The Current State of Podcasting: A Comprehensive GuideIn the latest episode of our podcast, we had the pleasure of hosting Jeff Umbro, the CEO of Podglomerate. Jeff shared his extensive knowledge about the podcasting industry, offering valuable insights into its growth, best practices for independent podcasters, and effective monetization strategies. This blog post will break down the key points discussed in the episode, providing actionable advice and thorough explanations to help you navigate the podcasting landscape.Jeff begins by highlighting the impressive growth of podcasting over the past 16 years. According to the Edison Infinite Dial Report, approximately 132 million people in the U.S. listen to podcasts regularly, averaging about seven shows each month. This growth has been further accelerated by the pandemic, which increased streaming audio consumption. Podglomerate, founded in 2017, is a podcast services company that focuses on producing, marketing, and monetizing podcasts. They work with a diverse range of clients, from large corporations like Netflix and PBS to small businesses and individual creators. Jeff emphasizes that their goal is to help podcasters create high-quality content and effectively reach their target audience.Jeff also discusses the recent consolidation in the podcasting industry, with major players like Spotify, SiriusXM, and Apple acquiring smaller companies. This consolidation has led to a shift in the types of shows being produced, with a growing focus on ad sales and listener engagement. Despite these changes, advertising on podcasts remains highly effective. Jeff notes that podcast ads often outperform other digital mediums, attracting more brands to the space. He emphasizes the importance of creating quality content that resonates with listeners and advises podcasters to focus on engagement metrics such as social media mentions, listener feedback, and overall consumption patterns. For those with limited budgets, Jeff recommends leveraging owned properties like websites, newsletters, and social media to promote their shows and suggests cross-promotion with similar shows as a more effective strategy for audience growth.About Jeff Umbro:Jeff Umbro is the founder and CEO of The Podglomerate, the award-winning company which produces, distributes, and monetizes podcasts. The Podglomerate is a boot-strapped organization which now works with more than 70 podcasts and more than 30 million monthly podcast downloads. Prior to launching the Podglomerate, Jeff had his hands in audience growth and business development for companies like Product Hunt, Serial Box, VotePlz, Talkshow, and Goldberg McDuffie Communications.About Podglomerate:The Podglomerate has been producing, distributing, and monetizing podcasts since 2016. A false smear about Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio killing pets made its way from a fourth-hand Facebook rumor to Donald Trump's lips during his televised debate with Kamala Harris. Despite the fact that there is no evidence for this claim and local authorities have explicitly denied that it's true, Republicans have enthusiastically promoted the libel in order to demonize Haitians who are legally living and working in the town. This promotion includes AI generated images of anthropomorphic cats in tactical gear. We discuss how this false claim spread, the background of recent anti-immigrant sentiment in JD Vance's home state, a historical example of how American anti-immigrant conspiracy theories inspired deadly violence, and how the current smears are leading to innocent people being threatened right now. The Last Cuentista is a winner of the Newberry Medal award, and is the second book by author Donna Barba Higuera. It is a fast paced, middle-grade dystopian sci-fi, and yet it has so much depth and maturity in its themes. We were able to discuss many topics at length including immigration, the importance of storytelling, genetic enhancement, collective working, and what connects us. Azul Uribe is a bi-cultural woman who was partially raised in the U.S.—Texas and Mexico. She is currently working on a book of essays, and lives in Merida Mexico, with her two cats, where she owns no high heels and never wears pants. She has been featured in The Daily Dot, and the Anthologies Los Otros Dreamers (2014) and Somewhere We Are Human (Harper Collins 2019). We talk about Azul's personal story, as it deals with deportation, and the U.S. immigration policies and other systemic failures that make the path to citizenship unattainable.
