Your Personal Brand

I started the Your Personal Brand podcast in June of 2020. I'm amazed how quickly it got the charts as a top 100 podcast on the marketing niche! In this post I'm sharing the top 5 podcast episodes of 2020. These are the most downloaded of the first 59 episodes I've released. #5 - Episode 34: Social Media Tips from SupermanThis episode was published shortly after the Brand Hero Summit. Superman was the topic of one or two discussions in the Marketing Your Personal Brand Challenge that I led in September after the Summit, so it just made it's way into ta full podcast episode! #4 - Episode #25: Interview with Personal Brand Strategist Kayla StartaI met Kayla at a networking event in Pittsburgh. She was one of the first people to agree to be part of the Summit, and she's an amazingly talented young woman. She can help you grow your business - no doubt about it. It's no surprise her interview is one of the top episodes!#3 - Episode 36: Branding vs. Marketing When I looked at the numbers, I was surprised this one did so well! In fact, the October episodes in general did well. These were some of the first episodes after a brainstorming session, so I'm glad they have been well received. Looks like it's time for another session of ideating topics! #2 - Episode 5: Interview with Heidi Hapanowicz This is one of the launch episodes, and Heidi is in my opinion the top personal brand photogs in the world. I always enjoy my discussions with her, and this episode has a lot of great branding tips. #1 - Episode 1: Why I Became a Personal Brand Photographer I'm not sure if I should be happy this is #1 or not! It was recorded as part of the intro series to the podcast, but it is the top episode by a large margin - almost 50% more downloads than the second most popular episode. Hopefully people don't listen to it and then decide not to listen to the rest! Other popular episodes: After the top 5, it seems as though half the remaining episodes are within a couple downloads, including many of the most recent episodes. This also makes sense, as the podcast tends to pick up more new listeners each month. I think it will be interesting to see what the top 5 looks like a year from now! So those are the most downloaded episodes of Your Personal Brand! What's your favorite episode? Or, maybe there's a topic you wish I would cover? Reach out and let me know!

John Loftus was an evangelical minister.  He has several degrees in Christian apologetics.  He pastored churches and taught at Christian colleges.  Then he left it all.   He has written a dozen books with titles such as Why I Became an Atheist: A Former Preacher Rejects Christianity and The Outsider Test for Faith: How to Know Which Religion Is True.  His latest book is How to Defend the Christian Faith:  Advice from An Atheist.  He cuts through the mischaracterizations, special pleading and outright lies of Christian apologists.  He blogs at Debunking Christianity.

John W. Loftus should be a Christian. He attended and graduated from Great Lakes Christian College, Lincoln Christian University, and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School where he learned under apologist William Lane Craig. But he’s spent the last several years debunking the faith. His books include Why I Rejected Christianity, Why I Became an Atheist, and The Outsider Test for Faith. His latest book is strangely called How to Defend the Christian Faith. I spoke with John about the worst argument Christian apologists use, how learning the Bible caused him to leave the faith, and whether rejecting Christianity is the same thing as becoming an atheist.

Not only is Roni Selig one of my favorite people, she is one busy woman, so I am honored that she carved out some quality time to sit down with me and do the podcast in the midst of her immersive (to put it mildly) work schedule at CNN, where she has the heady title of Director of the CNN Medical, Health & Wellness Unit in CNN's New York City headquarters high above Columbus Circle. In certain respects, I suppose this makes her Sanjay Gupta's boss — heavy, right? To provide some perspective, we were meant to conduct this interview about a month ago. But as we sat in her office catching up prior to potting the mics, the Boston Marathon bombing occurred, and I had the rare opportunity to watch her — and her team at the world's leading 24-hour international news network — jump into action to begin covering the unbelievably tragic events as they unfolded in real time. It was impressive. But needless to say, the horrible events of that day prevented the podcast from happening. Lucky for me, I was back in NYC a month later. No crazy breaking news that day, so we got it done.Compelling is the fact that despite the time constraints and pressures of her incredibly demanding job — amplified by her busy personal life as a wife and mother — Roni still manages to find the time to pursue her passion — triathlon – and pursue it well.We get into all aspects of her professional life — behind the scenes at CNN Health; plus how she balances her personal life to train and compete as a high level age group endurance athlete, and her passion for CNN Fit Nation — a program she oversees that involves a small group of civilians (hand selected annually from submissions) facing personal challenges committed to completing their first triathlon under the mentorship of CNN.All said, Roni is a delight and an inspiration. I hope you enjoy the interview as much as I (always) enjoy spending time with her.FINDING ULTRA PAPERBACK IN TIME FOR FATHER'S DAYHey – you gotta get dear old dad something for Father's Day, right? John W. Loftus earned M.A. and M.Div. degrees in theology and philosophy from Lincoln Christian Seminary under the guidance of Dr. James D. Strauss. He then attended Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, where he studied under Dr. William Lane Craig and received a Th.M. degree in philosophy of religion. Before leaving the church, he had ministries in Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana, and taught at several Christian colleges. Today he still teaches as an adjunct instructor in philosophy at Kellogg Community College and has an online blog devoted to "debunking Christianity." His new book is Why I Became an Atheist: A Former Preacher Rejects Christianity. In this interview with D.J. Grothe, John Loftus discusses his background as an Evangelical Christian preacher and apologist and what led to his rejection of the faith, including both emotional loss and "lovelessness in the church," and also philosophical arguments and historical evidence that caused him to doubt. He critiques the Christian illusion of moral superiority. He challenges religion with what he calls the "outsider test." He explores whether logic and reason led to his atheism, or followed only after he adopted an atheistic point of view for emotional reasons. And he explains what he does believe in now that he no longer believes in Christianity or God, and the benefits he thinks this new worldview brings him.
