Cat Rose Neligan materialized at the Virtual Alexandria to help us find that high weirdness, self-knowledge nexus that is the Daemon & Astrology. Are we hopelessly trapped under fate, or can our Higher Self, Guardian Angel, or Spirit Guide assist us in attaining cosmic liberation? She granted us an expansion of high-octane Gnosis from her book, Discovering Your Personal Daimon, and used the life and star charts of Philip K. Dick as a case study. And egregores, we talked about egregores a lot.Join the Virtual Alexandria AcademyThis is a partial show. What would you give to have a lifestyle that allowed you to “drop everything and have a swim” in the ocean any time the mood struck you? Cornwall painter TARA LEAVER has created that life for herself, finding inspiration in the sensory experience of being immersed in the “magical garden of wonders” in the cold Atlantic waters. A self-proclaimed introvert, Tara has created a “balance in constant motion” between creating her own fluid paintings and developing an online community for like-minded artists. But life was not always so easy-breezy for Tara. Tara candidly shares how she grappled with depression and how she found her way back to art making. Tara acknowledges that her personal struggles have better enabled her to manage her own art “demons” while helping other artists tackle their own. An equally talented writer, Tara's considerate wisdom provides guidance and reassurance to her Happy Artist community.Find Tara:Tara's Art Website: taraleaverart.comHappy Artist Studio (artist membership) happyartiststudio.comInstagram: @taraleaverart Pinterest: www.pinterest.com/taraleaverMentioned:Happy Artist Studio, membership art courses (explore) Olympus Tough TG-6 Waterproof Camera (shop)The Creative Introvert: How to Build a Business You Love, by Cat Rose (read) Byre Gallery, Sea Level exhibit, Cornwall, UK (explore) Find Me, Kristy Darnell Battani:Website: https://www.kristybattani.comInstagram: kristybattaniartFacebook: kristybattaniartDid you enjoy this episode? Today I'm sitting down with Cat Rose to discuss whether our fate can improve, and if so, what can astrology tell us about that fate.
Have you ever struggled with finding your true calling? Maybe you've worked in a career that just wasn't suited to you? Or maybe there's something that lights you up that you feel led to do, but you're unsure if it's even a viable plan? My most recent podcast guest, Cat Rose Neligan, said, “Being an introvert isn't an excuse not to live your best life.” Cat is an astrologer, writer, coach INTJ, and creative introvert who is dedicated to helping others find their true calling. Cat's fascination with astrology began as an extension of her interest in personality typology. She soon found out the study of the stars had much, much more to offer, and has been learning as much as she can ever since. Cat now incorporates astrology into her work coaching creative introverts, helping artists, writers, musicians and all kinds of creatives to better understand themselves, identify their calling, and share their work with the world. Join us for an episode where we dive into topics like introversion (and the challenges it brings in business), astrology and how to use it as a tool to improve your life, mercury retrograde, and Saturn returns. What is the daimon/daemon, and can it work for your higher purpose and better life? The answer is yes, especially with the right astrological, meditative, magical, or psychological tools. The daimon has guided many significant historical figures, including Socrates, Plotinus, Blake, Goethe, PKD, and Jesus (Gnostic view). Beyond gaining the eldritch tech to access our daimon, we journey through history to understand its presence, from Chaldean magicians to Neoplatonic sages, from Arabic mysticism to Thelema.Astral Guests – Cat Rose Neligan, author of Discovering Your Personal Daimon. This is a partial show. In this episode, I am joined by astrologer, author, and artist Cat Rose Neligan. Cat incorporates astrology into her work coaching small business owners, helping artists, writers, musicians and all kinds of creatives to better understand themselves, identify their calling, and share their work with the world. Cat and I discuss the personal daimon, a tutelary spirit with a long and varied history. Some associate it with the holy guardian angel, some with a protector spirit, but Cat has found that the personal daimon is perhaps more strongly connected with guiding us toward our destiny than anything else. She discusses methods of both contacting and working with your daimon, the daimon's astrological associations, and other related topics. Many listeners will be familiar with various aspects of this topic already. Socrates, for instance, is famous for having a daimon that spoke to him. Many of us have experimented with the techniques of the Book of Abramelin or the teachings of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Even the various helper spirit rituals of the Greek Magical Papyri might be related to this topic. Cat's work with the personal daimon has led to a book! If you are interested in this book, check out the Kickstarter campaign and lend your support! The campaign runs through October 31, 2021. We have woken up to a simple yet profound truth... Everything and everyone is connected. These are extraordinary times. I've just returned from my 'one form of daily outdoor exercise'. And I write this, locked down at home, during a global pandemic. I