This episode examines a video from 2020 that seemed to show a black person being harassed by a racist white woman. The video was shared by the celebrity gossip personality Perez Hilton, and was then picked up by several low-quality news sites, like RawStory.com and DailyDot.com. But the video was staged; it was done as a joke, for reasons unknown. This episode examines the reasons why I confidently believed the video was staged after watching it for only a few seconds Learn more and sign up for a premium subscription at PeopleWhoReadPeople.com.

Carlee Russel returned home two days later and claimed she had been kidnapped and had barely managed to escape. She said the toddler was used as bait. If you like our content, please become a patron to get all our episodes ad-free. Carlee described how a man with “orange hair” emerged from the woods and picked her up and forced her into a vehicle. No, it wasn't Donald Trump. 1 She said the man then put her into the trailer of a tractor and drove her to an unknown location where he forced her to undress and took photos of her. Carlee also mentioned that the man had a female accomplice who fed her cheese crackers. 2 Police soon realized her story didn't add up. Carlee admitted she faked her own abduction. Her motives are unclear, but we suspect she was “inspired” by the kidnapping social media craze, a new “Satanic Panic” type of phenomenon which has been spreading like wildfire online, especially on Tik Tok. 3 This new trend, started by right-wing evangelicals, aims to terrify women, and convince them they can be abducted at any moment and sex trafficked. The scope is to distract from real social issues like overturning Roe v Wade, the gun violence epidemic, voting rights etc. Statistically, a woman in the US is more likely to get hit by lightning than get kidnapped and sex trafficked. 1. First and foremost: Subscribe to my new Substack called "Consumer Beast" I will discuss bank issues in longform there, plus I will also rant about customer service issues in other fields! Now, let's get to the business at hand. Wednesday, January 18th, Bank of America had a major outage with Zelle, causing transfers that happened the previous four days to reverse, leading to negative balances and missing money. It was one of the biggest social media days of my existence, with some posts getting tens of thousands of views on Twitter and hundreds of new followers. I was able to make a debut on a national newscast as a "consumer advocate" and banking expert talking about it. Thank You Scripps News! I also was able to do a long form interview on a Youtube show called The Plainest Jane! Time Article about the story Yahoo News Article about the story My blog was cited in the Daily Dot's story as well I discuss what I think happened, and how BofA being apathetic to clients is par for the course here. It was ridiculous. Plus more news about EWS, The parent company with Zelle. They made a prediction of mine true. They are rolling out a payment wallet which will compete with Apple Pay and Paypal. Integrating customers bank cards in the app, The new unnamed Zelle Wallet will let clients pay for things directly through them. I am skeptical about the adoption of this by clients, coupled with the poor customer service with Zelle fraud that currently exists. I discuss why. Crazy week. Thanks for following! Ineitha Lynette Hardaway—better known as “Diamond” from the pro-Trump broadcasting duo “Diamond and Silk”—passed away this week, leaving the future of the pair's popular act in limbo. In this week's episode of Fever Dreams, hosts Will Sommer and Kelly Weill speculate on what comes next for “Silk”—who was never really the group's frontman, so to speak. Then, the pair tackle Brazil's own Capitol riot, which came nearly two years to the day after Jan. 6. In terms of pure aesthetics, the two scenes were incredibly reminiscent of each other: “They had the flags, they had the marching groups, they had the people walking through government chambers, trashing things,” Weill said. But even as this was all going on, former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been camped out in Florida at the home of an MMA star, signing autographs and meeting with American fans of his Trumpian governing style. The state has become a new nexus for the world's various right-wing movements in recent years, according to Fever Dreams guest and The Daily Dot political reporter Claire Goforth—and it appears Bolsonaro is angling to stay there and trade in on his popularity with the MAGA base rather than face the music back at home. This episode of Across The Margin: The Podcast features an interview with journalist, published author, and the foremost expert in this ever-changing QAnon conspiracy theory, Mike Rothschild. Mike is a contributing writer for millennial-focused news and technology site the Daily Dot, where he explores the intersections