Episode Summary: How does an introvert stand their ground during conflict, earn the trust of senior executives, and become the go-to person in a corporate environment? In this episode, Anthony Kuo shares his transition from a promising but unsatisfying career in corporate America to becoming a career satisfaction coach. He shares candidly about the challenges faced by introverts in the workplace and how they can leverage their unique strengths to succeed without compromising their true nature.Key Points:How being in a minority group at school affects one's identity and sense of belonging:School can be hard when you're not one of the majority. When you realize that you're different and not necessarily in a culturally acceptable way or a way that feels safe. When your friends had a language to talk to each other and you weren't a part of that, and didn't know the cultural references they were making.Challenges of being an Introvert in corporate America:Being technically proficient at the job, but realizing the need to be able to tell stories and persuade others to see your point of view.Being used to deferring to authority due to the hierarchical nature of Asian culture, and learning to speak up and assert yourself and stand your ground when questioned or challenged by more senior executives.Leveraging Expertise and Building Trust:Gaining trust and influence in the workplace through personal reputation, the ability to tell compelling stories with data, and the ability to hold space and demonstrate empathy for multiple points of view.Career Satisfaction:Career satisfaction is about using your personality at work and having your personality and all of its quirks and wonderful uniqueness be engaged, appreciated, and valued at work.Career satisfaction is about figuring out what it takes for you to thrive.30% of the time, what employees are looking for is accessible exactly where they are - they just have to reach for it.Quitting is not always the solution - career change is stressful and expensive. Most of the time, career dissatisfaction is because a part of you is craving change, and another part of you really values something that is being provided through your current role. Identify what it is you value.Advice for someone who is not satisfied with their career right now:Listen to your dissatisfaction. Pay attention. Get curious.Ask yourself: what is it that you are not getting, what is keeping you here, what is it exactly that you enjoy. How to Connect with Anthony Kuo:Website: UntamedCareer.comSocial Media: @UntamedCareer on Facebook, LinkedIn, InstagramNext Steps:If you enjoyed this episode and found Anthony Kuo's insights helpful, please take 30 seconds to scroll down to the “Write a review” section on your listening platform, rate it, and share one thing you learned. If you are an introverted professional or business owner who wants to get known, but something is holding you back from putting yourself out there, I am hosting a FREE online workshop on Thursday 5 September 7-8pm AEST (Melbourne) in collaboration with Wyndham Learning Festival: BOOST YOUR WORK VISIBILITY: 3 ESSENTIAL TIPS FOR INTROVERTS AND QUIET ACHIEVERSRegister at the link below, and a Zoom invite will be emailed to you before the workshop. https://www.wynlearnfestival.org.au/event/grow-your-visability-aThis episode was edited by Aura House Productions

What's one of the most common catchphrases of people who are stuck?“I need more clarity!”If I have more clarity, I will know what the next step is. I will know what to do, and I will know how to go about doing it.That's what I thought and did for decades.Until I realized I'd got the order wrong.Clarity comes after you take action. It is only when we move towards our goal in faith, in trust, not in a passive way, but in an active, trusting way, faithful, full of faith, believing that magic can happen, that clarity reveals itself. We do ourselves a disservice when we need to have everything lined up in order, perfectly laid out in sequence so that we can step elegantly from one stepping stone to the next, because life is not linear and transformation is not linear It comes when we least expect it, but it also comes when we prepare for it. The important thing is to keep going, to keep discovering for yourself and keep exploring what else is out there. What can I learn today? Who can I be today? How do I want to show up today? And so there is this delicate dance that goes on between surrendering and trusting, and also taking inspired and consistent action every day. Here's how I can support you further:Book a Quick Win coaching session and solve a specific problem in under an hourMeet fellow introverts for specially curated outings in and around Melbourne: Quiet Women Circle (women-only) and Introverts Around the WorldGet introvert inspiration on instagram: @serenalow_quietwarriorcoach Find out how I help quiet achievers grow into Quiet WarriorsThis episode was edited by Aura House Productions