never thought I'd write that sentence in a non-fiction context. Weird. It's all quite surreal. Moments like this bring all the things we take for granted into focus. And we gain clarity on the under-the-surface norms and ideologies that underpin our beliefs and values. The more we disconnect and physically isolate, the more we can see how connected we truly are. Everything impacts everything else. Emotions, information, and ideas spread like subsidiary metaphorical viruses from one person to the next. Markets crash when the proverbial butterfly wings flap gently on the other side of the world. And the image of a single shelf of empty toilet paper can lead to mass hysteria and global panic buying of something that wasn't a problem until it became a self-fulfilling prophesy. Everything is Connected In this month's podcast I decided to develop this theme of connection. So I connected with friends (some old and some new), and invited them to share some encouragement during this period of uncertainty and upheaval. It's turned into the longest episode I've ever produced. I had a great time putting it together, and am excited to share the lovely responses from my big hearted gentle rebel friends. I asked them two questions: 'how are you connecting right now?' And 'what does this make possible for you, for us, and for the world?' How are You Connecting Right Now? We are connecting with other people in different ways. We are connecting with new parts of ourselves. And we are connecting with aspects of society that have been inaccessible until now. We are Connecting With Others "It's wonderful to have this technology. In a time when we must physically distance, we don't actually have to socially distance." - Mark Pierce "Even though I'm an introvert, I know my limits. And I know that it can feel easy for me to go days without seeing anyone in person. But I still desperately need to connect with others. I need to be heard, and I need to hear others. And ideally I need to see them, even if it's just on video. I just need to remember that." - Cat Rose "I am connected more with my friends, and I even connect more with my family at home. Because we are doing things like playing games and spending time together which we don't often do." - Lydia Wilmsen "There have been moments of connection with strangers. Exchanging eye contact which says 'this is weird isn't it?' There's a moment of connection there. This shared loneliness is making it all a bit less lonely." - Neil Hughes "The family Zoom conference was such a rich experience for us. We laughed and reminded each other of how much we care. These digital tools can be used to continue spreading fear, static, and frustration in the world. Or it can provide a forum for laughter, where there's real connection." - Jacob Nordby We Can Connect With Ourselves "The world is slowing down. And it's really tangible. We can feel it. We're all part of this. We all contribute. And this global quiet is a result of all of us slowing down." - Ben Fizell "I'm connecting on the inside. I'm meditating and spending time doing inner work. And it's such an empowering feeling because I don't feel helpless or fearful. By going inwards, I feel as though I'm connecting with others in a telepathic sort of way." - Carol Chapman "We can begin listening out for patterns that show up inside us. A lot of panic and fear comes from other fears. Not just outer circumstances. It is stuff which is already in us. And right now we have more time to really look and go deep. This provides a huge potential for personal growth." - Lydia Wilmsen What Does This Make Possible?

In the previous part of Serenity in the Trenches, we identified the signs that tell us we need to recharge our batteries. In this episode we think about the practical side of refuelling the tank. What are your go-to sources of self-care and rest? Retreating This is a word that comes up a lot. Carina Nickerson mentions it, and I've had some lovely discussions with Laurie Helgoe about the importance of it for introverts. At its core, "retreating allows us to move away from the din of outside stimulation and to adopt a more natural and authentic rhythm." Laurie goes on to say that, "for introverts, retreating is more than a movement away. It is a compelling pull toward. In the quiet space of a retreat, we dream, we hear the voice within, we can remember what we love, notice what we have, and envision what we want." This is such a beautiful reminder that 'retreat' isn't simply an escape from all that is bad. It is a movement towards all that is good. And as introverts it is of paramount importance because the din of the world 'out there' can drown out that quietly creative voice within. Laurie points out, "because introverts are so mentally "absorbent," the concerns and wishes of others too easily displace our own. Though we love to make sense of everything in our worlds, doing so becomes taxing. We need to refuel." And this is where rest, self-care, and retreat all come in. Retreat Towards, Not Away From In this part of Serenity in the Trenches we explore the go-to sources of refuelling the tank. Self-care has become a slightly trite phrase used to sell bath salts and chocolate. But this fails to appreciate the more transformational and foundational aspects of its true meaning in our lives. We hear from all 23 contributors about the importance of taking this seriously. And they share their struggles and successes with their own 'retreat