between internet culture and politics through the lens of conspiracy theories. As a subject matter expert in the field of fringe beliefs, Mike has been interviewed by the New York Times, the Washington Post, CNN, Yahoo, the Daily Beast, CBS, the San Francisco Chronicle, Rolling Stone, Snopes, NBC News, Vice, and Politico, among many others. He is also a frequent speaker, and podcast and radio guest on the topic of conspiracy theories, including NPR's weekly show “On the Media,” a Vice documentary, and the ReplyAll podcast. On October 5, 2017, President Trump made a cryptic remark in the State Dining Room at a gathering of military officials. He said it felt like “the calm before the storm” — then refused to elaborate as puzzled journalists asked him to explain. But on the infamous message boards of 4chan, a mysterious poster going by “Q Clearance Patriot,” who claimed to be in “military intelligence,” began the elaboration on their own. In the days that followed, Q's wild yarn explaining Trump's remarks began to rival the sinister intricacies of a Tom Clancy novel, while satisfying the deepest desires of MAGA-America. Did any of what Q predicted come to pass? No. Did that stop people from clinging to every word they were reading, expanding its mythology, and promoting it wider and wider? No. In Mike Rosthchild's The Storm Is Upon Us — the focus of this episode — readers are whisked from the background conspiracies and cults that fed the Q phenomenon, to its embrace by right-wing media and Donald Trump, through the rending of families as loved ones became addicted to Q's increasingly violent rhetoric. He also makes a compelling case that mocking the seeming madness of QAnon will get us nowhere. Rather, his impassioned reportage makes clear that it's critical to figure out what QAnon really is — because QAnon and its relentlessly dark theory of everything isn't done yet. In this episode host Michael Shields and Mike Rothschild discuss the appeal of QAnon to far too many Americans while considering how the mythology of QAnon somehow continues to endure. They explore how Anti-semitism is deeply baked into QAnon's mythology, how violent the movement has alway been (well before the January 6th Insurrection), how the pandemic affected the QAnon movement, how one can potential help release a family member from Q's spell, and much, much more. “Crazy,” “heart attack kid,” “nuts.” This week's Off The Cuff guest, Dr. Justin Puder, heard it all as a kid who grew up struggling with mental health in small-town Ohio. That struggle, as well as the early loss of his father and brother from cancer and drug addiction respectively, introduced young Dr. J to therapy for the first time. “[The therapist] didn't call it meditation. She didn't call it mindfulness. She's literally like, ‘We're just gonna do something together here.' And she had me lay down and essentially she did a guided meditation. … I remember within minutes, like just two minutes into it, like I had opened my eyes because I was so excited. It was the first time I experienced peace in months.” The experience inspired him to become a licensed psychologist himself. Now, Dr. J primarily works with teens at his Florida practice, where he specializes in mindfulness-based approaches to anxiety and stress reduction. In this episode, Dr. J discusses growing up around mental health stigma at home and at school, the life-saving importance of destigmatizing therapy, the dangers of self-diagnosis, and how social media can both help and harm mental health. “We've gone from like, again, never talking about mental health to sort of swinging. I feel like the pendulum swung far the other way, where it's just like, everybody wants to have the sticker label of some diagnosis. [But] clinging to a label isn't actually going to help you, in the long run, understand how to get better.” If you're unsure whether therapy is right for you, Dr. J shares some tips: Work through a mental health workbook written by a licensed expert. You'll learn more about the psychological principles that make therapy work, and gain a better understanding of yourself in the process. Journal. You'll become more comfortable putting your thoughts, fears and struggles into words, which can help you when you decide to talk to a therapist. Remember that your well-being and mental health are worth the effort. “For so many people out there, like if you're going through something mental health-wise and you're in that state [of panic and despair], I hope you can hear me and Danny that it can and does get better.” In This Episode The real-life childhood trauma that inspired Dr. J to become a therapist (04:30) Dr. J's first panic attack and the stigma of mental health in