The first trade targets list of the season has dropped and that means it's officially time to start talking about what big moves we could see this year! Frank and Jason went through some of the more intriguing players on the board and which ones are more likely to move than others. Before they dug into that, they talked about the Nashville Predators and their continued struggles. Last night, they were assessed a minor penalty for not icing the proper starting lineup and wound up getting shutout by the Seattle Kraken. That led to the guys talking about the playoff picture in the West and which teams will find ways to stay in the conversation this year and who could fall out in the next few months. They then got into the trade talk and dug into Frank's list. They started with Joel Farabee who is on the board even though he has three more years on his current deal. Frank believes he has 35+ goal potential and he just needs to be put in the right situation. They also talked about Michael Matheson, who Gregor thinks is the most intriguing defenseman on the board. Is it smart for the Habs to move on from their best defenseman though? They also had a long conversation about Blue Jackets forward Mathieu Olivier. Gregor thinks he would be a great add for a contender but also thinks the Blue Jackets would be foolish to move him while Frank thinks they should cash in on his value. There was some significant injury news this week too as the Capitals are going to be without Alex Ovechkin for the next few weeks. The timing could not have been any worse as he was on an absolute heater. Frank gave an update on when he could come back today.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about some award long-shots and the Predators playoff chances. They wrapped with some talk about the Toronto Maple Leafs and the run they've been on despite their injuries. They also gave their thoughts on the Jim Montgomery firing in Boston.1:05 - Predators struggles continue10:45 - Joel Farabee's availability16:40 - Could the Habs trade Mike Matheson?22:00 - CBJ & Mathieu Olivier32:10 - Ovechkin's injury33:35 - Fill in the Blank44:40 - Montgomery firingWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? How are politicians promoting their message, and what happens when narratives go rogue? This week saw tensions over Labour MP Diane Abbott's place in the party following her return from suspension, manoeuvring in Holyrood over the vote to sanction former SNP health secretary Michael Matheson, and Tories talking taxation. As the general election campaigning continues, the team discuss how politicians and their parties try and broadcast a clear message to voters, and how they can control - or lose control of - the narrative as unexpected events happen.
A general election has been called for the 4th of July. We discuss the strategic decisions and execution of the announcement. There are questions about the rationale behind the chosen date and the decision to hold the event outside in the rain. We also discuss the potential impact on the Conservative Party and the Scottish Tories in particular. The conversation then shifts to the SNP and the suspension of Michael Matheson for breaching the MSP Code of Conduct. The hosts debate the political implications of John Swinney's decision to back Matheson and the timing of the announcement. Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/holyroodsources. In the latest and biggest U-turn in a series of policy reversals Sir Keir Starmer ditched the £28 billion spending target central to Labour's Green Prosperity Plan. Why and why now?To add to his woes as further revelations appeared on, Azhar Ali, Labour's candidate in the Rochdale by-election, there was a volte face and Ali was deselected. He remains on the ballot as the decision was made too late to remove him.We again ask. Why? Why now?As accusations of antisemitism are thrown around between and across political parties and individuals has the distinction between anti Jewish racism and anti Zionism been forever blurred? Michael Matheson's resignation over the iPad data bill has led to a Cabinet reshuffle. Who's in? Who's out? What makes a "good" minister?Professor Jim Gallagher was given a platform on Good Morning Scotland to outline Our Scottish Futures plans on reforming Scottish local government. He argued that Scotland was an over centralized country. His solution seemed to be bigger local authorities. At the time of recording we could find no trace of the report on their website. However "Rewiring Scotland" has now appeared. We shall, no doubt, return to examine it in greater depth next week.A stooshie has broken out over the re-opening of the Redcoat cafe in Edinburgh Castle. Michael Matheson resigns as Scottish Health Secretary ahead of a report on his iPad bill. Late last year, it was revealed that the then-Health Secretary Matheson had racked up a £11k roaming bill on his parliamentary iPad, subsequently admitting that his sons had used the iPad as a data hotspot so they could watch football. The team react to the news and the Scottish government cabinet reshuffle, discussing why the resignation has come now, and if it will have the stated intended effect of avoiding the bill becoming a distraction - as this week saw difficulties for both the Conservatives in relation to Rishi Sunak's poorly received trans jibe to Labour's Starmer in PMQs, and Labour facing backlash over plans to scrap it's £28bn a year green pledge.

Some weeks there are so many issues to get through but we try our best in this episode. The Covid Inquiry continues to throw a hard light on the incompetence and down right corruption of the UK government during the pandemic. We look at the latest revelations and testimonies from amongst others Sadiq Khan and Andy Burnham. We also question the almost universal ignoring of the inquiry by the Scottish media. This is in stark contrast to the obsession with Michael Matheson's laptop, which spilled over into the last FM's Questions to the exclusion of any debate on the closure of Grangemouth. The media frenzy around this will pale into insignificance when the Alex Salmond case for "misfeasance in public office" comes to court with the potential for star witnesses like Nicola Sturgeon. Why has he decided to bring the case now?Immigration is at the centre of European politics right now.The "secret" Sunak/Braverman agreement. The success of Geert Wilders in the Netherlands and the Dublin far right riots. We examine each of these in turn but also consider the impact of the rise of ant-immigrant, far right, parties on the future shape and policies of the EU.The truce between Hamas and Israel has been extended by a further two days. But what does the future hold for the people of Gaza? ★ Support this podcast ★