towards' practices. Alice Southern, Beth Buelow, Boom Shikha, Cameron Airen, Carina Nickerson, Cat Rose, Jacob Nordby, Jacquelyn Strickland, Jim Woods, Jennifer Kahnweiler, Josie George, Lauren Sapala, Leah Burkhart, Mark Pierce, Michaela Chung, Nancy Ancowitz, Neil Hughes, Sarah Kuhn, Sarah Santacroce, Thea Orozco, Tracy Cooper, Tracy Guillet, Tuula Ahde Healthy Retreat Laurie suggests that "we need both, personal and collective retreats. A solo retreat gets us up close and personal with ourselves, which can expose vulnerabilities as well as desires." This is the bedrock of a life that carries meaning and joy. We've got to go inwards and explore the depths of our biggest dreams, hopes, and fears, so that we can design a life that reflects all of us. This is not a one time event, but happens over time, step by step, moment by moment. Laurie warns against placing all the pressure on a one-off retreat. "Maybe the bed is too hard, or the mosquitos are hungry, or you discover difficult emotions you've neglected. We are better able to mindfully accept such experiences when we have an attitude of discovery. And we foster this attitude when we make retreating a practice -- a renewable resource. So we have the annual or semi-annual or quarterly retreat away, but we also take ourselves on regular "dates" and walks and into favorite hideouts on a regular basis." Regular Retreating The contributors explore how they structure their own regular retreats. There are many similar themes that emerge, but also plenty of differences in what works for each of them. And this is an important thing to remember. We get to craft this for ourselves. It's not a situation where we can paint by numbers. We can't copy what someone else has found useful, believing that it is the magic bullet. Always be skeptical about anyone who positions themselves as a guru or the person with 'THE way' to the secret, answer, solution etc. Life is an experiment. It's our canvas to paint. And we get to be a part of the process of design and crafting.

Cat Rose, founder of The Creative Introvert talks about what introversion is and some of the misconceptions that people have about introversion. Being an introvert does not mean that you are shy, socially awkward and lock yourself away all day. As a fellow introvert Cat and I share ways that we manage our preference for introversion and how we get over our natural tendencies to show up for the things that are important for us. This is a great episode for you to listen to if you already know that you are an introvert or you suspect that you might be. And it’s also useful listening for the extraverts of the world to help them understand how the mind of an introvert works.

We all have an introvert within us. And introverts have super powers. Yet introversion is not an excuse to not be both sociable and creative. According to founder of the League of Creative Introverts community, Cat Rose Neligan it’s all about energy quotas, mindset and surrounding yourself with the right people. In this chat, blogger and podcaster, Cat Rose, shares with us what it’s like to be an introvert in a seemingly extrovert world. Soon to launch her new academy for creative and introvert oriented types, you’ll hear how Cat pushed herself out of her comfort zone with her “year of fun.” Learn how energy quotas and the right people help you to become more super-human. And why you don’t need to follow the crowd (particularly when it comes to creating the life and business or work that you want…) http://www.creativeintrovert.com/ http://www.inspirationalcreatives.com/podcast/257-cat-rose-neligan

In this podcast, Cat Rose talks to Gerry Thompson about the creative process, problem-solving, spontaneity and being funny. As a child in Ireland, Gerry Thompson was painfully shy and terrified of being ridiculed. What he realised from a young age is that if he made people laugh, then maybe it wouldn't be so hard. Gerry quit a burgeoning career in architecture to become a stand-up comedian, trainer, coach, international speaker and best-selling author with half a million books sold worldwide in many languages. His workshops and training sessions are revered for demonstrating how just a little bit of creativity, self-awareness and spontaneity can solve pretty much any professional challenge. --- Useful links: www.positivecomedy.com You will find more ideas and discussion about critical decision-making on topics as wide-ranging as big data, music, pre-school education, virtual reality and international aid at alwayspossible.co.uk/podcasts always possible has a range of services to help power brilliant decision-making in business, culture and education. In this session, Cat Rose chairs a conversation about how to run a values-led business (without wearing your heart on your sleeve) and what that actually means. How do small businesses retain their values as they get bigger - or bought out by larger firms? Does shouting about your values give you a competitive edge, or make you appear pompous? Are core values the driver for progressive organisations wherever you go, or are cities with large numbers of social enterprises and values-led campaigns - like Brighton and Bristol - operating in a liberal bubble that the rest of the country simply doesn't care about? Are values political? And are they absolutely critical or just nice to have? Joining Cat are Tracey Allen, founder and director of Sea PR - a communications agency specialising in socially-driven businesses; Lisa