105. How sales people can overcome impostor syndrome - with Markus Neukom

Practical Leadership Podcast

In this deeply personal and powerfully practical episode, I sit down with legacy alchemist Markus Neukom to unpick the roots of imposter syndrome and its impact on sales leaders and high performers. What starts as a conversation about doubt quickly becomes a masterclass in authenticity, identity, and learning how to lead from your core. We explore how imposter syndrome isn't the real problem – it's a symptom of something much deeper: an authenticity struggle. Markus shares his own experience of burnout and depression, and how facing it helped him rediscover his mission and reshape how he helps leaders thrive. If you've ever questioned your own worth, wondered why success doesn't feel like success, or felt like you're “winging it” at the next level — this episode is for you. How to overcome imposter syndrome by reclaiming your authentic self  Imposter syndrome is not the issue – It's a trick. The real challenge is an authenticity struggle – not knowing who you really are. You are not what others reflect – Most people define themselves based on external feedback, not internal truth. Flip that. Deconstruct your past wins – Look at moments of true success and unpack what really made them work. That's where your core value lives. Know thyself – Until you do, you're reacting to the world instead of being rooted in it. Self-awareness is the real superpower. Don't wait to live your legacy – You don't need to “leave” a legacy when you can live one every single day. Timeline summary [01:12] – “I don't teach anything I haven't experienced”: Markus on walking the talk [04:55] – The moment depression hit and what it revealed about imposter syndrome [07:10] – Why your self-confidence is built on a lie (and how to rebuild it for real) [10:13] – Crabs, fleas and elephants: the brutal psychology of human conditioning [14:46] – Identity that can't be taken from you: how to build confidence that lasts [19:05] – The question every leader must ask: Is this as good as it gets? [23:44] – A practical tool: how to reconstruct your own success stories to reconnect with your value [26:02] – “Imposter syndrome is a compliment” – what it really means when it shows up [27:26] – “If you can dream it, you can do it”: how to crash through the veil and operate in full freedom Links & resources

In this episode of Take Charge of Your Health, co-hosts Corinne Furnari and Carol Petersen, delve into the misunderstood world of histamine intolerance—a condition often misdiagnosed as a typical allergy. They explain that histamine, a natural compound involved in immune responses and inflammation, can trigger a wide array of symptoms when it accumulates in excess. The hosts outline how histamine intolerance affects multiple systems in the body, leading to symptoms that mimic allergies, such as rashes, headaches, digestive issues, and fatigue. They discuss how the elimination diet remains the most effective diagnostic tool, and they explore a range of holistic and conventional treatment options. Key approaches include balancing hormones (notably progesterone), supporting detoxification pathways with B vitamins and vitamin C, and introducing certain probiotics that help break down histamine. The episode also highlights foods to avoid—like aged cheeses, fermented products, and alcohol—and offers guidance on foods that support a low-histamine diet. Emphasizing root-cause healing over symptom suppression, Furnari and Petersen advocate for a functional approach to restoring histamine balance and overall health.