Feedback is a word that can trigger the overthinker in us, whether we're the one giving the feedback, or the one receiving it.Being asked to give feedback can feel like one more cognitive task to add to an already lengthy to-do list. But what if you could ask yourself a different question?Instead of “What's in it for me?”, try putting yourself in the shoes of the person asking for the feedback, and ask “What's in it for you?” I guarantee you'll feel differently.Being on the receiving end of feedback, whether positive or negative, can be challenging for the overthinker, the overachiever, the introvert. We take negative feedback as if it's a personal attack on our identity and values, which makes us feel discouraged, but then when the opposite happens and we are praised, we  doubt the sincerity of the one giving us positive feedback. There's a better way: to find the magical place beyond right and wrong, to stay neutral and detached, and be comfortable noticing what is happening, without making up a story about it.Here's how I can support you further:Schedule a virtual coffee chat on LinkedInMeet fellow introverts for outings in Melbourne: Quiet Women Circle (women-only) and Introverts Around the WorldFind fellow introverts on facebook: Global Introvert Network Get introvert-empowering tips on instagram: @serenalow_quietwarriorcoach This episode was edited by Aura House Productions

Is it possible to make small talk, meet new people, and network - as an introvert?Yes! You mean I don't have to be extroverted? No!Episode highlights:Learn to do it your way, by honouring your values, energy and personality. When you start from the premise that there is nothing wrong with you and that you are simply wired differently, it becomes easier to do those things without depleting yourself or pretending to be someone you're not.Be more of yourself, not less. There are two parts to this process. The first part is the “Doing”: what must I do  to get better at the skills of conversation, what to say, how to say it, when to say it. The other part is the inner work, the “Being”: creating the identity we want to hold in this season of life. Who am I? Who do I want to be? Who do I want to serve? What do I care most about? If you're looking for ways to increase your happiness, I encourage you to listen to this episode. Fiona Redding, founder of The Happiness Hunter and host of The Happiness Hunter Podcast, shares some valuable insights that can help you create a happier life for yourself. What is happiness Happiness is "the feeling of being content and fulfilled". Happiness is not something that happens to us, but something that we create for ourselves. Why we find it so hard to stay in the present moment Our minds are constantly racing, thinking about the past or the future. This makes it difficult to be present and enjoy the moment. Our higher self, our lower self, and the role of the ego The higher self is our true essence, the part of us that is connected to love, joy, and peace. The lower self is the part of us that is driven by fear, anger, and ego.Why we need to accept and forgive past wrongs and hurts done to us.We can't move on with our lives if we're holding on to anger and resentment from the past. We forgive those who have hurt us, so that we can free ourselves from the pain of the past.We have a choice to not let our old stories define our present and our future We all have stories about ourselves that we tell ourselves. These stories can be limiting and keep us from living our best lives. Let's challenge our old stories and choose to create a new story for ourselves. The real reason we set goals is to become the kind of person who can achieve them When we set goals, we're not just setting out to achieve something, we're also setting out to change ourselves. The real reason we set goals is to become the kind of person who can achieve them. How upgrading our identity enables us to take new actions that align with our new identity When we upgrade our identity, we're essentially changing the way we see ourselves. This change in identity allows us to take new actions that are aligned with our new identity. The difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation  Intrinsic motivation is when we do something because we enjoy it or because we believe in it. Extrinsic motivation is when we do something because we're trying to get something in return. Intrinsic motivation is the most powerful kind of motivation. How caring for ourselves makes it possible to care for others too We can't pour from an empty cup. Let's take care of ourselves so that we have the energy to care for others. How to have a conversation with our children when there is a communication breakdown Fiona shares some tips on how to have a conversation with our children when there is a communication breakdown. She says that it's important to listen to our children without judgment and to try to understand their perspective. How to make amends when relationships break down It's never too late to apologize and try to repair a relationship. How The Happiness Hunter walks started from the principle of reciprocity. The principle of reciprocity is the idea that we tend to be more generous and kind to others when we've been shown kindness ourselves. Her new book It Is Possible: what inspired it, where to get a copy, and why it's not your usual self-help book.