Westbury, a leadership development coach who mainly focuses on helping female entrepreneurs and executives break through the glass ceiling; Hesan Yousif, founder of Zazara Consulting - an IT support business with a very strong community agenda; and Sarah Nicolls - a musician, academic and inventor. --- Useful links: http://www.brilliantminds.co.uk/news/the-scarf-model http://www.sea-pr.com/ http://www.lisawestbury.com/ http://www.zazaraconsulting.co.uk/ --- If you enjoyed the conversation it would mean the world to us if you'd leave a review on iTunes. This past weekend's fun was actually pre-planned, it did not come from the almighty Jar of Fun... It was a trip to Oviedo, a city in Northwest Spain. You might wonder, why not Madrid or Barcelona? A more stereotypical choice for the weekend escapist Brit? Well, here's a fun fact for you: I love obscure places. I love that tourists are a novelty there. I love that you're forced to speak the local tongue. I love that the flights & Airbnb are dirt cheap. So, my thoughts on Oviedo? First thing I noticed was how super-duper clean it was... almost German in it's tidiness. It was also the friendliest city I've been to, and not just in Spain... possibly anywhere ever. Japan comes a close second, but the formality tended to put me on edge. Here, these Spaniards treated me like a curious cousin; not a local but not a scumbag tourist without a word of Spanish (which I was.) The Airbnb was pleasant enough - and I even got the local delicacy each morning for breakfast. Cake! Apparently cake for breakfast is a quite typical Spanish custom. Which also happens to rank VERY highly on my idea of FUN. And when you think about it, eating sugar and refined carbs for breakfast is still what the majority of the UK does - just in the form of toast and jam or cereal, rather than delicious homemade cinnamon cake... I was also conveniently located next to the best coffee shop in town, (Noor coffee, if you're ever in the neighbourhood) where I found the only fluent English speaker in town too. Oh and I love love LOVE how everyone serves a snack with your drink: from mini-croissants to churros to a tuna empanada. All that for €1.50... crazy when I come back to Brighton and pay £3.50 for a coffee that comes with no side snack. Oh and this area of Spain is also very famous for its cider. I'm not usually a big solo boozer, but I had to go to a local Sideria just to do as locals do. I found a particularly bustling one where I plonked myself next to an older couple. I ordered my cider, and was fairly surprised to say the least, that it came in a bottle the size of a wine-bottle, and at 6% I knew this wasn't your typical Magners we get over here. Then the fun began. There is, apparently, a very particular way this cider is served. I can't demonstrate it without gesturing, so I'll point to a visual demonstration: The other fun part was the custom for consuming the drink. Ideally, you down it. Yep, each time your waiter/personal barman serves you from your giant bottle, you down what he gives you - all in one. At least that's what I think the couple next to me were trying to tell me. Otherwise, I just looked like another Brit trying to get as pissed as possible, in the name of tradition. Needless to say I didn't get much done after that. Other fun activities were sightseeing. I'll admit there wasn't that much in terms of breathtaking sights - Gaudi didn't make it to Asturias I guess - but there were some great little statues dotted around, including one of Woody Allen, because Oviedo is said to be his favourite Spanish city. Obscure Spanish city adventure day #1! Things got interesting when I went to explore the local bevy of choice: cider. And got told about the precise way it's served and consumed... Will explain it all in Thursdays podcast!

These interviews and conversations give a glimpse into some of the people we have been working with at always possible, some of the brilliant organisations we have been championing and some of the latest thinking in leadership, creativity and learning. In this podcast Cat Rose has a conversation with Katherine Swift about matcha green tea and how some devastating news lead to the development of an award-winning business as well as new research into the effects of ageing and biological health. Katherine Swift had a successful career in media sales, promotions and event management having worked for The Guardian Media Group, Capital Radio Group and BT amongst others, when one day her mother revealed a diagnosis for stage 3 breast cancer. Rather than be crushed by this, the situation became a catalyst for Katherine to help her mother fight the disease, to devote her life to the study of age relate decline, and significantly to the manufacture and promotion of matcha green tea - a powdered form of green tea from Japan that clinical trials have proven to have profound positive effects on health, wellbeing and the effects of ageing, if properly prepared. The fact that Katherine's mother battled the illness and won is thought to be in no small part to this unusual and complex drink. Katherine went on to become founder and CEO of Naturem and OMGTeas, a small ethical business that sells matcha green tea across the UK and Europe as well as establishing the Healthy Life Foundation, a charity which funds genetic and cell biology research into age-related illness. The business is rapidly growing, with endorsements from leading health professionals and sportspeople alike.

