Impostor Syndrome is something most of us struggle with, and people who are conscientious and have high standards of performance and achievement - like introverts and quiet achievers - seem to struggle with it more. Even outwardly successful individuals have admitted to having Impostor Syndrome at some point in their career. On days when your energy is flat, your mood is low, and you're unable for whatever reason to believe that you are wise and capable and competent, I want to share a simple tip I learned, that you can put into practice straight off listening to this episode. It's called having a Smile File (credit to Thea Orozco for the first time I heard the term). In short, it's collating and documenting evidence of your competence every time you receive some kind of external validation e.g. a text message of thanks from someone you helped, a client testimonial, a 5- star Google review of your services or podcast, someone resharing your LinkedIn post.Any time you are recognized by someone for being yourself or some positive difference you made, take a screenshot and add it to your Smile File.Listen in to find out what else you must do to solidify and embody this empowered version of you, that was inside you all along. If you enjoyed this episode, please rate and review The Quiet Warrior Podcast on your listening app. Your support helps inspire more introverts and quiet achievers in our communities.Connect with Serena:Subscribe to The Visible Introvert newsletter for weekly tips and stories of how to amplify your quiet strengths without having to act extroverted.Join me on LinkedIn where I actively share empowering ways to show up professionally and socially as my highest introverted self. This episode was edited by Aura House Productions

There's a lot to love about being an introvert. We often have rich inner lives and thrive in solitary pursuits, and we also like people. We're also often creative and introspective. In a world where introversion is often misunderstood, it can be difficult to celebrate our gifts and strengths as introverts. But by embracing who we are, we can find great satisfaction and happiness in our lives. Let's celebrate introversion!  Let's get to know our strengths and needs.  Let's bust myths such as introversion is shyness or that introverts don't like people. You have great gifts!  Do you know what they are?  Are you using them?  Are you known for them? Be proud!  Celebrate who you are!Through this podcast, I've had the opportunity to meet so many amazing introverts. Some are introvert coaches and authors, some are successful professionals that have learned to embrace their introversion. And as an introvert, I have such an amazing time having these deep one-on-one conversations with these incredible individuals and making these connections. We talk about strengths, needs, strategies for success, and even do some myth-busting. I ask every guest to share their own introverted strengths or superpower or what they have also seen in others.  Here are links to the original episodes from today's featured clips: Terrance Lee, Sophie Morris, Steve Friedman, Matt Johnson, Tracy Guillet, Thea Orozco, Kristy Vail, Victoria Lioznyansky, Stacey Roshan, Matthew Pollard, Julia Beauchamp Kraft.Contact the host of the Quiet and Strong Podcast:David HallAuthor, Speaker, Educator, Podcasterquietandstrong.comGobio.link/quietandstrongdavid@quietandstrong.comTake the FREE Personality Assessment:Typefinder Personality AssessmentFollow David on your favorite social platform:Twitter | Facebook | Instagram | LinkedInGet David's book: Minding Your Time: Time Management, Productivity, and Success, Especially for IntrovertsYou may also like:Quiet & Strong Merchandise

In the previous part of Serenity in the Trenches, we identified the signs that tell us we need to recharge our batteries. In this episode we think about the practical side of refuelling the tank. What are your go-to sources of self-care and rest? Retreating This is a word that comes up a lot. Carina Nickerson mentions it, and I've had some lovely discussions with Laurie Helgoe about the importance of it for introverts. At its core, "retreating allows us to move away from the din of outside stimulation and to adopt a more natural and authentic rhythm." Laurie goes on to say that, "for introverts, retreating is more than a movement away. It is a compelling pull toward. In the quiet space of a retreat, we dream, we hear the voice within, we can remember what we love, notice what we have, and envision what we want." This is such a beautiful reminder that 'retreat' isn't simply an escape from all that is bad. It is a movement towards all that is good. And as introverts it is of paramount importance because the din of the world 'out there' can drown out that quietly creative voice within. Laurie points out, "because introverts are so mentally "absorbent," the concerns and wishes of others too easily displace our own. Though we love to make sense of everything in our worlds, doing so becomes taxing. We need to refuel." And this is where rest, self-care, and retreat all come in. Retreat Towards, Not Away From In this part of Serenity in the Trenches we explore the go-to sources of refuelling the tank. Self-care has become a slightly trite phrase used to sell bath salts and chocolate. But this fails to appreciate the more transformational and foundational aspects of its true meaning in our lives. We hear from all 23 contributors about the importance of taking this seriously. And they share their struggles and successes with their own 'retreat towards' practices. Alice Southern, Beth Buelow, Boom Shikha, Cameron Airen, Carina Nickerson, Cat Rose, Jacob Nordby, Jacquelyn Strickland, Jim Woods, Jennifer Kahnweiler, Josie George, Lauren Sapala, Leah Burkhart, Mark Pierce, Michaela Chung, Nancy Ancowitz, Neil Hughes, Sarah Kuhn, Sarah Santacroce, Thea Orozco, Tracy Cooper, Tracy Guillet, Tuula Ahde Healthy Retreat Laurie suggests that "we need both, personal and collective retreats. A solo retreat gets us up close and personal with ourselves, which can expose vulnerabilities as well as desires." This is the bedrock of a life that carries meaning and joy. We've got to go inwards and explore the depths of our biggest dreams, hopes, and fears, so that we can design a life that reflects all of us. This is not a one time event, but happens over time, step by step, moment by moment. Laurie warns against placing all the pressure on a one-off retreat. "Maybe the bed is too hard, or the mosquitos are hungry, or you discover difficult emotions you've neglected. We are better able to mindfully accept such experiences when we have an attitude of discovery. And we foster this attitude when we make retreating a practice -- a renewable resource. So we have the annual or semi-annual or quarterly retreat away, but we also take ourselves on regular "dates" and walks and into favorite hideouts on a regular basis." Regular Retreating The contributors explore how they structure their own regular retreats. There are many similar themes that emerge, but also plenty of differences in what works for each of them. And this is an important thing to remember. We get to craft this for ourselves. It's not a situation where we can paint by numbers. We can't copy what someone else has found useful, believing that it is the magic bullet. Always be skeptical about anyone who positions themselves as a guru or the person with 'THE way' to the secret, answer, solution etc. Life is an experiment. It's our canvas to paint. And we get to be a part of the process of design and crafting.

In this week's episode of the Creative Introvert podcast I talk to Thea Orozco of Introvertology. Thea started Introvertology four years ago, after talking to two frustrated people on Twitter who had been comparing themselves to others and feeling broken. It was clear to her that they weren't broken, they were one of the 50% of the US population whose strengths aren't shouted from the rooftops. After working for a time as a life coach for introverts, Thea realised that she got a kick out of helping her entrepreneur clients. She also noticed a pattern with introverted entrepreneurs and thought leaders – that many of them couldn't grow their business because they were approaching social media marketing like an extrovert, so they felt overwhelmed and burnt out and with a huge case of imposter syndrome. So now she's here, helping introverted entrepreneurs make a difference in this world by authentically sharing their products and gifts and knowledge and ideas.   What we discussed: Feeling weird and broken as an introvert Are personally type tests helpful or harmful How our to deal with the negative stories we tell ourselves How the inner work is just as important as the outer work Transferring confidence from one area of your life to another Biggest challenges introverts face in business The problem with being a multipotentialite How to go to a conference and manage your energy How to overcome fear of the camera and embrace video content   Links: Is Myers-Briggs BS?
