We all go through things in life where we have the best of intentions and wind up feeling the heat, when it seems that no one is there to join us or even have our back, and we realize we have stepped into something that really stinks and we don't want to do it anymore. We find ourselves suffering and we lack the endurance to keep going. It can be parenting, it can be a job, it can be a conversation with a friend, it can be marriage, it can be the decision to leave church, it can be the decision to come to church. And the thing is, in our lives and in these days, suffering is not going away. The question for the follower of Jesus is not how we can avoid suffering. If you are listening today hoping all your troubles will go away you will be disappointed. Ask the people around you. Following Jesus doesn't mean less suffering. It often means more...especially the more we look like Jesus. And the question followers of Jesus should be asking is not how we can avoid suffering but how we can learn to suffer well. Today Pastor Jason continues our sermon series FOLLOW in the Gospel of Mark, preaching a message titled The Example of Endurance.

Today Pastor Jason led us in the commemoration of Pentecost. This is typically thought of in relation to the Apostles in the upper room, when the tongues as of fire rested on them. But as in many things, we are given a dim foreshadowing in the Old Testament with the finalization in the New Testament. Join us as Pastor Jason moves from Numbers to Acts, and then into present day as to the gifts and power of the Holy Spirit, given to God's children. The Bible clearly speaks about the spiritual world, a world where angels and demons reside. A world that humans rarely get a glimpse into. But the Bible retells obvious encounters Jesus had with demons, and the demons knew exactly who Jesus was...and were terrified to be face to face with the Son of God. Today Pastor Jason covers just such a story found in the book of Luke, showing the accusation made, countered by the authority of God. The spiritual world is real, spiritual warfare is real, but we have nothing to fear as Jesus has authority over all of creation. Today Pastor Jason continued his look at the churches written to in the Revelation of John. Today's church is the church at Pergamum. Although the church as a whole was holding strong, there were some who were compromising what they believed, giving into temptation, lacking the self-control that is ours in Jesus. Pastor Jason once again, outlines the church described in Revelation and then applies it to us individually, and the church as a whole. Just as some in Pergamum gave into sin, we too can slide, or boldly walk into indulging our sinful desires. Pastor Jason tells us some things to look out for in order to keep our guard up, and how we can rest in Christ as the one that has already won the battles we wrestle with. Today Pastor Jason continues to look at the seven churches addressed in Revelation, turning his focus to the church at Smyrna, and the persecution they found themselves under as the jumping off point to speak to the state of the church today. Persecution can come from multiple sources and for multiple reasons. In fact as Christians and as a Christ following, Biblical church, persecution is almost assured. Jesus warned us about this. But what do we do with it? We are not called to hide away, put up barriers, lock ourselves in the basement to hope we can withstand as persecution passes by. No, God has purpose in everything, including persecution for His church and His children. Join Pastor Jason as he outlines the purposes for persecution and the Glory that even persecution can bring to God! Today Pastor Jason started a quick dive into the book of Revelation. Revelation is one of the most unique books in the Bible. John, under inspiration tells us that we should read this prophecy, that we should know this prophecy, and pronounces blessing on those that read, understand, and take the words of this prophecy to heart. It almost seems like we should...do that! Pastor Jason starts as the book does, with the letters to the seven churches. These are churches that existed in the past, but they're also letters to churches that exist today. The words of praise, warning, and condemnation apply as much to churches today as they did back then, so we should understand what was being said and act accordingly. Join us as we step into Revelation, starting with the letter to the church at Ephesus! Editor's Note: After a holiday spent with family and friends, I am now working on catching back up with the messages that have been given, but not uploaded. Over the course of this week I'll be working on catching up with both the podcast and YouTube videos, with the goal to be "back on schedule" by Sunday morning, January 17, 2021. Thank you for you patience! Happy New Year! Welcome to 2021! As was proven in 2020, we have no idea what this year may bring, but we can praise the Almighty, Sovereign God we have complete assurance that He is in control, and our hope lies not in the things of this world, but in Heavenly things, the things of God.Today Pastor Jason, as he does the beginning of every new year, read the church covenant (not included in this podcast), and asked the church to reaffirm their commitment to the language contained therein. He then transitioned into our covenant as Born Again Believers in Jesus, specifically one aspect of our covenant - Discipleship. To truly be a disciple of Christ, we must first be saved...and then after that, there are a few specific things we should strive to perfect over the course of our lives. To neglect the Pathway of Discipleship is to turn our backs on our Christian duties - which not only deprives the world of another voice for God, but damages and hardens our own hearts and lives.Join Pastor Jason as he discusses how we can be Christ in the World...how we can walk down the Pathway of Discipleship.
