Donate (no account necessary) | Subscribe (account required) Join Bryan Dean Wright, former CIA Operations Officer, as he dives into today's top stories shaping America and the world. In this Friday Headline Brief of The Wright Report, Bryan covers China's interference in the New York City mayoral race, the stalled government funding battle in Washington, new data showing a resilient U.S. economy, dangerous foreign truck drivers on American roads, and spy games unfolding in Silicon Valley.   China Meddles in the NYC Mayoral Race: The Chinese Communist Party is boosting socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani on TikTok while suppressing content from rival Andrew Cuomo. Bryan calls it “bonkers” that America still allows a Chinese propaganda platform to shape its elections and urges Congress to shut it down immediately.   Democrats Block Government Funding Again: The Senate has now voted twelve times to reopen the government, and twelve times Democrats have said no — rejecting a bill to pay essential workers unless new health subsidies are included. Bryan says, “They're holding America's workers hostage for political gain.”   U.S. Economy Beats Expectations: Manufacturing activity rose for the fourth straight month, and Trump's tariffs show no inflationary impact. Mortgage rates dropped to 6.19%, their lowest of the year, while consumer spending remains strong among wealthier households. Bryan warns, however, that working-class families are still struggling under high costs.   Chinese Knockoff Airbags Kill Americans: At least six people have died after counterfeit Chinese airbags exploded during crashes, sending shrapnel through vehicles. The NHTSA is investigating, with cases tied to used Chevys and Hyundais.   Foreign Trucker Crisis Deepens: Indian nationals driving illegally in the U.S. are causing deadly crashes after repeatedly failing licensing tests. Bryan reports on one driver who failed ten times but still obtained a CDL through a corrupt Washington State program.   Silicon Valley Honeypot Spies: China and Russia are planting operatives — often young women — inside Bay Area tech firms to steal AI and defense secrets through seduction and marriage. Bryan shares a chilling real-life CIA story illustrating the tactic's human toll.   AI and the Power Problem: OpenAI's massive Texas data center will now run on its own natural gas plant, while the White House expands geothermal energy projects across the West. Bryan calls it “good news for your electric bill — and bad news for America's enemies.”   Good News for U.S. Workers: Provalus, a call center company, is bringing jobs back from India to rural America, paying $40,000 salaries for customer service roles. Bryan says, “It's proof that good business and good patriotism can live in the same company.”   Medical News — Social Media and the Brain: New research shows teens who spend more time on social media score lower in reading and memory tests, suggesting digital overstimulation harms brain development.   "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - John 8:32   Keywords: TikTok China interference NYC mayor race, Zohran Mamdani Andrew Cuomo, Senate Democrats block funding bill, Trump tariffs manufacturing growth, U.S. mortgage rates 6.19, Chinese counterfeit airbags NHTSA, illegal Indian truck drivers Washington State CDL, Silicon Valley honeypot spies China Russia, OpenAI Stargate Texas natural gas, geothermal energy leases Nevada Idaho, Provalus rural call centers jobs, social media brain research teenagers

Welcome to this week's Money Matters Show, where the team tackles a volatile week following record market highs. After a strong run to new all-time levels, stocks pulled back sharply as investors weighed whether it's time to take profits or stay the course. Tensions with China took center stage after new restrictions on rare earth exports sparked worries across tech and manufacturing sectors. President Trump's tariff threats added fuel to the fire, shaking markets and raising questions about how trade policy could impact growth heading into year-end. The team unpacks what's driving this volatility—from shifting global dynamics to evolving expectations around interest rates and earnings—and highlights how these forces are influencing key sectors like energy, technology, and industrials. Wrapping up, they share timely insight on navigating corrections, managing risk, and maintaining perspective when markets pull back from highs.

