On today's show, former A Public Affair host, Zoltán Grossman, is back behind the mic in conversation with political anthropologist, David Vine. They talk about the on-again-off-again war between the US and Iran, the proliferation of US military bases around the world, and the scale of the US military budget. Vine's scholarship shows how US military bases are the linchpin of the expansion of the US empire, creating the conditions for perpetual war. Gulf States have hosted US bases for decades, making them targets in the US war with Iran. US bases encircle the globe and more are planned for construction in the Philippines. Contrary to the claims that these bases protect US democracy, in reality, they ramp up geopolitical tensions and harm the local communities they impose on. With an erratic and dangerous president at home, Vine says that we need to start closing down these bases because they continue to operate as launch pads for unjust wars. Close the bases, bring the troops home, and build up diplomacy, says Vine. With the $100 billion the US spends on these bases, Vine says we could be funding universal healthcare and free college education. David Vine is a political anthropologist and author of a trilogy of books about war and peace, including The United States of War: A Global History of America's Endless Conflicts, from Columbus to the Islamic State, Base Nation: How U.S. Military Bases Abroad Harm America and the World, and Island of Shame: The Secret History of the U.S. Military Base on Diego Garcia. Vine was a professor of anthropology at American University in Washington, DC from 2006 to 2024. He recently co-authored the Project On Government Oversight report The True Total U.S. Military Budget. Vandalism explores the blurred line between destruction and expression, asking: when does art become vandalism, and who gets to decide? This episode unpacks how creativity can provoke, disrupt, and challenge what society labels as “good.” This conversation encourages us to reflect on the rules we inherit, the approval we seek, and the ways we limit ourselves based on what others might think. If art can question the status quo, maybe we can too. This episode is an invitation to examine what you're no longer willing to accept, what you're ready to stop asking permission for, and how to strengthen your “zero f's given” muscle in your own life.

A Nation Gathered, The Word Declared - Now May Those Who Hear also Be Doers of the WordIn a world filled with noise, division, and uncertainty, God has already given His people the weapons we need to stand strong—worship and His Word. Worship is more than a song; it is spiritual warfare that pushes back darkness and invites God to go before us. His Word is more than pages on paper; it is living, powerful, and a lamp that brings clarity to every uncertain path. When authentic worship meets a hunger for Scripture, hearts are awakened, lives are realigned, and hope is restored.Today, let us lean in with open hearts as we remember that the same God who moved in generations past is still speaking, still working, and still calling His people back to Himself.Click here for SHOW NOTES.Share this message with a friend and subscribe for weekly encouragement and inspiration!Visit AWordInSeasonPodcast.org for a free 30-Day Devotional, Show Notes, and to see previous guests.Learn more at: SomebodyCares.org and join us to support this ministry and disaster response efforts. You can also receive weekly Provoke-a-Thought emails, monthly teaching emails, periodic ministry updates, or join our prayer team by signing up here!FOLLOW US ON:Facebook: @SomebodyCaresAmericaYoutube: SomebodyCaresAmericaRumble: SomebodyCares orX: _SomebodyCares.Instagram: SomebodyCaresAmericaLinkedIn: Somebody Cares America

