Can indecision hold your spiritual life hostage? We explore this compelling question by diving into the dramatic biblical story of Elijah's confrontation with King Ahab and the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel. This narrative underscores the vital importance of making firm choices and committing to God, especially amidst life's uncertainties. Drawing from the profound insights in James, we emphasize the necessity of seeking God's wisdom to overcome the paralysis of indecision, as wavering beliefs can lead us astray. As we navigate the "valley of decision," inspired by Joel chapter 3, we confront the internal struggles and fears that accompany choice-making. Indecision often stems from fear of the consequences, but recognizing the urgency and judgment that awaits can spur us to action. Here, we learn the importance of taking self-inventory and pursuing wisdom, while considering the eternal consequences of our choices. With examples from notable figures like Charlie Kirk and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, we discuss the transformative power of living for God and the courage required to embrace truth and self-denial. Finally, we reflect on the essence of choosing to live by faith, inspired by the teachings of both scripture and the lives of those who have walked the path before us. Through prayer and seeking God's guidance, we can find the strength to become not just hearers, but doers of the word. Join us as we explore how each decision impacts not only our lives but also future generations, reminding ourselves of the peace and direction found in committing wholeheartedly to faith. Join Rolf Jacobson, Kathryn Schifferdecker, and Craig Koester as they explore the powerful message of the prophet Amos in this week's episode of I Love to Tell the Story, a podcast on the Narrative Lectionary for November 9th, 2025. The prophet Amos brings one of the most challenging messages in Scripture—calling out the disconnect between religious observance and social justice. Though he was a farmer from the Southern Kingdom, Amos was sent to speak truth to power in the Northern Kingdom around 760-780 BCE. His ministry may have lasted only two years, but his words continue to resonate today. In this episode, we discuss: * The meaning of "The Lord roars from Zion" and Amos's prophetic mission * The dangerous disconnect between piety and justice * What biblical justice (mishpat) and righteousness (tzedek) really mean * Why Amos declares "I hate, I despise your festivals" * The call to "let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream" * How this message connects to modern calls for justice, including Martin Luther King Jr.'s use of Amos As one of the hosts shares: "If you like the prophet Amos, you don't understand him." This episode will challenge you to examine the gap between religious practice and care for the vulnerable in our own time. TIMECODES: 00:00 Introduction to Amos and Contextual Background 02:47 The Call for Justice and Social Awareness 05:51 Understanding Justice and Righteousness 08:51 The Nature of Seeking God 12:18 Conclusion and Reflection on Amos' Message 14:21 Outro

There are many reasons we can find ourselves sinking into the valley of desperation... grief, worry, sickness, sin, or shame. Sometimes it feels like the deeper we go, the darker it gets, and the harder it becomes to see a way out. In Psalm 143, David cries out to God in his own moment of desperation, seeking not just relief, but the will of God. When we are in our lowest moments, we too can reach out to the Shepherd who hears us. Seeking God's will means surrendering our situation to Him and allowing Him to mold and change us through it - no matter the outcome. In the valley of desperation, will you call out to your Lord and trust Him to lead you through?
SHOW NOTES When God Doesn't Answer Your List: From Demands to Deep Trust In this episode, I share what my first prayers looked like after Monica's death—raw, desperate, and full of demands. From pleading for miracles to panicking over future loss, I'll tell you how my relationship with God shifted from transactional to transformational. I'm reading from the final chapter of Dying to Be Healed, where I open up about how Monica's faith journey—and eventual death—led me to chase after God with a new purpose. This isn't a tidy testimony tied up with answers, but a reminder that peace doesn't come from getting what we ask for—it comes from trusting the One we ask. And often, the greatest healing doesn't happen in the way we expect.

This week, Joel (Central Service) kicks off our teaching series on our values and vision. We look at the value of ‘Presence' being the foundational value for any true revival. Seeking God's presence requries us shifting the mindset of prayer from obligation to orientation, cultivating a deep hunger and thirst for Jesus as our life's ultimate goal. It also demands a shift from relying on feelings to friendship, building a sustained, commitment-based relationship with God, independent of emotional highs. Finally, we must move from a faith of consuming to contending, actively contending in prayer for the Church's purity and the powerful advance of the Gospel.
We begin a 40 Days of Prayer campaign with the story of Elijah on Mt Horeb listening for the voice of God and finding Him in the quiet whisper.