Want to grow your business? Download your free roadmap today: coltivar.com/growth Major moves and market momentum in this week's top financial stories, including: Jobless Claims Signal Cracks in the Labor Market Fed Holds Back on Rate Cuts at Jackson Hole Blackstone Bets on Power Infrastructure Walmart Walks the Tariff Tightrope Housing Market Gives Buyers New Leverage Corporate Hiring Plans Cool FinWeekly has the latest updates on market-shaping headlines and business strategy insights: Jobless claims rose to 235,000 last week, the biggest jump in three months, while continuing claims hit their highest level since 2021. With hiring slowing and tariffs adding pressure, the labor market is starting to show real cracks — and consumers are beginning to feel it. At Jackson Hole, Fed officials struck a cautious tone. Kansas City's Jeffrey Schmid questioned whether current rates are even restrictive enough, signaling that cuts aren't coming until the Fed sees “very definitive data.” For households and businesses, that means borrowing costs are likely to stay higher for longer. Private equity powerhouse Blackstone agreed to buy Shermco, an electrical services firm, for $1.6 billion. It's a bet on the infrastructure behind AI and data centers — a reminder that the real money in tech often lies in the backbone, not the buzz. Walmart delivered strong sales growth but warned of rising costs as tariffs weigh on margins. By absorbing price hikes, it's keeping shoppers across income levels loyal — a case study in how scale and cost discipline drive share gains in a squeezed economy. Housing offered a rare surprise: existing-home sales rose 2% in July as prices cooled and mortgage rates dipped. Buyers are regaining leverage, with more listings, price cuts, and longer days on market opening the door to negotiations. And across corporate America, hiring plans are cooling fast. One in five employers expects to slow headcount growth, with AI and cost discipline reshaping how companies think about labor. For workers, that means fewer openings and longer job searches — and for leaders, a push to do more with less. Tune in for smart commentary, sharp context, and the financial insight you need to lead in a changing world — only on FinWeekly.LinkedIn | YouTube coltivar.com/byfiq

Originally loaded July 23rd, reloaded July 25th. Chris Holman welcomes Ed Duggan, Duggan for Governor Campaign Manager, Detroit, MI. Additionally fresh news from the morning of recording, July 17th, was that Mayor Duggan had picked up the endorsement of the Detroit Regional Chamber's PAC. The Detroit Regional Chamber Political Action Committee (PAC) has announced its endorsement of Mike Duggan for the 2026 Michigan gubernatorial election. With a quorum of PAC members present, the decision to endorse Duggan was unanimous. Duggan, who is running in one of the nation's most high-profile independent runs for office, has a proven track record of executive-level business experience prior to his time as mayor, as the leader who successfully transformed the then-challenged Detroit Medical Center, while he also served on the Detroit Regional Chamber Board of Directors. “The Chamber and businesses across the state are growing increasingly concerned about the inability of our political parties to find common ground and move Michigan forward,” said Chamber President and Chief Executive Officer, Sandy K. Baruah. “Throughout his business and government career, Mike Duggan has proven he can bring people together to work toward common goals. Voters across Michigan are tired of the political infighting; they are clamoring for results-driven leadership, which is exactly what Mike has brought to every leadership position he's held.” Under Duggan's effective leadership, Detroit has experienced remarkable revitalization and has become a national model for urban turnaround. His focus on fiscal stability, economic development, and efficient, civil, and inclusive government has created a more favorable environment for businesses to invest in and for residents to thrive. For the first time in decades, Detroit's population is growing, thanks to Duggan's leadership, which is the metric he asked voters to hold him accountable to when he was first elected. “Mayor Duggan's tenure in Detroit has been a case study in effective, consistent leadership,” said Honigman Chairman and Chief Executive Officer David Foltyn, Chairman of the Chamber PAC. “He has demonstrated a unique ability to bring stakeholders together to solve generational challenges. The business community has full confidence that he will bring that same steady hand and relentless focus on results to Lansing, creating the stable, pro-growth environment Michigan needs to compete on a global scale.” The Chamber PAC was the first business organization to endorse Duggan during his write-in campaign for Detroit Mayor in 2013 and supported him in his two successful runs for re-election. PAC members are confident that Duggan will apply the same data-driven, results-oriented leadership that was successful in Detroit to the entire state. His leadership will be instrumental in fostering a more competitive business climate, strengthening infrastructure, improving educational outcomes, and building a more prosperous future for all Michiganders. The race to follow Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is populated by many good and long-time friends of the Chamber. In a calmer political and public environment, the Chamber PAC would likely have delayed this announcement and selected between a strong Democrat or Republican. Today's times demand leadership organizations, like the Detroit Regional Chamber, step outside conventional thinking and think boldly about how best to propel Michigan toward its real potential. The Chamber takes pride in its reputation as a bipartisan business organization, and the decision made by the Chamber PAC is a testament to that. » Visit MBN website: www.michiganbusinessnetwork.com/ » Subscribe to MBN's YouTube: www.youtube.com/@MichiganbusinessnetworkMBN » Like MBN: www.facebook.com/mibiznetwork » Follow MBN: twitter.com/MIBizNetwork/ » MBN Instagram: www.instagram.com/mibiznetwork/

