of sports media claiming that abatement puts the Patriots back on the hook for Hernandez's salary. My guest for today is Conor Robinson, program director of Foundation Beyond Belief and director of the Humanist Service Corps. The Humanist Service Corps is an international secular humanist volunteering program that services communities throughout the world. It started as Foundation Beyond Belief-sponsored yearlong international service trip called the Pathfinders Project, and from that experience came the Humanist Service Corps. So today we’re going to learn about everything they do, plus a little bit about Conor himself.Links:•Humanist Service Corps: https://foundationbeyondbelief.org/humanistservicecorps/about •HSC on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/humanistsinaction/ •HSC on Twitter: https://twitter.com/HumanistService •My adventures at the town hall meeting: http://www.splicetoday.com/politics-and-media/we-re-not-alone-in-this-fight •I Doubt it with Dollemore: https://dollemore.com/ •The Gaytheist Manifesto: http://gaytheistmanifesto.secularmediagroup.com/ •ReasonCon 3: http://reasonnc.com/ •Freedom From Religion Foundation: https://ffrf.org/ •Godless Rebelution: https://godlessrebelution.podbean.com/ •The Podunk Polymath: https://thepodunkpolymath.com/ •The Biskeptical Podcast: http://www.spreaker.com/show/the-biskeptical-podcast•Dream Youth: http://dreamyouth.bandcamp.com •Asher Silberman: http://www.ashersilberman.com/ •My Twitter: http://twitter.com/tmamone •Bi Any Means on Twitter: http://twitter.com/bianymeanspod •Bi Any Means on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/bianymeanspodcast •The Bi Any Means/Biskeptical Podcast Fans Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/179617892470906/ •Email: bianymeanspodcast@gmail.com •Listener line: 410-690-3558 •My Patreon page: http://www.patreon.com/tmamone •Bi Any Means Blog: http://freethoughtblogs.com/bianymeans/

When Callie Wright came out as a trans woman in 2013, there weren't a lot of queer voices in the secular movement that focused on issues affecting queer people. She set out to change that. With her partner in crime Ari Stillman, she now runs The Gaytheist Manifesto podcast and the blog of the same name. She is also co-chair of the American Humanist Association's LGBTQ Humanist Alliance. Callie joins Jenn Wilson this week to talk about founding the podcast and its mission to support the LGBTQ community within the secular movement. They discuss Callie's outlook on activism, her goals for the LGBTQ Humanist Alliance, and even a recent controversy in LGBTQ media representation. After we hear from Callie and Jenn, we'll also give you a quick sample of the work Callie does educating humanists at conferences.