Allain Roy joins Scott Burnside and Mike McKenna on the finale of The Suitcase and The Scribe live from the Kelowna airport. Roy is wrapping up his agency camps in the beautiful Okanogan town after starting in New Brunswick earlier in the summer. Roy first spoke about the market this season and its uniqueness. He then discussed the most recent deal with Jonas Siegenthaler in New Jersey. Siegenthaler isn't the only player Roy works with on the Devils. He spoke about his other client Nico Hischier and how his new deal in New Jersey came about. After the interview, Mike and Scott dove into what's been happening around the NHL and what hasn't been happening. The New York Islanders have done nothing so far this summer. Mike gives a prediction on what could still happen on Long Island. On the flip side, they spoke about the sneaky good summer the Pittsburgh Penguins have had. Not only did they bring back Kris Letang and Geno Malkin, but they found a way to move Michael Matheson's contract and Jon Marino to bring in Jeff Petry and Ty Smith. Scott and Mike discussed the situation with Hockey Canada to close the show. Scott has some great work over on DailyFaceoff.com about everything happening. Michael Miller is "the smartest guest we have ever had" (Joe). He is the producer of the film The Poverty Cure, (povertycure.org), Director / Producer of Poverty, Inc. Senior Research Fellow, Acton Institute. In this episode we tackle the difficult questions surrounding poverty and how the solutions may be found in commerse rather than simply charity. Big Ideas and Quotes:4:12 We ask the wrong question, "why is there poverty, but the real question is why is there wealth?"Ways we think about povertyWe tend to treat poor people like objects... instead of treating poor people like subjects. "we are not subjects to be manipulated, we are subjects to be respected"We've replaced charity with humanitarianism. "Love is not just a feeling that we feel, love is the intentional willing of the good of the other person". "Humanitariansim doesn't thing so much about the human flourishing of the person, it provides comfort"12:05 "When we operate from a bad model, we do activities that actually harm the poor and disrespect the poor instead of partnering with the poor and treating them as we would want to be treated."
The guys are back after another week of rumours and more. However, there is very little actual news to talk about at the time of recording. They have a trade that it wasn't clear if it went through or not. That would be Patrick Hornqvist being dealt for Michael Matheson. Now, when they recorded, it was being reported a one for one, not with anything added. Still, they discuss what it means for the two teams involved. Next, they take a look at the NHL Award winners and give their take on whether it made sense. Overall, the guys felt that this season had much better overall voting than in years past. With a few exceptions of course. They also dig into the merits of different tactics for voting and why more opinions is a good thing. Finally, they take a look at some pending NHL Free Agents. Taking each name and placing them with a team they most want to see them be with. What a fit might look like in terms of both on-ice, but also how the salary cap might fit in. Tune in for all of this and more, with the MnM Hockey Podcast!

Michael Matheson Miller - Poverty Cure Bishop W. C. Martin - "Small Town, Big Miracle"
Will Mikko Rantanen meet high expectations in year one? Has Radko Gudas metamorphosed into an offensive force? Can the league's best five-on-five goal-scoring team continue being that after losing their best player to injury? Is there a chance for the newly-signed Hampus Lindholm to actually do anything on a crowded Anaheim blueline? How are Talbot, Dubnyk, and Rask doing so well? Is it time to rename the Habs' powerplay after one of its featured players? Hanifin or Matheson or Severson? And what about Carlson and the other slumping superstars in Washington? And Nashville!? The answers to those questions, along with news and analysis on your latest NHL injuries, outjuries, line changes, hot streaks, cold streaks and miscellany in another jam-packed episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast. Cross your heart and say your prayers, it's another cuss-free episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast! This week, Elan and Brian are feeling just peachy about the healthy returns of an apparent #1 goalie and a top line winger in Detroit, the apparently brief return of the Ducks' #1 goalie, and the hopefully fruitful return of a top line Canadien. But doggone it, even more players are off to the infirmary this week. The guys talk about the lineup and fantasy implications of injuries to a Metro starting goalie who was probably in need of rest anyway, a laundry list of Penguins, a struggling Panthers blueliner, a couple key pieces of Ottawa's top six, and a few key pieces of Tampa Bay's top nine. Bless the players whose production we can be thankful for, including a non-squeaky wheel in Philadelphia, several nondescript forwards in Carolina, a promoted hitter in Washington, a pair of persisting depth scorers in Columbus, and one of this year's stealthier breakouts. And, of course, we trust the hockey gods will shepherd back those players who may have lost their way, including a number one goalie not living up to his elite billing, and a King who is struggling far more than we'd anticipated. Players discussed on this episode include Jimmy Howard, Petr Mrazek, Gustav Nyquist, Henrik Zetterberg, James Reimer, Steve Mason, Sami Vatanen, Patrik Eaves, Ryan Getzlaf, John Gibson, Jonathan Bernier, Jhonas Enroth, Rickard Rakell, Alex Radulov, Henrik Lundqvist, Antti Raanta, Magnus Hellberg, Jake Guentzel, Connor Sheary, Patric Hornqvist, Carl Hagelin, Aaron Ekblad, Michael Matheson, Jason Demers, Jaromir Jagr, Jonathan Marchessault, Thomas Vanek, Jussi Jokinen, Reilly Smith, Kyle Turris, J.G.
