Despite Beacon Hill being quiet, a number of ballot questions have cleared the first hurdle towards getting onto the Massachusetts ballot.
On this week's episode of the Politically Speaking Hour on St. Louis on the Air, STLPR's Jason Rosenbaum takes a closer look at why Missouri Republicans keep going after voter-approved ballot initiatives. Rosenbaum talks with GOP political consultant David Barklage about the potential for consequences in 2026 for Missouri Republicans, particularly with a potential ballot item that would make it much more difficult to overturn voter-approved initiatives. And Rosenbaum also talks with STLPR's Sarah Kellogg about the potential for a constitutional amendment protecting paid sick leave for workers. Rosenbaum also talks with Democratic Sen. Patty Lewis of Kansas City about a potential redistricting special session.
There have been “very, very few signs of a military coup or a revolution in South Africa” , says Elections Analyst Wayne Sussman in his latest interview on BizNews. He was reacting to a coup being one of the key threats listed in the National Security Strategy report for 2024 - 2028. “I can't think of an actor in our Defense Force who'd be positioned to be able to lead a coup,” he says. However, Sussman agrees that some of the other key threats identified are real challenges. He says the assassinations of key figures in the lead-up to elections “means that we won't attract good people into politics, won't attract good people to stick their heads up and get involved with business leaders or civil society leaders”. He agrees that sabotage too is a big threat that has “metastasised through the mafias we see over the country, blocking economic growth, blocking infrastructure spend, blocking service delivery”. Sussman further gives an in-depth analysis of the latest by-election results and previews upcoming by-elections that could set the tone for the 2026 municipal elections.
During our Saturday Mornings Sit-Down conversation Violet Lim, CEO & Chief Cupid of "Lunch Actually," talks with host Glenn van Zutphen and co-host Neil Humphreys about her Annual Dating Survey and a striking shift in dating attitudes. Violet Lim, CEO & Chief Cupid of Lunch Actually, breaks down their latest Annual Dating Survey with an interesting statistic: 80% of Singaporean men are open to dating someone with opposing political views, but only 64% of women feel the same—a dramatic drop among women from 78% just five years ago. Violet takes us through the cultural currents behind the data, comparing trends across Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong, and dishes on how you can navigate tricky conversations without ruining the romance. From dealbreakers to dialogue tips, we explore how political beliefs are quietly reshaping the dating playbook across Asia. Whether you're swiping left, searching for “the one,” or happily coupled, this episode is packed with insights that hit close to the heart—and maybe the ballot box.

As we start to prepare for the midterm elections in 2026 many are tempted to throw their hands up and say, “Why should I vote? My voice doesn't count for anything!” Many Christians and non-Christians espouse that voting is a waste of time and energy. However, for the believer we need to ask, “Is God please when we are faithful citizens? The Bible is filled with wisdom for living including in the are of voting. Dr. Woods shares some very important biblical principles on how we should fulfill our roles as citizens. He reminds us we are called to be salt and light in our sphere of influence. This book details how we choose prospective candidates as well as what should determine that vote. Woods shares the principles related to the climate, foreign affairs, economics, societal norms, and government. He speaks not only as a pastor, theologian, professor and seminary president but as a lawyer, The goal for all citizens is to apply wisdom to your vote! You can purchase the book Amazon: Amazon.com: The Bible and Your Vote: Equipping the American Christian to Stand for Righteousness at the Ballot Box: 9798991297004: Woods, Dr. Andy: BooksOr at Dr. Woods ministry page: Andy Woods Ministries - BooksWe, Scott and Gabe, need to know if you guys like the content. Participating in elections is just one part of civic engagement. The many other ways of influencing your community and public policy are arguably the greatest difference to rebuilding trust.
With Peter Gelderloos and Vicky Osterweil. Whether it is in the fight against police violence, ecological destruction, or any other manifestation of patriarchal white supremacy, time and again, the hard-earned lessons of past struggles seem to get forgotten. Our social movements are capable of generating significant momentum, moments of far-reaching revolt, but we suffer from a kind of amnesia - an inability to pass on lessons learned from one generation to the next. And so each new wave of activism starts from scratch, disconnected from the strategies, successes, and failures of those that came before. In this episode, we discuss the strategic imposition of nonviolence and other pacification techniques used by the state. We talk about revolutionary imagination, mutual aid, and what gets left out of official histories of struggle, from the Civil Rights era to the George Floyd uprisings. We discuss the need to make space for both joy and grief in our movements, and the importance of physical place to building collective memory. --- Peter Gelderloos is a writer and social movement participant. He is the author of They Will Beat the Memory Out of Us: Forcing Nonviolence on Forgetful Movements, The Solutions are Already Here: Strategies for Ecological Revolution from Below, How Nonviolence Protects the State, Anarchy Works, The Failure of Non-Violence, and Worshiping Power: An Anarchist View of Early State Formation. Vicky Osterweil is a writer, worker and agitator based in Philadelphia. She is the author of In Defense of Looting: A Riotous History of Uncivil Action (Bold Type Books) and an upcoming book about Intellectual Property and the corporate domination of culture, The Extended Universe, which is due to be published by Haymarket in 2025.

The Portland area found itself in the national spotlight this week for a not particularly flattering reason: Repeated arson attacks on ballot boxes. We’ll be going over what we know about those attacks, but first we’re going to take a close look at the many races this year for a spot in Portland City Hall. A massive governance shift approved by voters two years ago has upended how campaigning for city council and mayor works – with some pretty interesting results.