the Midwest (08:18) The “breaking point” that led to Dr. J's first therapy session (13:25) Overcoming the stigma of therapy for teens (15:24) The cultural and regional differences that contribute to stigmatization (18:48) Social media and its impact on mental health (23:32) The future of neuroscience in mental health treatment (26:35) “Dr. Google” and the dangers of self-diagnosis (33:25) Starting the therapy process (39:19) The relationship between therapy and psychotropic medication (58:39) The progress of mental health destigmatization in schools (01:09:33) Our Guest Dr. Justin Puder is a Florida-based licensed psychologist who earned degrees in psychology from Kent State University, Florida Atlantic University and Auburn University. He specializes in anxiety and stress reduction using mindfulness-based approaches. Dr. Puder especially enjoys working with teens. In a time in U.S. history marked by polarization and partisan gridlock, Americans are looking for answers. For former Republican congressman and CIA officer Will Hurd, these questions need answering—fast. As the country faces new challenges and it becomes increasingly difficult for Washington to act amid political divides, Hurd proposes a guide to “reboot” the system and mobilize the country to meet the changes ahead. Called “the future of the GOP” by Politico and “the Most Interesting Man in Congress” by the Daily Dot in 2017, Will Hurd is a former clandestine CIA Officer with 9 years of service history and a three-times elected congressional representative from Texas's 23rd District. In Congress, Hurd held multiple committee appointments during his tenure, utilizing his expertise in technology, cybersecurity and national security as a leading Republican voice for bipartisanship. In his new book, American Reboot: An Idealist's Guide to Getting Big Things Done, Hurd grounds his analysis of the American political system in “pragmatic realism,” offering solutions to a crisis-rocked country based on American values. In it, Hurd walks through the challenges presented by rising income inequality, unprecedented technological changes, dishonest elected officials, the Republican Party's ailing vision for the future and the shifting balance of global power. There, drawing from personal experience and professional expertise, he draws a path forward amid these uncertainties to a more unified, efficient and equitable America. Join us as Hurd presents a playbook for America to boldly advance through the challenges ahead and into a new era of bipartisanship, inclusivity and democracy. When Stephen Wilhite, the creator of the .GIF image, died last month at the age of 74, millions on the Internet shared their favorite (and earliest-known) looping animations in honor of the influential computer scientist. But how did this highly compressed CompuServe image format from 1987 become the ubiquitous communication method bursting from all of our smartphone keyboards? Nearly all the coverage of Wilhite's death links back to one interview from 2012. Fernando Alfonso, III, a reporter at The Daily Dot (fine publisher of this very podcast!) tracked down the reclusive Wilhite to discuss the legacy of the .GIF, and why it became so pivotal in the maturation of the Web. Alfonso (now a supervising editor at NPR) explains why .GIFs were invented, why they blossomed with artists of the early Web, how hard it was to make them in the early aughts, and whether we should expect the .GIF to survive the next 10 years. Anti-racism revolutions… and more on today's CrossPolitic Daily News Brief. This is Toby Sumpter. Today is Tuesday, November 23, 2021. Find all our shows at Crosspolitic.com and download the Fight Laugh Feast App at your favorite app store so you don't miss anything. Guess who's back on Youtube? We are! Here's the goal… Youtube will still carry our live stream but after that stream is done it is going to only be on the app. we will however post clips to youtube still but the outside of the livestream if you want to catch the full show you have Rumble, The FLF app and FB. What's the Goal of Antiracism? Play Audio: When people say that Critical Race Theory is just Marxism applied to race. This is what we're talking about. Instead of reducing everything and everyone down to economic status like Mark did, between the proletariat and bourgeois, modern Marxists divide everything and everyone by race or gender or some other intersectional nonsense. But notice that this lady says: anti-racism asks for “literally” a revolution that will tear down that system. That system was built on Christian principles. Despite all the sin and evil that was still resident in it, there was a standard, an immune system slowly checking, curbing, and