Drawing on Deuteronomy 4:29, this devotional encourages believers to seek God with their whole heart and soul, trusting that He is always near. Highlights Hiding from God is natural, but His presence is never absent Childhood hide-and-seek illustrates how we often distance ourselves from the Lord God patiently waits for us to reach toward Him, even in dark or difficult seasons Scripture reassures us of God’s unwavering presence: Deut. 31:6; Matt. 28:20; Acts 17:27 Seeking God wholeheartedly leads to restoration and intimacy with Him Join the Conversation Are you hiding from God today, or seeking Him with your whole heart? How the Old and New Testaments tell us the same thing
Family heritage can point you toward God, but it can't stand in for your own surrender. The faith that saves is personal, a real "yes", a living trust, a daily walk you choose yourself. The second hand belief may spark curiosity, but only your heart's response makes you new. And in today's message, Pastor Malcolm will encourage you to let that truth nudge you from borrowed convictions to authentic commitment. Seeking God, confessing honestly and building rhythms of prayer and obedience that are truly yours.

Tension and chaos from bad news, job loss, spiritual conflicts and broken relationships often disrupt our lives. In these moments, individuals must choose between fear and seeking divine guidance. Turning to scripture and acting on faith becomes essential. While tension is a common experience, it can also serve as a catalyst for obedience and spiritual growth. (2 Chronicles 20:1-25)

