Earlier this month, Talkhouse headed down to the legendary insanity that is SXSW in Austin, TX for bands, breakfast tacos, more bands, and — of course — podcasts! We were honored to be asked for the second consecutive year to curate a live Talkhouse Podcast recording on the official SXSW Podcast Stage, where we paired two of indie rock’s prolific singer/songwriters releasing exciting new music this year. John Vanderslice and Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew are both fantastic artists and hilarious, thoughtful conversationalists. The two chopped it up in front of an audience of fans on everything from the various forms of therapy that each is currently undergoing (one is micro-dosing) to the Great SX Scooter Scourge of 2019. Their talk also takes in their new music, the economic realities of running a pro recording studio in 2019, Vanderslice’s near-death tour experience, and ordering cocaine on the dark web. Check it out and subscribe now to stay in the loop on future episodes of the Talkhouse Podcast. Stay up to date on live Talkhouse events with our Events tab. —Elia Einhorn, Talkhouse Podcast host and producer Today’s episode was co-produced by Mark Yoshizumi. It was recorded at JW Marriott in Austin by Sean Cherry and Kari Erickson, and at Hook and Fade Studios in Brooklyn by Mark Yoshizumi. Additional recording by Josh Modell. The Talkhouse Podcast’s theme song was composed and performed by The Range. Thanks to SXSW, Cadence 13, and all the Talkhouse fans who roll through our live events.

Shrink Speak took to the SXSW 2019 Podcast stage on March 11th live from Austin, Texas. In this special episode Dr. Jeffrey Lieberman was joined by Dr. Charles Nemeroff, the Director of the Institute for Early Life Adversity Research at the University of Texas Dell Medical School to explore childhood trauma live on the SXSW 2019 Podcast Stage. Adversity and stress come in many forms throughout the life-cycle, however, it is especially pernicious in early life. Brain development during gestation, postnatally, infancy, early and late childhood is particularly susceptible to the potential of adversity to cause effects that are psychologically and emotionally traumatic and have enduring effects that impact the person’s behavior throughout life. What happens to faith in career civil servants and institutions when scandals hit public service? It’s easy to lose faith in public officials, political appointees, and inner aides to any President when you see a drip and drab of headlines, gossip, and resignations. On the heels of Trump’s 34th senior departure (in Gary Cohn), host Vikrum Aiyer reflects on his own missteps as a political appointee, and describes how trust in public service and institutions should not be lost due to the tireless Career Civil Servants we never hear about in the headlines but still show up to work every day regardless of who’s  president.______________________________________________________________Join Vikrum Aiyer when he takes the South by Southwest stage March 11th, 2018.