correcting those sinful elements. What will you get when the anti-racists are on top? What do you get when anti-racists are the oppressors? There's no standard… And just in case you think we might be a little extreme, it's what they are literally chanting in the streets of Chicago following the Rittenhouse exoneration: Play audio: 0:00-0:12 Twitter Users Suspended for Saying Rittenhouse Did Nothing Wrong After His Exoneration https://thefederalist.com/2021/11/22/twitter-suspended-me-for-saying-kyle-rittenhouse-did-nothing-wrong-after-his-acquittal/ Speaking of the Rittenhouse exoneration, Josiah Lippincott is a PhD student at Hillsdale College, a Marine veteran, and writer. In the exuberant hours after Rittenhouse's acquittal, he tweeted the phrase “Kyle Rittenhouse did nothing wrong” to his 10,000 followers. The tweet went viral, generating hundreds of retweets and thousands of likes. Only a few days earlier, Mr. Lippincott had tweeted the same thing only to have it yanked by Twitter and his account suspended. So, following the jury's verdict, Mr. Lippincott tweeted the same phrase, “Kyle Rittenhouse did nothing wrong” with a screenshot of the previous suspension from twitter. He felt vindicated and apparently thousands other twitter users agreed. However, Twitter was not having it, not even after a jury ruled that Kyle Rittenhouse was innocent of all charges. On Sunday morning, Mr. Lippincott woke up to another suspension from Twitter for insisting that Rittenhouse was in the right. The first suspension had been for 12 hours. This second suspension is for seven days. Twitter has determined that it is the Grand Arbiter of truth and justice, not the American justice system, not due process, not a jury of peers, you know those principles of justice derived from the Word of God. Which, incidentally, when you make yourself the arbiter of truth and justice, you are essentially claiming to be God. Police Officer Who was Fired for donating to Rittenhouse Fund Demands Job Back https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10222207/Virginia-cop-fired-anonymously-donating-25-Kyle-Rittenhouse-fund-demands-job-back.html In other news on the fallout of the Rittenhouse verdict: A Virginia cop who was fired for anonymously donating $25 to a Kyle Rittenhousedefense fund after being outed by hackers and the media is now demanding his job back from the woke, 'hypocrite' police chief who fired him. Speaking to DailyMail.com on Friday, as the Rittenhouse verdict came in, Norfolk Police Lieutenant William 'Bill' Kelly explained why he thought Rittenhouse deserved his help back then, and why he stands by the decision now. Kelly, a 19-year veteran and father-of-three who had moved into the internal affairs division at the time, made a $25 donation to a Give Send Go online campaign for Rittenhouse's legal team after watching social media videos and journalists' footage from the August 2020 Kenosha riots. He wrote alongside his donation: 'God Bless. Thank you for your courage. Keep your head up. You've done nothing wrong. Every rank-and-file police officer supports you.' https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10222207/Virginia-cop-fired-anonymously-donating-25-Kyle-Rittenhouse-fund-demands-job-back.html#v-2288644209685676032 Play audio: 0:14-0:39 Kelly, a self-confessed 'news junkie', saw that a GoFundMe account for Rittenhouse had been canceled, and a site called Give Send Go had set up another page for him. He logged on and donated, making sure to leave out personal details because he says he didn't want to associate himself with the police department. 'I was interested in giving him the chance to defend himself in front of a jury. I know that lawyers are expensive, and it's hard sometimes to get the message out there. I wanted to make sure that he had the means necessary to make his claim in court. 'It mattered. The comments I made, my belief that he has a strong claim for self-defense was a personal opinion. I didn't want my city or police department to be associated with it, so I chose to donate anonymously. 'It was only after the hackers broke into it that they were able to connect those dots,' he said. A hacker group called 'Distributed Denial of Secrets' obtained his name and email address from the fund and provided it to The Guardian, which published a story including his name. The Daily Dot followed. Within a day of it coming out, the Norfolk Police Department was receiving widespread calls to fire Kelly from all over the world. 