In this message, Paul continues in our preaching series on preparing room in our hearts for Jesus. He preaches about 3 people (Mary, Joseph and the shepherds) who physically prepared room for Jesus when He came to earth in human form. God also did a work in these peoples hearts as they prepared room physically for Jesus.

Sermon Replay"Let Every Heart Prepare Him Room – Clear the Way"Mark 1:1-8Sermon by Pastor Mark HuntAdvent is more than the countdown to Christmas. It is a sacred season of hopeful waiting and intentional preparation. In this message, we move from Advent's longing to its call to prepare, clearing space in our hearts for Christ to come in fresh and transforming ways.Drawing from the opening verses of Mark, Pastor Mark reminds us of John the Baptist's urgent invitation to “prepare the way of the Lord” through repentance and renewal. As we continue through this season, we are encouraged to slow down and ask three honest questions:What needs to be removedWhat needs to be surrenderedWhat needs to be welcomedMay this week be a time of clearing the way so every heart can prepare Him room.#UnionChurchofGuatemala #UCG #SermonReplay #AdventSeason #PrepareHimRoom #ClearTheWay #InternationalChurch #SoliDeoGloria

In this message, Paul begins our series on preparing our hearts for Jesus to have His way in our lives. Three of the prophecies that Jesus fulfilled in His coming to earth are discussed in this message. Those are: John the Baptist preparing the way for Jesus (as we should prepare room for Him in our own hearts), Jesus being born to a human virgin (Mary, who was fully human receiving the seed of God, making Jesus fully God and fully man), and Jesus being born as Mighty and Powerful God.

Today I'm reviewing Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire — a tiny book with impossible emotional weight. It's short, sharp, gorgeously imaginative, and somehow shatters you in under 200 pages.McGuire takes the classic portal-fantasy idea and flips it on its head, exploring what happens after kids return from magical worlds — and how heartbreakingly hard it is to come back to a reality that no longer fits. It's eerie, thoughtful, tender, and brutal in all the best ways. This was a 5-star read for me — no hesitation. If you love fantasy that's lyrical, queer, unsettling, and devastatingly human, this is one you need on your shelf.✨ Tune in for my spoiler-free breakdown — why this novella hits so hard, the themes that linger, and whether the rest of the Wayward Children series lives up to book one. Why would God dedicate an entire book of the Bible to building a wall? The answer reveals something profound about protection, redemption, and the very heart of our relationship with God.In this episode of Nehemiah 3, we explore why rebuilding Jerusalem's wall wasn't just about physical safety. It's about protecting the Temple, God's dwelling place, and the eternal salvation of His people. You'll discover the spiritual significance of each gate, from the Sheep Gate where sacrificial lambs entered to the mysterious East Gate where Jesus fulfills Ezekiel's prophecy about the return of divine glory. In this episode discover: How Nehemiah's wall protected both earthly life and eternal life for God's people. The prophetic connection between the East Gate, Ezekiel's vision, and Jesus reversing humanity's eastward exile from God.Why guarding the hearts of those you love, the modern temples where God dwells, requires you to be both a strong wall and a wise gatekeeperToday, God no longer dwells in a temple made of stone. He dwells in our hearts. Who is God calling you to protect?Show Notes:BlogWe love feedback, but can't reply without your email address. Message us your thoughts and contact info! Before Christ, we were not spiritually neutral—we were under the rule of sin, death, and dark powers. But through union with Christ, God has made us alive and seated us with Jesus in heavenly places, sharing in His victory and authority. This isn't abstract theology; it's Paul's way of saying, “You don't have to be afraid anymore.” Christ's throne in heaven and His throne in our hearts are connected—when we enthrone Him daily, His power displaces fear, sin, and every rival ruler.

Dr. David J. Peter joins this episode of The Concordia Publishing House Podcast to discuss the 2025 Advent series, Every Heart Prepare, which he authored in partnership with CPH. Order your church's Advent materials at cph.org/advent. Show NotesWe do so much to prepare for Christmas. One way we prepare is by decorating our homes, yards, and churches with evergreens, lights, the crèche, and presents. This season, reflect upon these common Christmas decorations and how they help us see Christ and prepare for His coming with this Advent and Christmas series.Dr. David J. Peter discusses Every Heart Prepare, the all-inclusive Advent preaching and worship series that features sermons and sermon notes, Bible studies, children's messages, a children's Christmas service, and more. He talks about what first inspired him to write about common Christmas decorations and how they relate to Advent, advice he would give pastors for using these materials in their congregations, and what part of this series was most meaningful to him. Dr. Peter is also the author of Organizing for Ministry and Mission: Options for Church Structure (CPH, 2023). QuestionsWhat first inspired you to connect common Christmas decorations with themes of Advent preparation? Why should pastors use this series for their congregation? What advice would you give pastors on adapting or customizing these materials for their specific congregational setting? The evergreen tree has long symbolized eternal life. How does your sermon connect that symbol to Christ's coming?Light is such a powerful biblical image. How does the “Lights” sermon draw people into the message of Jesus as the Light of the World? The crèche—often a quiet, simple decoration—has deep theological meaning. How do you help congregations rediscover its significance? On Christmas, the focus turns to wrapped presents. How do you use the imagery of gifts to reveal the meaning of God's greatest gift, Jesus Christ? What part of this series was most meaningful for you personally, and why?About the GuestDr. David J. Peter has served as a professor of practical theology and the dean of faculty at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, where he has regularly led courses for practicing pastors. His areas of expertise include pastoral ministry and researching congregational dynamics. Dr. Peter has also gained many insights from students about the realities of administration and leadership in congregations throughout his years of preaching and instructing. Before joining the Seminary, Dr. Peter served as a visiting instructor of theology at Concordia University in Nebraska, Seward from 1987 to 1988. He also served as associate pastor at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Peoria, Illinois, from 1988 to 1995 and then as senior pastor from 1995 to 1998. One of the hardest moments I (Joanna) can remember as a mom is when our six-year-old daughter refused, to the point of tears, to wear her blue pants with a butterfly on the pocket. Thinking she was just being stubborn, I refused to back down—and it wasn't until two hours later that I finally gave up on trying to convince her.Well, a few months later, I learned that our daughter has a significant sensory processing disorder. Those pants that I was so determined for her to wear were actually causing her very real physical pain. In my determination to prove my authority, I was not just hurting my daughter's spirit, but her body as well. This is just one of countless examples I could give of how we can parent with the best intentions but still make mistakes. When this happens, shame can wash over us, polarizing our relationships and overwhelming us with despair. If you are struggling with guilt and shame today, I am so happy to be able to introduce you to this episode's guest, Jodi Jackson Tucker.Jodi is a biological, foster, and adoptive mother to eight children with her husband, Jerry. This week, we’re recognizing what is known around the Christian world as Palm Sunday, which is recorded in all four gospels. It was immediately recognized by all who were present as an announcement of Jesus as the Messiah. Their King had arrived, a moment they had been anticipating for centuries, but although the triumphal entry happened exactly as they had expected, there were a lot of things their hearts were not prepared for. Thanks to the benefit of hindsight, we understand what Jesus was doing and why it had to be the way it was. When King Jesus arrived, He started to put things in order and reset people’s priorities, which is the same thing that happens when we encounter Jesus today. Using the events of Palm Sunday, Pastor John shares four things we can do to align our misplaced priorities with the Kingdom and get our hearts ready for the King.
