Steven Schultz from Momentum chose Goldfields as his stock pick of the day. "My stock pick this evening is Goldfields, at the moment it trades at about a 50% discount when compared to international peers, which is the cheapest it's been in around two decades. It's has a strong balance sheet and high quality operations. Quite frankly I think it's cheap insurance at the current price."

Steven Schultz from Momentum chose Grindrod Shipping as his stock pick of the day. My stock pick this evening is Grindrod Shipping, it's not necessarily the most topical and certainly the does trade rather thinly and it had an absolute alignment of stars in terms of performance and their dry bulk shipping where prices have skyrocketed and partly a result of economy switching back online globally but also a surge in commodity demand from China. So, we're expecting some decent numbers out of them in the coming weeks. ​

Steven Schultz from Momentum chose Nedbank as his stock pick of the day. "My stock pick this evening is going to be Nedbank, they had a pretty descent set of numbers themselves. There is obviously going to be more Nedbank shares free floating following Old Mutual's unbundling. I think banks in general made over provision for Covid and that is starting to come through in the share price gains that we've seen."

Steven Schultz from Momentum chose Fedex as his stock pick of the day. "My stock pick is Fedex, it's a well known household brand, increasingly so post Covid and they are one of the largest global logistics companies. It has had a very difficult time since 2016 through to early 2020 effectively loosing around 50% of its price off the back of the acquisition of TNT express. It was a difficult acquisition to digest and some of the benefits owed to shareholders weren't forthcoming. It has great growth prospect and margins are already starting to drift up."

Steven Schultz from Momentum chose RMH as his stock pick of the day. ​ "My stock pick this evening is RMH properties, it is a counter that this week took quite a significant dive in price, following a special dividend yesterday of 80 cents. It is a REIT but but unlike many REITS in in SA it operates with a slightly different model whereby they align themselves with the best to be property developers and then monetize those properties as and when they deem it having reached fair value."

Steven Schultz from Momentum chose Investec as his stock pick of the day. "My stock pick this evening is not necessarily the most loved sector being financial services and banking in particular. I do believe that Investec is a well poised for a recovery in the sector. It's still some way off its 2015 highs and I do think it is well placed for a bit of an earnings recovery in the second half of this calendar year."

"My stock pick this evening is an offshore stock it's the Japanese Softbank, it's a Japanese multinational that effectively trades in Tokyo. It's a holding company with interest in technology, energy and finance and it has a great reputation for early start-up exposure through its very famous Vision Fund, the largest private equity fund in the world."

Steven Schultz' from Momentum chose Alibaba as his stock pick of the day. "I'm going for Alibaba, it's down at a whopping 29 since its October highs. It's undeniably one of the highest quality hyper growth blue chips that one can purchase globally."

Steven Schultz from Momentum chose WBHO as his stock pick of the day. WBHO is the pick, today I think the construction engineering company is currently trading at prices that were last seen in 2007 if I'm not mistaken. I think it's well known that the construction sector has been under pressure, they've also had some pretty unfortunate investments in Australia but I think at current valuations, with it's strong balance sheet, a great management team and if government starts infrastructure expenditure which hopefully we'll hear a little bit about on Wednesday, WBHO could be primed for recovery.

Steven Schultz from Momentum chose Lockheed Martin as his stock pick of the day. My stock pick is an offshore counter, it is a US listed counter that is surprisingly one of the few that is not loved by the market at the moment. It's Lockheed Martin the worlds largest defence company which boasts the US military as a big client and investors are a bit nervous around democrats cutting defence spending in the months ahead. Outside of rumours they have strong balance sheets, great quality cashflows, great earnings visibility and we are expecting low double digit US dollar returns."

"My stock pick this evening is Polyus, for the viewers not familiar with it, it is currently russia's largest goldminer and one of the top 10 producers globally in terms of volume. It's arguably the highest quality major miner in the world with all mines being open pit and highly mechanized which means that its current extraction of gold is at a cost price of around 600 us dollars. This is of course a great competitive advantage and I suppose no secret that I'm a fan of gold in this environment and one of the few people that believe that potentially an inflation surprise may be around the corner for the US and the globe."

Steven Schultz from Momentum chose Exxaro as his stock pick of the day. "My stock pick this evening is Exxaro and it's for viewers with a little bit more tolerance for potential short-term weakness and at the very least volatility. It's been a beneficiary of elevated iron-ore prices of late which has bolstered earnings."