Hello to you listening wherever your feet touch the ground! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga. Today marks the 6th anniversary of Stories From Women Who Walk that launched (no fooling!) on April 1st 2020. As you may remember the first year I interviewed woman who were walking their lives when a conflict unexpectedly showed up causing them to make choices, accept consequences, change who they were into who they became. The conflict that caused me to pivot from my interviews to my singular 60 Seconds format was COVID; we were no longer commuting in cars listening to longer podcasts. Here we are 6 years, 1,300 episodes, and over 250,000 plays all over the world! Who made it possible? You did! Our global community. I'm still here because you're still there. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Going forward we still have work to do as Ordinary Persons gathering into a growing Army of Ordinary Persons to demand a better way of life for all of us. You can count on me to provide ongoing 60 Seconds episodes to support, encourage, inspire, delight, illuminate, provoke, and energize! You can expect resilience and resistance balanced with hope and stories to help us live each day trusting that our collective decency, goodness, and strength will birth something so much better than what we have right now. I welcome you and each of you on the journey! Write your stories, share them out loud, be well, do good work, and stay in touch! You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, bring your friends and rellies, and join us! You will have wonderful company as we continue to walk our lives together. AND! He went on a small-town Halloween ghost walk mostly for fun. He didn't expect to experience anything — and when the tour guide pointed out a specific “haunted” spot in an upstairs room, he stepped into it jokingly and dared whatever was there to show itself.Nothing happened.A few days later, while scrolling through pictures from that night, he noticed something standing unusually close beside him. It wasn't a clear figure. Not a person. Not a shadow cast behind him.Just something darker than the rest of the empty room. He can explain most of it as lighting. Flash. Angles. He just can't explain why it looks angled toward him. #RealGhostStories #GhostWalk #ParanormalPhoto #UnexplainedImage #SkepticStory #HauntedBuilding #PhotoEvidence #ParanormalOrLighting #UnseenPresence #TrueGhostStoryLove real ghost stories? Striking the right balance between disciplining our children and following the biblical command not to provoke them to anger can be a challenge. In episode seven of "Raising Godly Warriors," Duane Sheriff identifies ten practical ways to avoid provoking our children to anger—by being consistent, attentive, fair, and gentle, and by steering clear of neglect, harshness, humiliation, favoritism, and unreasonable discipline. These principles reflect God's character and the authority He gives to parents—not to tear children down, but to build them up. The Bible provides a clear plan, showing that parents have about twenty years to guide their children through three stages: training (ages 0–10, focused on obedience), teaching (ages 10–20, focused on honor), and transition (around age 20, when children move from parental authority to God's). God's heart for parenting is rooted in love—raising children who are Godly Warriors, equipped to fulfill their God-given destiny.

On the latest episode of the Politically Speaking Hour on St. Louis on the Air, STLPR's Jason Rosenbaum deconstructs an avalanche of Missouri redistricting news over the past week. He also spoke with state Rep. In an era of World War II revisionism, it's worth remembering what really led to Japan's surprise attack on Pearl Harbor 84 years ago on Dec. 7, 1941. Victor Davis Hanson breaks down the real context behind the attack, why Japan miscalculated so badly, the myths that still distort this history, and how Pearl Harbor became the beginning of Japan's greatest strategic blunder on today's episode of “Victor Davis Hanson: In a Few Words.” “Why did they attack? They said that they did not want to attack. They were in the process of negotiating a peace settlement. They said that we had cut off their oil exports. And we had because we had no other mechanism to convince them to get out of China, it was not their territory, to get out of Korea, to get out of Southeast Asia, and to not absorb the Dutch East Indies. “They had refused on all of those accounts and said, yet, we will find a peaceful solution, as they planned the attack. The attack happened at seven in the morning, deliberately, on a Sunday morning when people were either at church or still asleep from Saturday night partying. And they came out of the rising sun. Two waves. And they destroyed four battleships and injured, or just—I don't wanna say injured, they were inanimate objects. But they disabled four that sunk to the shallow bottom of Pearl Harbor.” (0:00) Pearl Harbor and Revisionism (0:14) Context Leading Up to Pearl Harbor (3:53) The Attack on Pearl Harbor (5:27) Aftermath and Misconceptions (7:38) Final Thoughts

Discipline is an essential part of parenting, but if done incorrectly, it can wound rather than train. In Part Four of Building Strong Families, Duane Sheriff teaches from Ephesians 6 about the biblical command not to provoke our children to wrath. Every parent faces moments of resistance and frustration, yet God's Word provides wisdom for disciplining with love instead of reacting in anger.By recognizing key attitudes like anger, inconsistency, neglect, and harshness, we can guard our children's hearts and prevent bitterness from taking root. True love sets boundaries with patience, consistency, and grace—always aiming for restoration, not control. Parenting is not about authority alone but about reflecting the Father's heart and preparing our children to live responsibly before Him. Through understanding, humility, and open communication, we can raise sons and daughters who are secure, respectful, and equipped to walk in God's ways.
