The Nikki Rich Show Live with Former ladies of the Supremes Scherrie Payne, Susaye Greene and Joyce Vincent. The Former Ladies of The Supremes have performed live in concert and appeared on TV Shows throughout Europe, the Middle East and the Orient alongside such stellar acts as Tom Jones, James Brown, Sister Sledge, The Temptations, Martha & the Vandellas, The Four Tops, The Three Degrees and The Commodores, just to name a few. In April of 2016 the ladies celebrated the 30th Anniversary of The Former Ladies of The Supremes with a special performance in Hollywood, CA. The ladies were presented with personalized trophies to commemorate their successful career after their standing ovation performance. In the Summer of 2017, after 31 years of performing alongside Scherrie Payne, Lynda Laurence decided to leave the group. As the saying goes "The Show Must Go On' and Scherrie called upon former Supreme Susaye Greene to replace her. Susaye excitedly accepted the offer and the trio hasn't miss a beat! Photo shoots and rehearsals instantly took place and the new lineup emerged to much fanfare. It's noteworthy to point out that the current lineup of Scherrie Payne, Susaye Greene and Joyce Vincent were to be the 1977 lineup of Supremes. However, plans changed and Motown chose to disband The Supremes, and the lineup never got a chance to perform together......Until Now! Scherrie Payne, Susaye Greene and Joyce Vincent continue to perform all over the world with live performances, TV appearances and new exciting recordings. Scherrie and Susaye are proud of their Supreme history, and continue to present this legendary music to audiences all over the world as......Scherrie Payne & Susaye Greene, Formerly of The Supremes!
When I was growing up, I listened to Rachmaninoff and I listened to Motown. It’s not as strange a pairing as it might seem. The music that came from both was incredible, and in the case of the latter, Motown was not just the sound of “young America”, but the beating rhythm behind the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s. How relevant that is today still. In the mix was Susaye Greene, a longtime collaborator of musical greats from Ray Charles to Stevie Wonder. To the wider public, she is perhaps best-known as being the last member of The Supremes, the girl group originally led by Diana Ross that racked up 12 #1 hits. But Susaye is as much a creator as she is a performer. She wrote ‘I Can’t Help It’, the incredible track sung by Michael Jackson on his ‘Off the Wall’ album, as well as ‘Free’, hit single for Deniece Williams. I sat down with Susaye at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles, and we had a fantastic time recording this podcast. If you love music, and the way it connects to social history, then listen to our conversation. I think you’ll love it.
If Michael can't help it, and Quincy Jones can't help it, and Stevie Wonder can't help it, and Susaye Greene, final member of the Supremes, can't help it, then the Yaxzon Jackson Podcast is going to have to step in and help it... Once we talk about about a bunch of other stuff first--anniversaries, release dates, and of course, a letter from the coveted mail closet. Don't forget that you can help us help Michael help it by participating in the conversation via the comment section, or on Twitter, by emailing us, or simply by yelling out your windows until we can hear you. The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview The Last Supreme Susaye Green. Neil will interview Susaye to find out about The Supremes, Twenty Feet From Stardom, and Her latest album. Born in Houston, Texas, she began her professional career at the age of 12 years. After moving to New York City as a teenager, she appeared in various commercials and attended and graduated from the New York City High School of Performing Arts. Prior to joining The Supremes, Greene sang with Ray Charles' Raelettes and Stevie Wonder's Wonderlove, which paired her with Deniece Williams and Shirley Brewer. In 1973, she sang lead as a guest vocalist on New Birth's hit "Until It's Time for You to Go" (a cover of Buffy Sainte-Marie's song). A successful singer and songwriter as well, Greene has written hit records for Michael Jackson, Deniece Williams, and many others. Greene was a member of The Supremes from early 1976 to summer of 1977 (replacing Cindy Birdsong), and performed on their last two albums, High Energy and Mary, Scherrie & Susaye. Working alongside original member Mary Wilson and Scherrie Payne, Susaye quickly found her niche in the group and amongst the group's legions of fans. Susaye took lead on "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother," in the group's live shows, which never failed to garner a standing ovation, and recorded "High Energy", the title song from the High Energy album. On June 12, 1977, the Supremes performed their farewell concert at the Drury Lane Theater in London and disbanded.