Steven Schultz from Momentum chose Adcock Ingram as his stock pick of the day. "My stock is Adcock Ingram, well known for Panado, it currently has about 65% of its revenue from prescriptions and over-the-counter meds and around 25% from hospital drug usage. It's significantly de-rated this year and went down around 29% over the past 12 months, taking it from a 33 PE to a very undemanding 9. Bidvest is currently a 51% owner and I suspect that these levels Bidvest may want to increase their stake. The extent of the price pool is definitely overdone in my opinion and assuming conservative forward earnings, our target price is R68 which is a 27% improvement from current levels. "

Business Day TV — Steven Schultz from Momentum chose AVI as his stock pick of the day." AVI is my pick and was on my radar for quite some time. It was up 8% on the day, it has a number of very strong brands including Five Roses and Bakers and everyone's stuck at home drinking tea and eating biscuits. AVI has an exceptionally strong balance sheet with low levels of debt and interest payments are comfortable serviced by free cash flows. For anyone feeling a little bit positive on a South African recovery this is one of those recovery stocks that can be bought at a decent price."

Business Day TV — Steven Schultz from Momentum chose Citibank as his stock pick of the day. "My pick is Citibank trades in the US and today it trades at the lowest price to book in its sector. It also has a fairly robust and diverse business mix and it's got a resilient corporate and investment banking business on a peer related basis."

"I'm going for Tesla, it's a counter that is up 500% over the past year with no obvious justification for these gains. Despite delivering one twenty fifth the amount of vehicles that Toyota does, Tesla has a market cap now that makes it the world's most valuable auto maker. It is extremely expensive, pretty much on every matrix but looking at the enterprise-value-to-EBITDA ratio it stands out as extreme. Over the last three months we've seen earnings halve to $3, which makes one wonder why anyone would pay over $1300 for the share. To any investors that currently have it I would suggest to sell it but for the more speculative risky investor I would suggest a short on Tesla at this level."

Business Day TV — Steven Schultz from Momentum chose Anglogold as his stock pick of the day. "I'm going to stick with my conviction and my scepticism on the market and elect for Anglogold. Markets have clearly gotten ahead of themselves even if they don't want to admit it. I think the SA rand strength that we've seen over the last eight trading days and as well as a little bit of a softer US dollar gold price is creating a nice entry point. I think Anglogold is probably the stock pick of the gold mining sector. It currently trades at about R412 and our internal target price is around R550 so some decent upside. And, even if I'm horribly wrong and the world is a rosy place and expect monstrous inflation coming through in the next couple of months in which case gold is again a useful asset."

My stock pick this evening is NewGold and I think it is definitely time for investors to takeout a little bit of insurance and it doesn't get better than being gold of course and I think the the two real risks at the moment is the market getting ahead of itself, and you can see it right now in real time happening in the US. A lot of the price gains that we're witnessing is a flood of money coming through from central banks which is almost plastering over some of these is deep-rooted cracks in the economy, the real economy that we feel. So a little bit of safe haven insurance, and even if one is wrong on that thesis, I think all of this flood of money in an economy that's booming is undeniably going to create inflation in which case gold again could be pretty useful in ones portfolio

Business Day TV — Steven Schultz from Momentum chose British American Tobacco as his stock pick of the day. "My stock pick is a rather conservative one and it is British American Tobacco which traditionally has been an exceptionally defensive counter and which I like. Obviously one can question the trend of tobacco but the reality is today it's exceptionally cheap, it trades at a 24 month forward PE over 8 which I think is an absolute bargain"

Business Day TV — Steven Schultz from Momentum chose Exxaro as his stock pick of the day "It is a little bit of a gamble but I do think that the numbers work out quite favourably and in the case Exxaro. They obviously have stable thermal coals demand in place, albeit at lower prices than this time last year and of course has a fairly decent stake of about 21% in Kumba Iron Ore so again, one needs to take a view on the cycle and there certainly does appear to be commodity headwinds. But it does currently trade at forward PE of 4.4. It's got a dividend yield of over 10% and has very little debt on its books, their debt equity is about 20% and so one can't argue that that there's not value and at current levels."

Business Day TV — Steven Schultz from Momentum chose SA Government Bonds as his stock pick of the day. "Actually it isn't a stock pick it's a SA Government Bond, the tenure which currently trades of the yield of 10.6% which does feel quite generous and so we did a backward analysis using fairly conservative assumptions just to try and determine what is a fair value or fair yield for the bonds and we think on a ten-year at the moment given the quality is somewhere around 9%, then if you use that over a three-year period, assuming 9% is the right yield quality such as our ten-year and the coupon is included, you're looking at a return or somewhere between thirty and fifty percent annualised over the next three years."

