In this conversation, Ivan McKee discusses the performance of public services in Scotland, comparing them to England and addressing the need for improvement. He emphasises the importance of a long-term vision for Scotland's independence, highlighting the economic strengths and the necessity of effective public service delivery. The SNP MSP on his suspension, his clashes with the Greens, and bullying allegations. MSP for Inverness and Nairn and former Rural Economy cabinet secretary Fergus Ewing sits down with Podlitical to discuss his efforts fighting for fishermen and farmers, and being an "apprentice rebel at 66" when it comes to speaking out against his own party's plans - sometimes in a theatrical fashion. Ewing talks about the allegations by civil servants of bullying, denying his behaviour crossed a line, but claiming he wishes he could have "handled things slightly differently" in hindsight. An outspoken critic of the Scottish Greens and the Bute House Agreement, Ewing explains why he believes the Greens in Government are "extremists" and why things haven't been going "particularly well" for the SNP recently. For a range of political interviews, subscribe to Podlitical on BBC Sounds.

Special guest Jeane Freeman joins this episode. Jeane served as Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport from 2018 to 2021. She was SNP MSP for the Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley constituency from 2016 to 2021. Calum, Geoff and Andy question her on the relationship between the Greens and the SNP and whether The Bute House agreement is clear enough. Jeane also reflects on her days as Health Secretary during the Covid pandemic. She tells us about her biggest regret as Health Secretary as well as how she reflects on the pandemic and, crucially, what she believes does - and does not - need to be done to reform the NHS in Scotland. She also considers the tone of the political debate in Scotland, both in the SNP leadership contest and in wider politics, too. She wants the SNP to act like "grown-ups" and that it is no bad thing that there is disagreement within the party. She says it is "healthy and potentially constructive." I noticed that the only people I hadn't had on the show among the conveners and voting organisations were Elaine C. Smith (I've tried - can't seem to get in touch with her), AyeScotland, Christians For Independence and Pensioners for Independence.I then immediately tweeted out asking if any of those organisations would like to come on the show for a talk about independence. The first I managed to organise something with (and I'll be working on the others shortly) were Christians for Independence.I'm not a religious man myself so I thought it would be interesting to hear their perspective and, as the guest, Dave Thompson - former SNP MSP and convener of the group, pointed out in the show, over 400,000 people regularly attend churches in Scotland every week so is this a demographic the indy movement can afford to ignore? So here is the 161st episode of The Scottish Independence Podcast with Dave Thompson of Christians for independence...Hope you enjoy.LINKShttp://christiansforindependence.weebly.com/https://twitter.com/Christians4Indyhttp://michaelgreenwell.wordpress.com/https://twitter.com/mgreenwell