'It wasn't people local, it was people from all around the country who read an article and sent a nasty tweet. In the absence of that outcry, there would not have been any kind of disciplinary action against me, I'm confident,' he said. The city decided that the comments 'eroded' the public's trust in the police and Kelly was fired in April. He has since filed a grievance, but the process is ongoing and in the meantime, he's had to survive on his savings. He says the only reason he was fired was because he supported the teenager. 'If I had a different opinion and I donated to a fund for the victims and made comments about how Mr. Rittenhouse was a murderer, nobody would have cared or tried to get me fired.' In his grievance, he points to the fact that the police chief Larry Boone attended a BLM protest in May last year in full uniform, while on duty. In the photo, Boone is holding a sign that reads Black Lives Matter, with the names of people who have been shot by cops - including some in Norfolk - around it. 'The hypocrisy is dumbfounding. For the leader of our organization to be able to advocate support for a movement that is at the very least divisive in America today, in uniform while on duty... he was holding carried the name of a person who had recently been shot by a Norfolk police officer. 'The sign demanded justice for that person, but that shooting was still under investigation to determine whether or not that officer should be charged criminally. It's very inconsistent. Jonah Goldberg and Chris Hayes Leaving Fox over Tucker Carlson January 6 Doc https://thedispatch.com/p/why-we-are-leaving-fox-news?fbclid=IwAR0swf7Gg8vVO8xeHsUYi67w0JtZmwV8Pfpvscb47Wr_SAz56eL_ckZmMMk Jonah Goldberg and Chris Hayes announced that they are leaving Fox News over the weekend. But the voices of the responsible are being drowned out by the irresponsible. A case in point: Patriot Purge, a three-part series hosted by Tucker Carlson. The special—which ran on Fox's subscription streaming service earlier this month and was promoted on Fox News—is presented in the style of an exposé, a hard-hitting piece of investigative journalism. In reality, it is a collection of incoherent conspiracy-mongering, riddled with factual inaccuracies, half-truths, deceptive imagery, and damning omissions. And its message is clear: The U.S. government is targeting patriotic Americans in the same manner —and with the same tools—that it used to target al Qaeda. Trailer for Tucker Carlson's Patriot Purge 0:27-1:06 Under the audio, there, are images of people being water-boarded, Afghanistan operations as well as images from the January 6 extravaganza. Hayes and Goldberg write: “This is not happening. And we think it's dangerous to pretend it is. If a person with such a platform shares such misinformation loud enough and long enough, there are Americans who will believe—and act upon—it. This isn't theoretical. This is what actually happened on January 6, 2021. Over the past five years, some of Fox's top opinion hosts amplified the false claims and bizarre narratives of Donald Trump or offered up their own in his service. In this sense, the release of Patriot Purge wasn't an isolated incident, it was merely the most egregious example of a longstanding trend. Patriot Purge creates an alternative history of January 6, contradicted not just by common sense, not just by the testimony and on-the-record statements of many participants, but by the reporting of the news division of Fox News itself.” While I really appreciated Goldberg's Liberal Fascists, and I still recommend it to you heartily, I'm beginning to wonder if Goldberg is one of those academics who can only spot the enemy safely behind the glass of several decades. This is the problem with many academics. They can do plenty of good historical work and careful analysis from the distance of time, but they cannot see clearly enough when the battle is right in front of them. And do not misunderstand me. I'm not endorsing the Tucker Carlson documentary. I haven't seen it. But I find it utterly baffling to completely dismiss it as “a collection of incoherent conspiracy-mongering.” And if they are so sure that it is, could they at least be so kind as to point us to some of easy-peasy explainers we could send to our grandmothers? There absolutely is surface plausibility to the thought that in the eyes of the Left, conservative Christians are the new target. Merrick Garland's designation of parents protesting at school board meetings as domestic terrorists is not conspiracy mongering. Also, even if there's no united conspiracy, Christians know that the spirit of the age, the spirit of unbelief hates God, hates the truth, and loves violence, and that spirit is at work. It need not be in a central office in Buffalo. And I have no problem with anyone pointing out facts or narratives that Tucker has gotten wrong. Let the truth out. Bienvenido a La Wikly. This is a public episode.
