The latest monthly report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed massive gains in March—the strongest in seven months—indicating that economic growth is gaining speed. Economist Austan Goolsbee explains why he’s optimistic, what kind of numbers we need to keep seeing to realize a full recovery, and how the report proves that even though some think high unemployment insurance payments will disincentivize people from returning to work, a lack of jobs is actually what’s driving unemployment rates.   Austan Goolsbee is the Robert P. Gwinn Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He previously served as the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers and a member of President Obama’s Cabinet.   Twitter: @Austan_Goolsbee Show us some love by leaving a rating or a review! This weekend, the Senate passed the coronavirus relief bill—and the House is scheduled to debate the bill, and widely expected to pass it, on the day this episode is published (Tuesday, March 9th). While the Senate debated what would be the largest disaster-relief legislation in American history, moderate Democrats and ultra-conservative Republicans alike repeated one common criticism—that infusing so much money into the economy would cause inflation. Austan Goolsbee, past Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, explains why those fears are misplaced in this episode that will answer every question you’ve ever had about inflation, stimulus checks, and disaster relief.  Austan Goolsbee is the Robert P. Gwinn Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He previously served in Washington as the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers and a member of President Obama’s Cabinet.   Twitter: @Austan_Goolsbee Show us some love by leaving a rating or a review! Austan Goolsbee is former Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers for President Obama and led the Economic Recovery Advisory Board after the 2008 financial crisis. In this interview, he talks about how he first got involved advising Obama’s Senate campaign in 2004 as a fellow UChicago professor, the critical decision-making moments to save the economy from recession, his reasons of endorsing Pete Buttigieg for President, the efficacy of UBI in an AI economy, and his potential prospects as a stand-up comedian… Prof. Goolsbee is currently the Robert P. Gwinn Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business. His research has earned him recognition as a Fulbright Scholar and an Alfred P. Sloan fellow. In prior years he was named one of the 100 Global Leaders for Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum, and one of the six "Gurus of the Future" by the Financial Times. His ability to explain economics clearly has made Goolsbee popular in the media. Jon Stewart describes him as "Eliot Ness meets Milton Friedman,” and he has twice been named as a "star" professor by BusinessWeek's "Guide to the Best Business Schools." But perhaps just as importantly, some of the other distinguished titles he’s received include “Salon.com’s one the 15 Sexiest Men of 2010,” “the funniest celebrity in Washington,” etc. WSJ once described him as a “stand-up economist,” and his charisma and thoughtfulness have truly shined through in this podcast interview as he banters with Arjun & Tiger about his career and economic insights. Prof. Goolsbee now serves on the Economic Advisory Panel to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and has previously served on the Panel of Economic Advisors to the Congressional Budget Office, the U.S. Census Advisory Commission and as a special consultant for Internet Policy to the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice. He joined Chicago Booth in 1995.

Let’s address the ELEPHANT in the room! The response to part 1 of this mini-series where I interviewed Donald Trump’s former advisor Stephen Moore was HUGE!!! We held NOTHING back as we challenged one another to find the TRUTH. Now, I am incredibly excited to share with you PART 2, The Liberal Perspective with Former President Barack Obama's economic advisor, Austan Goolsbee! This mini-series is all about THE FACTS and the HARD TRUTHS that often get skewed and filtered by biased media stations and one-sided conversations. It’s our civic duty to VOTE but we must first be well-informed before we can do so with clarity and confidence. That’s EXACTLY why I created this mini-series… because you DESERVE the unfiltered truths straight from the mouths of the ones closest to the action! Austan Goolsbee formerly served as the Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers and was a member of the cabinet of President Barack Obama. This great American economist is currently the Robert P. Gwinn Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. As I warned you in part 1, we don’t agree with each other on everything... but I'm holding NOTHING back as we challenge one another to find the TRUTH. MY JOB IN BOTH INTERVIEWS IS TO ASK HARD QUESTIONS! I’M NOT POLITICAL. I HAVE NO AGENDA. I encourage you to keep your blinders off so that you can hear out BOTH sides to make an optimal decision. In this interview, the facts and truths uncovered from part 1 will be challenged, dissected and new truths and facts uncovered. We talk about everything from the economy and the realities of a looming recession to Obamacare, medicare, and how those are shaping the future of our country. Austan even shares his disappointment of missed opportunities during Obama’s presidential term. Also, what was it like to be w the President on a historic evening he was elected. I share these with you guys NOT because I have an agenda, but because I genuinely care about you, your families and this country. I learned so much in both of these interviews and I want YOU to be fully equipped so that you can VOTE based on the FACTS and make the BEST decision not just for you, but for your family and for the United States.