Cat Rose is on a mission to help other creatives to get over their fears of self-promotion and to get their work seen and shared. She does this through 1-to-1 coaching and an online members community called the League of Creative Introverts. It's a safe, quiet space for creatives to share their work openly, learn from others and get all the support they need on their journey. Cat, first of all thank you for coming on the show, I wanted to let you start out by expounding upon that intro and really getting into what your kind-of personal mission is and what your mission is with the League of Creative Introverts. Full shownotes: http://yourcreativepush.com/172 In this episode, Cat discusses: -How The League of Creative Introverts started and her mission behind it. -How many creative introverts might be comfortable creating their work, but sharing and promoting it is very difficult for them to do. -Some of the “icky subjects” that she helps people to think about. -The value of being able to commiserate and work through problems with other people and to realize that you aren’t alone with your creative shyness. -Why people squirm so much at the thought of self-promotion. -The power in finding your niche. -Understanding the different types of fear and realizing that the fear of self-promotion isn’t the same fear of potential death. -The difference between “dipping your toes” and “diving in.” -Dealing with the fact that you are going to not be good at something when you first start. -The gulf that sometimes exists between our “online self” and our “real self.” -Dealing with the inner critic and imposter syndrome.” -Reasons why you might not be reaching your creative goals. -Breaking your goals down into daily metrics and then evaluating yourself on a 1-5 scale. Cat's Final Push will inspire to realize that ACTUALLY, YOU CAN! Quotes: “Doing the work wasn’t actually the biggest struggle. It was getting people to see it.” “Your audience finds you in a way.” “It’s really hard for our ego to take the fact that we are going to suck when we first start something. Can I take that initial “sucking” for the long-term benefit of actually being pretty good at something?” “It takes a lot of guts to say what we are or what we aspire to be. Hi there and welcome to episode 22 of Couragemakers! This week I'm chatting to the lovely Cat Rose. I met Cat over Twitter and got the chance to catch up with her over a coffee in London a couple of months ago and I'm so excited to share this episode. Cat is on a mission to help other creatives get over their fears of self-promotion and get their work seen and shared. She is a coach and founded the League of Creative Introverts: a safe community for creatives to share their work openly, learn from others and get all the support they need on their creative journey. During our conversation, Cat shares her journey from working as a graphic designer, going to Japan and starting the League of Creative Introverts, how she deals with rejection as a creative and how we as creatives can learn to talk about our work. We really dive into the link between being a creative and being an introvert, the turmoil introverts face and Cat shares some great advice about how to set goals as a multi-passionate person. This episode is great if you're a creative and a multi-passionate person and you struggle to tell the difference between resistance and fear, if you struggle to prioritise lots of projects you want to do and if you want practical advice on how to get your art out there and start talking about you work. As a related aside, Cat is going to be holding a really fun one month long summer bootcamp for creative introverts starting in August, called Get Your Art Out! Each week will explore a different theme to help creatives to get their art out. I'm really happy to be featured as an expert camp counsellor during one of the modules, talking all about comparisonitis and how you can overcome your self doubt and put your work out in the world. If you're interested in the summer bootcamp, you can find the details over at thecreativeintrovert.com and Cat has been lovely enough to give Couragemaker listeners a 25% discount with the code MEG25. This is a really great episode and if you're anything like me, you'll be making notes during this one! Enjoy the show! You wouldn't think that the host of an audio show, a person who interviews a range of interesting characters on a weekly basis would have any self-confidence issues. But I can tell you, each time I pick up the phone to call a prospective client, or head for a meeting in the city, I face a familiar wave of adrenaline, a tiny panic during which I doubt myself heavily. Despite those moments of crisis, admittedly, I am a social person, I thrive on meeting others and making new contacts all the time, but we all sit somewhere different on the introvert/extrovert spectrum of personalities. Much is made of the need to beat on doors until they open, revealing new opportunities, to attain any degree of success in the creative industries. But Cat Rose admits she is an introvert and begs to differ. She launched The Creative Introvert platform to bring together the quieter personalities and joins me to discuss the many upsides to a introverted personality, ways to own it and the finer details of self confidence.