If you've ever achieved everything you were “supposed to” and still wondered, Is this all there is? This episode is for you.   In this episode of Sharkpreneur, Seth Greene interviews Markus Neukom, a Leadership Executive Coach & Business Strategist, who is an executive mentor and transformational guide who helps high achievers break through impostor syndrome, reconnect with purpose, and live their legacy in the present, not just leave one behind. After years as a business consultant and coach, Markus shares that most success-driven individuals don't need more strategies—they need to reconnect with who they really are. His process, rooted in what he calls stillness, helps clients remove the noise of expectations and rediscover their original design—so they can operate from coherence, not confusion.   Key Takeaways: → The core difference between silence and stillness. → What it means to live your legacy now, not just leave one behind. → How high performers can lose purpose after massive success. → The danger of misdiagnosing your own challenges. → What stillness reveals that meditation can't.   Markus Neukom is a leadership executive coach, business strategist, and former HR executive. With over twenty years of experience, Markus specializes in helping tech leaders, board members, and venture capitalists who feel "stuck" to move beyond technical skills into decisive, visionary leadership. His coaching programs, especially his L.E.A.P.S. Leadership Playbook, have helped many leaders overcome imposter syndrome, grow their businesses, and build transformative cultures.   Connect With Markus: Instagram Facebook LinkedIn   Learn more about your ad choices. “My limiting belief told me I was limited in the outpatient world. But the truth is, I was already several steps ahead of most people, and that's enough.” - Dr. Amanda ThompsonBurnout is everywhere in healthcare right now. Productivity standards are climbing, providers are stretched to their limits, and rural areas in particular are left patching together care with minimal resources. For many practitioners, the dream of doing integrative, patient-centered work is in their grasp, but imposter syndrome keeps them small. This is your call to action because your help is desperately needed.Physical therapists, OTs, dietitians, nurses, and other allied health professionals are uniquely positioned to transform care in rural and underserved areas. By stepping outside the narrow definitions of rehab and embracing coaching, nutrition, nervous system regulation, and lifestyle medicine, we can become the cornerstones of our clients' health teams. When we lead with active listening and root-cause thinking, we're not just treating symptoms, we're empowering whole people.Today, I'm joined by Dr. Amanda Thompson, a physical therapist and women's health coach who went from rural hospital burnout to founding Rooted Physical Therapy, her thriving ortho-pelvic PT clinic in North Texas. Along her journey, Amanda has overcome her limiting beliefs to build a functional and integrative practice in a rural setting. In this conversation, Amanda and I discuss how her own experiences with fertility struggles, perimenopause, and parenting shaped her clinical approach, how rural practitioners can leverage their “jack of all trades” skills to create lasting impact, the role of active listening in patient care, why pelvic health can't be siloed from nutrition or mental health, how to reframe imposter syndrome into confidence, and more.If you feel held back by burnout or the fear that you don't know enough, Amanda's story is an inspiring blueprint of how to break through.

In this episode, we talk about meeting stakeholders where they are, translating quality into the language of risk, cost and outcomes, and building trust through visible work and data. We also share practical ways to bring non-testers into the quality journey, from testathons to storytelling. What we coverGetting out of the testing echo chamber and speaking in terms others value, for example, risk, time, cost and customer impact. Why “finish testing by Friday” and pass or fail dashboards miss the point, and how to reframe around confidence and acceptable quality.Trusted advisor status is earned, not assumed, through consistent visibility and data that supports decisions.Using risk as a shared language, tying quality work to concrete mitigations that matter to stakeholders. The tension between flexibility and standards, and why some consistency helps credibility.Startups versus enterprises, common perceptions of testing, and how to counter “devs can do it all” or “cheap offshore scripts are enough”.Making the work visible: show outcomes, not just activities, and celebrate wins to build momentum.AI in quality, cautious optimism, and the importance of getting involved early so we help shape how it is used and tested.Practical ideas discussedRun regular testathons and paired exploratory sessions that include developers, product, customer support and leaders. Gary Sinise's stage, film and television career has spanned more than four decades. In 1974, at 18 years old, he co-founded Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company. 20 years later, for his performance as Lt Dan Taylor in Forrest Gump, he received nominations for Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Academy Awards, and earned the Best Supporting Actor Award from the National Board of Review and the Commander's Award from the Disabled American Veterans. Other film credits include Apollo 13, Ransom, Snake Eyes, Impostor, The Green Mile, Mission to Mars and The Human Stain. For over 40 years, Gary has stood as an advocate on behalf of America's service members. In 2003, after several USO handshake tours, he formed the “Lt. Dan Band” and began entertaining troops serving at home and abroad. Over the years, the 13-piece cover band has performed hundreds of shows for charities and fundraisers supporting wounded heroes, Gold Star families, veterans and troops around the world. In 2011, to expand upon his individual efforts, he established the Gary Sinise Foundation with the mission to serve and honor America's defenders, veterans, first responders, Gold Star families and those in need. The foundation remains committed to finding new and exciting ways to give back to those who sacrifice for our nation and encouraging others to do the same has become his personal quest and what he hopes will endure as a legacy of service to others. In 2008, he was given the Presidential Citizens Medal, the second-highest civilian honor awarded to citizens for exemplary deeds performed in service of the nation. He is only the third actor ever to receive this honor. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