With consumer prices also running hot, inflation may be reaccelerating just as the Fed prepares to cut rates. Businesses are already feeling the squeeze and may pass higher costs to consumers, setting up a tricky fall for policymakers.Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is urging the Fed to move faster, calling for a half-point cut in September and 150 basis points total over the coming months. That's well below market expectations and adds even more weight to Powell's August 22 Jackson Hole speech. In the restaurant world, Cava, Sweetgreen, and Chipotle all posted disappointing Q2 results as lunch traffic cooled and budget-conscious customers pulled back. It's a reminder that even cult-favorite brands aren't immune to a consumer slowdown.Meanwhile, Southwest Airlines is ending its decades-old open seating policy, trading boarding speed and customer loyalty for assigned-seat upsells, a shift that could erode one of its core strategic advantages.Amazon is pushing deeper into grocery with same-day fresh delivery in 1,000 cities this year and 2,300 by the end of 2025, a direct challenge to an industry built on razor-thin margins. And in retail, Ulta Beauty and Target will end their shop-in-shop partnership by August 2026, with Ulta focusing on standalone growth and Target looking to fill the beauty gap through private-label and new brand partnerships.Tune in for strategic insight, smart commentary, and the financial context you need to lead in a changing world — only on FinWeekly._______________________________________Disclaimer:BYFIQ, LLC is a wholly owned entity of Coltivar Group, LLC. Alligator Alcatraz and ICE Raids Spark National Debate Polling shows over 60% of Americans support deportations, including a growing number of Hispanic voters. At Florida's “Alligator Alcatraz” detention center, migrants complain about conditions, while LA officials criticize ongoing ICE raids. Meanwhile, left-wing attacks on ICE officers escalate, and Democrat senators propose unmasking agents. President Trump slams the idea, calling it dangerous and un-American. Trump Offers Tariff Discounts to African Nations That Accept Deportees President Trump is using tariff policy to pressure countries to accept U.S. deportees. In a bid to ease deportation backlogs, he offers lower tariffs and increased investment to African nations like Gabon, Senegal, and Guinea-Bissau if they agree to resettle illegal migrants. Some leaders appear open, especially where economic incentives align with rare earth mineral access. Brazil Tariffs Escalate as Trump Responds to Free Speech Crackdown Trump imposes a 50% tariff on Brazilian goods in response to President Lula's treatment of former conservative leader Jair Bolsonaro. Brazil threatens retaliation, which could affect prices for key imports like coffee, beef, and rare earths. Bryan supports Trump's leverage strategy but cautions against alienating allies without diplomatic finesse. Tariffs Not Driving Inflation, But Price Pressures May Be Coming Despite fears, Axios reports that tariffs have not significantly raised consumer prices. Most U.S. companies are absorbing the costs or adapting supply chains. However, 77% say they may raise prices within six months. Bryan celebrates being right about his “Costco analogy” and urges listeners to watch corporate earnings next week for updates. Microsoft Lays Off Americans, Hires Foreign Workers, and Embraces AI Microsoft plans to lay off 15,000 U.S. workers while replacing them with AI and 14,000 foreign hires, mostly from China and India, via H-1B visas. Critics argue the program is abused to undercut American wages. Bryan warns of growing youth unemployment and calls for policy changes before AI and outsourcing further erode the U.S. labor market. Strong U.S. Economy Defies Expectations Inflation and job numbers come in better than forecast. Prices rose just 2.4 percent over the past year, and unemployment remains steady at 4.2 percent. Trump's Five Bucket Strategy appears to be paying off, with reshoring announcements from GM and new investments in American nuclear energy. Tariff Court Ruling and China Deal Reshape Trade Landscape A U.S. appeals court allows Trump's tariffs to stay in place through July 31, buying time for ongoing negotiations. A new U.S.-China deal sets tariffs at 55 percent for Chinese goods and 10 percent for American exports. China resumes rare earth shipments and regains student visa access, though FBI officials remain concerned about security risks. Leftist Riots in LA and AOC's Dismissive Response Riots continue in Los Angeles, though quieter for now. Trump ramps up ICE arrests. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez downplays the violence as “kids throwing rocks,” despite Molotov cocktails and injuries. GOP lawmakers and the DOJ are investigating who is funding the unrest. Trump Welcomes Legal Immigrants President Trump releases a new video message to naturalized citizens, offering encouragement and affirming they are “part of the American family.” His remarks come amid deportation efforts targeting illegal immigrants. Middle East Tensions Rise Over Iran and Qatar Jet Deal Qatar has not yet transferred the promised 747 to Trump for Air Force One. Meanwhile, U.S. embassies in the region prepare for possible Iranian missile strikes. Some military dependents and diplomats are being evacuated, as peace talks appear to be collapsing. Xi Jinping Launches Austerity Crackdown Ahead of Possible War China's president is disciplining party members for luxury spending as he prepares the nation for economic hardship and possible military conflict. U.S. intelligence agencies view the campaign as a signal of Beijing's war readiness.
