https://jordanapodaca.com/ What does betrayal trauma actually feel like? Not everyone who experiences infidelity develops trauma. Some people experience grief, anger, and sadness, which are painful, but normal. But for others, it feels like their entire sense of safety, reality, and identity has collapsed. In this video, I break down the 4 major signs of betrayal trauma, how they show up in daily life, and how to tell the difference between normal heartbreak and a nervous system stuck in threat mode. If you've been cheated on and you're wondering: - “Why can't I stop thinking about it?” - “Why do I feel crazy?” - “Why can't I relax even when nothing is happening?” - “Is this normal?” This will help you understand what's really going on. And more importantly, why time alone doesn't fix it. If this resonates, you don't have to figure it out alone. Book a call with me below if you want help going deeper than coping strategies and actually resolving the root of the trauma. ⬇️ Apply to work with me: https://jordanapodaca.com/#free-call

Nelson Nash Think Tank 2026 Recap: What Serious Practitioners Want Families to Understand

The Money Advantage Podcast

The “Real Show” Reminder (and why that matters) We kicked off this episode the way we often do—by being real. A quick tech hiccup, a laugh, and the reminder that this is not a polished production pretending to be perfect. It's a real show, with real people, talking about real money decisions. https://www.youtube.com/live/JDkaHi_66d8 And that imperfect start is a perfect picture of what's happening in the Infinite Banking world right now. As Infinite Banking becomes more popular, the internet makes it look clean and effortless: slick graphics, big promises, “hacks,” and fast results. But families don't need more hype. They need clarity. That's why this Nelson Nash Think Tank 2026 recap matters. It's one of the few environments where serious practitioners gather—not to sell—but to refine thinking, challenge assumptions, and protect the integrity of Nelson Nash's original message. If you're a family leader who wants to use the Infinite Banking Concept as a long-term strategy—not a short-term trend—this is for you. The “Real Show” Reminder (and why that matters)What you'll gain from this Nelson Nash Think Tank 2026 recapWhat is the Nelson Nash Think Tank (and why it's different)?Nelson Nash's first rule and the 2026 themeInternal rate of return vs volume in Infinite Banking: what families are hearing onlineWhy “maximum early cash value” can backfire in Infinite Banking policy designModified Endowment Contract (MEC) and the 7-pay test: what to knowHow to choose an Infinite Banking practitioner (and avoid bad advice)“Insurance companies are not banks”: understanding the banking processThink long range as a way of life, not a quick tacticWhere Infinite Banking is headed: young people, AI, and fintechWhat this Nelson Nash Think Tank 2026 recap means for your familyListen to the full episode (Nelson Nash Think Tank 2026 recap)Book A Strategy Call What you'll gain from this Nelson Nash Think Tank 2026 recap In this article, we're pulling back the curtain on what was shared at the Nelson Nash Think Tank 2026—a practitioner-focused environment where the emphasis was think long range, improve policy design conversations, and address the growing confusion created by clickbait marketing and “shortcut” policy claims. Here's what you'll walk away with: What the Think Tank is (and why it's not a sales event) Why “think long range” was the theme—and why families should pay attention The real issue behind “maximum early cash value” and skinny-based designs How to spot Infinite Banking misconceptions and marketing tactics What's coming with AI and fintech in life insurance—and what isn't changing Practical guidance for families who want to take control of the banking function What is the Nelson Nash Think Tank (and why it's different)? The Think Tank isn't built for the general public. It's designed to sharpen the people who teach and implement the concept. You typically attend as a practitioner, someone in the practitioner program, or as a guest of a practitioner (which can include clients or people considering becoming practitioners). It's also intentionally immersive. The days start early with breakfast, run through sessions into late afternoon, and then continue with dinners, vendor conversations, and deep discussions with fellow practitioners late into the night. You don't go to be entertained. You go to be challenged, stretched, and sharpened. And that matters right now because Infinite Banking has become more searchable, more popular, and—unfortunately—more misrepresented. When something powerful spreads quickly, stewardship matters more. Nelson Nash's first rule and the 2026 theme The theme this year was think long range, and that's not a catchy slogan. It's foundational to the Infinite Banking Concept as Nelson Nash taught it. Short-term thinking is the default posture of our culture. Social media rewards it. Marketing rewards it. Even many financial products are sold with it: “What can you get fast?” “What can you access now?” “How can you win this year?” But Infinite Banking was never meant to be a short-term move. It's meant to be a lifetime strategy. Thinking long range means you're making decisions from the perspective of: building stability, not excitement creating options, not dependence protecting your family's future, not chasing quick wins designing a system that can bless generations, not just solve this month That mindset shift is what separates families who use Infinite Banking wisely from families who get caught in the noise. Internal rate of return vs volume in Infinite Banking: what families are hearing online One of the biggest recurring themes was the temptation to judge policies primarily by internal rate of return (IRR)—especially in the early years. If you've spent any time online looking at Infinite Banking, you've likely seen people argue about illustrations, early cash value, and “best” design strategies. Many of those arguments are framed as if the only goal is maximizing the numbers as quickly as possible. But here's the problem: you can “win” an early IRR argument while losing the long-range strategy. A powerful presentation at the Think Tank used a visual approach—backed by math—to show something families need to hear clearly: focusing on early cash value often creates tradeoffs that reduce your future capacity. There are no solutions—only compromises. And a compromise isn't bad when you understand it. The danger is when someone sells a compromise like it's a guaranteed solution. The heart of the point was this: in Infinite Banking, the rate is not nearly as important as the volume of dollars you can control over your lifetime. That's how commercial banks and major financial institutions think. A small return on a massive volume becomes a large outcome. For families, that translates into a different question entirely:How much of what flows through your hands will you capture and control? That question changes everything. Why “maximum early cash value” can backfire in Infinite Banking policy design One of the most popular marketing angles today is the push for “maximum early cash value,” often achieved through skinny-based policies with high PUAs. The pitch usually sounds like this: get as much cash value as possible early so you can “put your money to work somewhere else.” Here's what often doesn't get explained. Some aggressive designs rely on structures that only allow maximum funding for a limited period (for example, seven years). After that funding window ends—often due to IRS rules tied to MEC limits—the rider or structure may drop off, and you can no longer fund in the same way. The common comeback is: “Just start another policy.” But real life isn't a spreadsheet. Starting over can reset efficiency. Health and insurability can change. Income changes. Goals change. Markets change. And a strategy that depends on you repeatedly starting new policies assumes a stability most families simply can't guarantee. The bigger concern is the mindset that this trains: a series of short sprints instead of building a lifelong system. Thinking long range means designing for durability, flexibility, and sustainability—not just speed. Modified Endowment Contract (MEC) and the 7-pay test: what to know You don't need to be a tax expert to understand why MEC rules matter, but you do need to know that they exist—because many “max fund fast” strategies bump up against them. A Modified Endowment Contract (MEC) is a policy that fails IRS funding limits (often related to the 7-pay test). When a policy becomes a MEC, the tax treatment of distributions changes, and it can reduce some of the advantages families expect when they hear “tax favored.” That's why certain policy designs are built around managing those limits—sometimes by using structures that give you a short window of maximum funding. The key takeaway is simple: if someone is promising “perfect” early cash value without explaining tradeoffs, funding limits, and long-term implications, you're not being educated. You're being marketed to. And marketing can be expensive. How to choose an Infinite Banking practitioner (and avoid bad advice) As Infinite Banking grows, a disappointing trend has emerged: clickbait content designed to stir controversy or attract attention. Some marketers now lead with “what's wrong with IBC” as a hook—even while selling it—because negativity generates clicks. That kind of infighting confuses families and erodes trust. So what should you watch for? Red flags to take seriously Be cautious if someone says or implies: “You don't have to make premium payments.” “These aren't premiums, they're deposits” (without clear explanation that it's life insurance). “You'll get cars for free if you do this long enough.” “This is the only policy design that works.” “You're borrowing at X and earning Y so you're losing money” using simplistic one-year comparisons. Another red flag: when someone makes you feel urgency—like you must act now without fully understanding what you're buying. If it feels too good to be true, your intuition is likely picking up on something real. A healthier question to ask Instead of asking, “How fast can I get cash value?” ask: “How will this policy design serve my family over decades?” “How long can I realistically fund this?” “What compromises are being made to get early access?” “How does this fit into my long-term cash flow strategy?” That's how you protect yourself—and how you start thinking like the kind of leader this strategy requires. “Insurance companies are not banks”: understanding the banking process Insurance companies have been emphasizing that they are not banks. That's true.

