A federal union's lawsuit against the Trump administration's deferred resignation program is resurfacing. That's after at least seven agencies have renewed their “fork in the road” offers to federal employees, ahead of reductions in force. In response, the American Federation of Government Employees has amended its initial complaint. The union argues that the deferred resignation offer is unlawful, and that the administration needs to issue regulations for the program before proceeding. A federal judge previously blocked AFGE's initial complaint, saying that the union first needed to go to the Federal Labor Relations Authority over the matter. Learn more about your ad choices. More details have emerged on the Department of Defense's Deferred Resignation Program. According to a new memo, the DOD will offer the program to eligible DOD civilian employees for a week between April 7 and 14. Voluntary early retirement authority will also be offered. The initiatives, ordered by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, come as the Pentagon is looking to reduce its reduce civilian workforce and implement the Trump administration's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) efforts. Jules Hurst III, acting undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness, wrote in an April 1 memo that the DRP provides a “generous opportunity for employees to enter a paid leave status for several months, prior to resigning or retiring,” adding that employees pending approval or approved for the program will not be subject to return to in-person work requirements. A bipartisan bill that would establish a nonprofit foundation aimed at boosting private-sector partnerships at the National Institute of Standards and Technology was reintroduced in the House and the Senate on Tuesday. The Expanding Partnerships for Innovation and Competitiveness (EPIC) Act would create a Foundation for Standards and Metrology at the Department of Commerce, which would be focused on fostering collaborations with academia, industry, and other organizations. That new foundation would ultimately help supplement NIST's funding and — according to a release shared with FedScoop in advance of the Wednesday announcement — make the path to commercializing technologies developed by the agency easier. For the Glory KC is back with the 125th episode of the show!We were all set to talk about another Sporting Kansas City loss when Sunday the KC Cauldron and South Stand "demanded" Peter Vermes resigns his jobs. We started there and then moved into discussing another loss.In terms of the cries for Vermes' resignation, Sheena and I get into whether we actually think this will happen and the case to be made for and against him leaving. It's also worth remembering, he's just entering this second year of a five-year extension. That contract continues to age poorly, which feels like yet another indictment of ownership.Turning our attention to the game, despite a losing effort, Sporting KC actually showed some promise against FC Dallas. There were significant changes to the lineup that paid off immediately with another Daniel Salloi goal. He's scoring 0.71 goals per 90 after only scoring 0.13/90 in 2024. Another spark may have come from the first start of Jake Davis in the midfield. We also learn Davis' unique middle name during this week's podcast. Finally, the KC Current rescue the soccer weekend yet again with a great performance back home against the Utah Royals. 32. Women, Work & the Pandemic: 5 Years Later, Have We Made Progress? It's been 5 years since the COVID lockdown. Here's how the pandemic reshaped careers, caregiving, and what's next for women in the workplace. In March 2020, the world changed overnight. Many of our kids left for Spring Break, never to return to school in person until the 2021-22 school year. For millions of women, the pandemic wasn't just a global crisis, it was a career crisis. Between job losses, caregiving responsibilities, and impossible choices, many were forced to make life-altering decisions. Now, five years later, where do we stand? In this special re-release, we revisit one of our most powerful episodes: Karen Browning's pandemic resignation letter. In the summer of 2021, Karen courageously put into words what so many women experienced at the height of the pandemic—being pushed to the brink and left without the support they needed to stay in the workforce.Browning wrote her resignation letter not just as a farewell but as a mic drop moment—a wake-up call for employers and a message of solidarity for women facing the same impossible choices. As we mark five years since lockdown, Karen's story is more relevant than ever. Here are 3 Key Takeaways from this episode: ✔ What Karen's resignation letter reveals about workplace culture, flexibility, and the support systems that failed women during the pandemic—and how many still feel the impact today. ✔ How to advocate for yourself in today's workforce—whether you're returning, pivoting, or demanding better from your employer. ✔ What's changed in the workplace (and what still needs to change) since 2020. Why This Episode Matters in 2025We often push through difficult times without fully processing their impact. Five years later, you have the opportunity to reflect—not just on the struggles you've faced, but on the lessons you can carry forward. Karen's story is a reminder that advocating for yourself isn't selfish—it's necessary. Whether you left a job, changed careers, or are still searching for work-life compatibility, this conversation will inspire you to take control of your future.Resources Mentioned In This Episode:
