All too often, the world seems to believe that in order to come into the church, he or she must clean themselves up, have the right clothes, say the right things, give off the right persona...but until then, they would be stopped at the door. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Although to the unsaved, lest God opens their eyes and lets them see and understand, the message of the Gospel may not make sense, the reality is that everyone is welcome, and not one person inside those walls is remotely close to perfect.  We, like all humanity were once dead in our sins, totally reliant on Jesus to bring us to life through salvation that only He can offer. All are welcome...few will come. This Sunday is the Sunday that has historically been commemorated by some in the Christian and Catholic faith as the day the Magi visited the Christ Child, known as Epiphany Sunday. Whether you subscribe to this tradition or not, the historical account of the visit of these Magi are very significant to the story of Jesus being recognized as the prophesied King.  But just as the Magi brought three very significant gifts to the Child, we too, as Christians, are to bring our gifts to Him as well. Today, Pastor Jason highlighted the fact that Jesus was and is the prophesied Emmanuel - God With Us!  What does it say about the love of God, our Creator, to humble Himself and come to earth as a baby, to be born in a lowly stable, to live as the simple son of a carpenter, in order to offer Himself as the sacrifice that allows us the opportunity to join Him in Heaven for all of eternity? The world is done a disservice by the English language when it comes to the word "love". That one word can mean so many things. But when talking about Godly, Christian, self-sacrificial love...how do we do that? The human is by sinful nature a self-absorbed creature on it's best day. God desires so much better for us, and Jesus was sent and was and is our example of how to move from a human definition of love to a Christ centered love - love for God with all we are, love for our fellow Christians, and love for all image bearers of God. Today's message was preceded by the presentation of the Second Day of Advent - Peace. This was presented by Jean Wallace and Trevor Morris, with the lighting of the Peace candle. As we travel through the advent season, and come to the day that we commemorate Peace. We must ask ourselves, if Peace is a gift from God, what are we given peace from? The answer is a simple one - conflict. As unregenerate people, dead in our sins, we are at war with our very Creator.  But God, in His infinite mercy rescues His children from the curse of sin and death, and changes us from enemy combatants to joint heirs with Christ Himself.
