A number of people, both skeptics and even some Christians doubt that the story of Jonah is true. Some doubt that there ever was a prophet named Jonah at all. Getting into this lesson, we read in the Book of Jonah that the prophet was swallowed by a great fish. Yet, skeptics point out that in Matthew's gospel, Jesus says that Jonah was swallowed by a whale. So, let's dive into the podcast as we join Micheal Lane in discussing this supposed contradiction! Scripture declares that we are all descendants of Adam and Eve. Numerous scientific studies from the 1990's to present have confirmed this as well. Even the National Geographic Society has shown documentation of all humans being the descendent of one man and one woman. This question has become a challenge to many skeptics demanding an answer for when talking with Creationists. Join Micheal in the E4F studio as we examine scripture and discuss genetics of the Bible! Over the last 2,000 years, critics have tried—and failed—to destroy Christianity. One of their claims is that the Gospel accounts of Jesus' resurrection contradict each other. But is that really the case? In this episode, we take a deeper look at who went to the tomb on that first Easter morning and why the differences in the Gospel narratives are not contradictions, but complementary portraits of the risen Christ. Through Scripture, logic, and a story from an old art class, we'll uncover the harmony within the fourfold Gospel and affirm the truth of the resurrection. After 11 studio albums, you might think a band is starting to get meh, but that is definitely not the case with Architects. Their latest offering, The Sky, The Earth & All Between, sees the band exploring their sound in a way that just works. Produced by former Bring Me The Horizon keyboardist and songwriter Jordan Fish, the sounds are all there. From the pummelling to the melodic, this band isn't showing any signs of slowing down. They're headlining festivals, they went on tour with Metallica, and if their latest single "Everything Ends" keeps going, they might have one of their biggest hits in the band's long history on their hands. Lead singer Sam Carter joined me from his home in London the day before the NFL Draft so we even get a little sports talk in on this conversation, and gardening too! Wormhole, activated. See Architects on tour in the U.S. this summer.

In this week's podcast, Michael Lane discusses the topic of genealogy in the Bible from the Florida Keys as he leads students on the 2025 Marine Biology trip! In Biblical times, genealogy was so important to show the lineage of families. To the Israelites it's still very important piece of their culture. Skeptics and critics will use these two genialities as evidence that the Bible cannot be trusted because they are different. Tune in and discover the reasoning why it's important that Jesus has two different genealogies.CREDITS: Developed & Hosted by Michael Lane. Produced & Edited by Isabel Kolste. Interview by Kris PetersBritish metalcore giants Architects have released their eagerly awaited new studio album The Sky, The Earth & All Between via Epitaph Records. This is the band's 11th studio album, with singles like Whiplash delivering an intense fusion of power and stadium-swaying melody, offering a tantalizing preview of the album, along with songs like Seeing Red and Curse, with those two tracks collectively amassing over 70 million streams to date.Since their last studio album in 2022 - the critically acclaimed The Classic Symptoms Of A Broken Spirit, Architects have continued their stratospheric rise, establishing themselves as one of the most important rock bands to emerge from the UK. They have spent the last 12 months touring extensively, most notably as one of the personally chosen support acts on the Metallica tour as well as appearances at Louder Than Life, AfterShock, Mayhem, Download and a headline slot at Bloodstock Festival. They have also just announced a handful of dates in support of Linkin Park next Summer.HEAVY had the pleasure of chatting with frontman Sam Carter and we start by asking how he is feeling about the reaction to The Sky, The Earth & All Between."Feeling pretty good," he smiled confidently. "It's an exciting time for us. I think eleven albums in we've had our fair share of these weeks leading into it (laughs) but we came back with a point to prove. If you're gonna release an album, it has to be good, but I think if you're on your eleventh album a lot of people have made their mind up about you too. So you have to come back swinging. You have to really show there is a real purpose behind the album being released. The effort and energy that went into it has been crazy, to be fair. We've really worked so hard on it. I'm so proud of it. I think it's one of our best albums - probably the best I would say. It's my favourite. I know everyone in a band probably says that when they're releasing their record, but I'm just so proud of it. Proud of the effort and energy we put into it and the reaction so far has been amazing."In the full interview, Sam talks more about what to expect from the album, how it serves as the beginning of a new era for Architects, the album opener Eulogy and why it was chosen to kickstart things, the meaning behind the title The Sky, The Earth & All Between, if it gets easier or harder to come up with new material the more music you write, his early days in the band and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

The Wilkes Center recently hosted its 3rd annual climate solutions hackathon at the end of January.  This year the focus was water resources. The “hackathon” as we've come to call it – borrowing the term from the computer coding world – is an intense problem-solving competition where we challenge U of U undergraduate and graduate students from any discipline to team-up and develop proposals in a slide deck within 24 hours. We asked students to propose an innovative, data-driven solution in one of five categories:Municipal Water SupplyInland and Coastal FloodingAgricultureDroughtWater and Energy InfrastructureUltimately, each team was graded on how we they addressed important factors, such as: Problem definition and analysis; Uniqueness and innovation;  Idea feasibility; and Implementation and scalability. Over 90 students participated in this year's water hackathon, with 17 impressive projects submitted by the end.  Only the top 3 teams were received awards.  And recently, I spoke with the team members of the winning team, whose members include: Sam Carter, Baylee Olds, Tyler Yoklavich -- each of them graduate students studying hydrology.  Their hackathon solution – titled “SmartFLOW City Program” formulated a program to connect municipal water managers with water researchers in academia.  Essentially, they envisioned a program to encourage cities to enhance their water-resilience tool box with various cutting edge techniques being developed by folks in academia.  Bridging on-the-ground management and emerging modern science.  So, here's my conversation with Team SmartFLOW.  I hope you enjoy it.

Silvana and Tegan watch Season 3 Episode 20 "Maternal Instinct" - an episode which is ironically extremely lacking in focus on women. It doesn't even pass the Bechdel test! The SGC get an unexpected visit from Bra'tac and a gravely injured Jaffa reporting that Apophis is back and attacking Chulak looking for the Harsesis child. Luckily Daniel has been keeping his promise to Sha're and looking for Kheb this whole time right? Wrong! We encounter Oma Desala for the first time but she only speaks and acts through a male monk on the planet. Sam Carter is sidelined and Silvana and Tegan rewrite the episode and Sam is now taking a vacation with her girlfriend, Janet Fraiser.  This episode could have been so much better if prior seasons had taken the direction of Teal'c and Shak'l forming a rebel alliance together. As it is, Bra'tac is the star of this episode, and Silvana and Tegan wish there had been more exploration of what Kheb means to elderly Jaffa and what's next for Bra'tac.