Business Day TV — Steven Schultz from Momentum chose short term cash and long term Anglo American as his stock picks of the day. "I'm going short-term cash, a bit of a cop-out I know but I will go bold long-term Anglo American. I think Anglo American is a quality company, diversified miner with a great portfolio and is currently trading at a price to book of 0.6, which is the type of stuff you see in textbooks. PE of about 4 or 5, they've definitely got some demand. Head winds on the horizon but if the world starts to recover I think they are well placed. They also have an amazing negative correlation between volatility and Anglo and so really bad sentiment I believe that's driving the sell-off that we're experiencing at the moment"

Business Day TV — Steven Schultz from Momentum chose Firstrand as his stock pick of the day. "Stock pick this evening is FirstRand, I suppose its operating in a very challenging environment but, they have a pretty strong balance sheet at present. It's trading at the bottom of its two-year trading range, the thesis for FirstRand at present is an abundance of liquidity globally so, central banks are obviously going to remain in print mode and as a result we think there's definitely going to be a sustainable carry trade over the coming months if not years. The carry trade we think, is going to support local bond yields if not push local bond yields slightly lower and as a result of our very absent inflation locally. If that does happen, we think that rate sensitive assets like the bank shares and FirstRand for example will benefit from a bit of a rewriting. Base case for us is 17% return per annum for the next three years in our model and I think if you can purchase under R60 its a good buy"

Business Day TV — Steven Schultz from Momentum chose Standard Bank and Old Mutual as his stock picks for the day. "My stock pick this evening, if you can ignore your generator for a moment and take a bit of a positive view on South Africa and the two stock picks are Standard Bank and Old Mutual both very correlated to the South African economy. I think it's no secret consumers are under tremendous pressure which is causing massive dislocations in terms of valuations. If we could get a little bit of good news in to the South African consumer and SA Inc I think Standard Bank is probably the best valuation out of the big four or five listed banks. It trades at a forward p/e or for price-to-book rather of 1.5 and versus long-term 1.6, 1.7. Target price probably suggests around 200 or trades at 164."

Business Day TV — Steven Schultz from Momentum chose Bristol-Myers Squibb as his stock pick of the day. "My stock pick today is a US-listed bio pharm by the name of Bristol-Myers Squibb. It is a specialist in immune oncology treatments and it's a company that's been around for 80 years so an exceptionally strong balance sheet. It's got a track record as being the first to market and pioneering certain oncology treatments and it has lost that competitive advantage or "first to market" advantage of late, and in April this year we heard the announcement that they would be combining or acquiring a pretty significant competitor called Celgene to the tune of 80 billion. It doesn't matter really how you grade them, whether on a historic basis, a peer relative or just from an earnings perspective we think that they're very cheap they trade at a PE of 13 at the moment and we think they are a decent buy.

Business Day TV — Steven Schultz from Momentum chose Reinet as his stock pick of the day "My stock pick this evening is Reinet, it has been a serial under performer over the last couple of years and for those that don't follow the counter, it's effectively an investment holding company that gives exposure to British American Tobacco, UK insurance China A listed shares and some Singaporean startups in a tech space. I know tobacco's is certainly not the sexiest industry to be in at the moment, but it has whittled down to about just over half of the current holdings in the portfolio. It's got a gem of a business in pension insurance corporation, which is a specialist UK defined benefits insurer which is performing exceptionally well. It currently has a net asset value of four hundred and ten per share trades at 265 so 35 to 40 percent discount and I think that margins say is going to be very useful if the market comes under pressure one."

Business Day TV — Steven Schultz from Momentum chose Aspen Pharmacare as his stock pick of the day. "Its Aspen, it's a counter that's effectively halved in value over the past twelve months. There's been a number of reasons why, most notably debt buildup and shareholders are obviously uncomfortable with that. We've seen not a lot of assistance come through in the form of a slight decline in earnings and revenue. The company has of course disposed of assets and paid down some debt. It was previously at about fifty three billion rands worth of debt, today sits at about thirty nine billion so, definitely making headway in paying off their debt. It is also transforming the company, its European operations are currently under strategic review and it is transforming across from a generics business into a sterile injectables business. There are many that have criticized its organic grow

"I'm going with a Adcock Ingram, it's a great pharmaceutical company with a very strong balance sheet on a pier relative basis and we know that they're certainly not overextended from a gearing perspective and we've seen that hurt their competitors. It has had a very decent set of results earnings and their headline earnings operating profits both up double digits in the most recent results. They have lot of free cash flow coming and they do not have a lot of reliance on government although they did just win a decent slice of the anti retroviral government tender of about 12%. They've got a great portfolio including the likes of Citro-soda and we've seen Bioplus, Panado all going up double digits. I think they have a good portfolio and we've got a target price of 72 which means it implies about a 16 percent return over the next twelve months which we think is pretty decent."