In this sermon, Pastor Landon Churchill unpacks Jesus' teaching in Luke 12:22–34, where He addresses two of the biggest struggles of the human heart: covetousness (“I want more”) and worry (“I don't have enough”). Both are traps that distract us from God's care and kingdom purposes. Through vivid illustrations, Scripture references, and encouragement for daily life, Pastor Landon reminds us that: • Worry never adds anything—it only subtracts. • God feeds the ravens and clothes the lilies; how much more will He care for His children? • Our true treasure is eternal, not temporary. • Seeking God's kingdom first realigns our priorities and frees us from anxiety. • Where our treasure is, there our hearts will be also.
What if the very challenges you face are part of God's greater plan for your good? In this sermon, Pastor James Wilson shares the truth of Romans 8:28, reminding us that all things work together for good to those who love God. From struggles with health and family to the battles against sin, Pastor Wilson teaches that God's sovereignty is absolute and His plan is never shaken. Drawing strength from Romans 8:37, he encourages us that we are more than conquerors through Christ's love. The key lesson is this: no matter what “things” you are facing, faith and obedience to God's Word will lead you to victory and transformation. Justice At Last ReCreate Church | Michael Shockley | August 24, 2025 Esther Series, Part 7: Esther 7 ---------- EPISODE SUMMARY Ever wonder why justice seems delayed while evil appears to prosper? Through the climactic chapter of Esther's story, Michael Shockley reveals how God's justice works - even when it seems absent. From childhood candy theft to global injustices, we all wrestle with why bad things happen to good people and why the guilty seem to escape consequences. But in Esther chapter 7, we witness the ultimate reversal as Queen Esther finally reveals Haman's genocidal plot at the second royal banquet. Watch as the master manipulator becomes terrified, accidentally breaks Persian law by falling near the queen, and ends up executed on the very gallows he built for Mordecai. Through humor, personal stories, and biblical insight, discover how our sense of justice actually reflects God's character and why we can trust that evil may run its mouth, but God's justice will have the last word. Core Message: Evil may run its mouth, but God's Justice has the last word. ---------- KEY TOPICS COVERED The Universal Desire for Justice - Childhood experiences with unfairness and sibling candy theft - Road rage when bad drivers don't get caught by police - The deeper pain when serious injustices go unpunished - How our anger at injustice reflects God's image in us - Why justice feels delayed in a microwave culture when God uses the "Crock Pot" Esther's Strategic Timing - The Persian custom of multiple banquets for major requests - Why Esther delayed her request through two separate meals - The power of three days of fasting and prayer for divine guidance - Building up to the revelation rather than making immediate accusations - How dedicated prayer changes situations and people The Second Banquet Revelation - The "banquet of wine" as the traditional time for big requests - The king's repeated offer: "up to half the kingdom" as generous hyperbole - Esther's careful approach: "give me my life and the lives of my people" - Her wisdom in mentioning the king's financial loss from genocide - The perfect timing after the king remembered Mordecai's loyalty The Great Unmasking - The king's rage at learning someone threatened his queen - Haman's shock at discovering Esther was Jewish - "The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman!" - The terror of the master schemer when his plot is exposed - How the trusted advisor's betrayal felt like a personal attack Divine Providence in Action - The king's strategic exit to process the shocking news - Haman's desperate pleading that led to breaking Persian law - Falling on the queen's couch while no man could approach within seven steps - The king's return at the perfect moment to misinterpret the scene - How apparent coincidences reveal God's orchestration Poetic Justice Fulfilled - The servant's reminder about the 75-foot gallows built for Mordecai - The irony of Haman being executed on his own construction - How the enemy literally constructed his own destruction - The public nature of his humiliation and death - God writing a story of justice no human author could script The Challenge of Living Justly - Micah 6:8: "do justly, love mercy, walk humbly with your God" - How we demand justice from others while avoiding personal responsibility - The call to live with integrity even when it costs us - Speaking truth and refusing to participate in wrongdoing - Trusting God's timing when justice seems delayed ---------- MEMORABLE QUOTES "Evil may run its mouth, but God's Justice has the last word." "Your ability to recognize injustice and your anger with injustice come from the incredible truth that you were created in the image of a Just God." "We want microwave answers, when God might be using the Crock Pot." "What looks like a coincidence is providence." "The enemy constructed his own destruction. The Unseen Hand of God wrote a story of justice no human author could script." "Just because we can't see justice, it doesn't mean justice isn't on the way." "The Justice of God may move slowly, it may be hidden, but when it arrives, it is undeniable and irresistible." "Don't forget that even injustice will eventually play into God's Plans." ---------- BIBLICAL FOUNDATION - Primary Text: Esther 7:1-6 - Key Verse: "And Esther said, 'The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman!'" (Esther 7:6) - Supporting Verse: "He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?" (Micah 6:8) - Theme: Divine justice working through human circumstances - Historical Context: The Persian banquet customs and royal protocol - Ultimate Justice: How the greatest injustice (the Cross) became our salvation ---------- PRACTICAL APPLICATION If You're Frustrated with Injustice: - Remember that your sense of justice reflects God's image in you - Trust that God sees every wrong and will address it in His timing - Don't lose heart when you see evil appearing to prosper - Know that the boom of God's justice will echo through eternity If You're Seeking God's Guidance: - Consider the power of dedicated fasting and prayer like Esther - Move beyond stress-talking to God toward focused, directed prayer - Trust that something will give - the situation, you, or both - Allow time for God to reveal His strategy and timing If You've Been Wronged: - Trust that the enemy often constructs their own destruction - Know that apparent coincidences may be divine providence at work - Remember that delayed justice doesn't mean denied justice - Find comfort that God will set all things right, if not now, then eternally If You Want to See Justice: - Start by living justly in your own life and relationships - Act with integrity even when it costs you personally - Speak truth and refuse to participate in wrongdoing - Treat people with kindness and respect regardless of their response If You're Tempted to Take Justice into Your Own Hands: - Trust God's timing rather than forcing your own solutions - Remember that vengeance belongs to the Lord - Focus on faithfulness rather than getting even - Let God orchestrate the reversals and revelations ---------- THE ULTIMATE INVITATION Maybe you've experienced betrayal, unfairness, or injustice that still stings today. Maybe you've watched the guilty prosper while the innocent suffer. Maybe you've wondered where God is in the midst of corruption and oppression. This much is true: the same God who orchestrated justice for Haman is still the God of justice today. Your anger at injustice isn't wrong - it reflects His image in you. But remember that the greatest injustice in history - the crucifixion of the only innocent man who ever lived - became the source of our salvation. Jesus took the injustice we deserved so we could receive the mercy we don't deserve. Trust in His justice, live justly yourself, and remember that evil may run its mouth, but God's justice will have the last word. ---------- CONNECT WITH RECREATE CHURCH - Website: recreatechurch.org - Support the Ministry: Give through the Tithe.ly app or offering boxes ---------- Are you living justly in your own sphere of influence? Have you trusted in God's mercy through Jesus? Remember that while evil may seem to get away with everything now, the Judge of all the earth will do right, and His justice will be both perfect and final.
Jesus Followers' Personal Relationship with Jesus Comes from Humility as Sinners Through Seeking God's Mercy in Prayer MESSAGE SUMMARY: We do not deserve it; but we able to come to God, in a Personal Relationship with Him, because of His Mercy. We are all sinners. As Paul tells us in Romans 9:18: “So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills.". With God's Justice without His Mercy and His resulting Grace, you would face only eternal death as Justice for your sins. We can never enter God's presence for prayer when we are in our pride with our focus on ourselves. Also, Paul reminds us, in 1 Corinthians 1:30-31, that, in your Salvation through God's Grace, Jesus makes us “boast” only in the Grace provided us by God: “And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, ‘Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.'”. We can only enter God's presence when we humble ourselves in Jesus. Humility and penitence before God invite His presence – here I am, Lord; just as I am; have mercy on me a sinner. TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, everything in me resists following you into the garden of Gethsemane to fall on my face to the ground before you. Grant me the courage to follow you all the way to the cross, whatever that might mean for my life. And then, by your grace, lead me to resurrection life and power. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 100). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. Rather, I will walk in the Spirit's fruit of Faithfulness. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f).