LoveLife L;VE: Raising the Standard of Support On this episode of the Make Mental Health Matter Show host Kelli Melissa Reinhardt does a solo show talking about the launch of a new program from Make Mental Health Matter nonprofit called the LoveLife L;ve program. This is a low-cost coaching and holistic based program designed to give access to support for those individuals that don't have the financial means to take care of their wellness due to cost. Kelli also talks about how to know the difference between certified coaches and uncertified. Also licenses mental health professionals vs unlicensed. Giving more background about why we are having certified coaches for our program.  Little bit about Kelli's story from her: I decided to become a Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) Coach in 2020 after I had experienced the power of NLP on my own mindset. I was living in fear due to 2 traumatic events that I paired together. I was living in fear of losing anyone else in my life after the loss of my sister to suicide and after my son had seizures on the day of her celebration of life. When I found NLP, it transformed my life and allowed me to find the fear, shift the 2 events and replace it with curiosity that same day. That night I went home and everything in my life shifted. I realized if it could help me so much, I wanted to learn more, so that I could help others. This started my journey of getting all the levels of certification starting at Practitioner, Masters, Training and Consulting, Coaching Foundations and Coaching Building Blocks, which lead to completing my ICF (international Coaching Federation) Certification.  Most recently I completed the training to become a Peer & Family Support Specialist and will start the journey of becoming certified in that also. I believe in furthering my education and adding certifications because it helps me be a better coach and support to those that are truly struggling.  I'm walking the walk, not just talking the talk. And continuing to level up my education to help 1 million people by 2030.  Short bio: Kelli Melissa Reinhardt, Warrior for Mental Health, and CEO/Founder of Make Mental Health Matter, a nonprofit born from heartbreak and built to save lives. After losing her sister to suicide in 2017, Kelli dedicated her life to helping others have the hard conversations about mental health, substance use, and suicide before it's too late. We dive into the neuroscience of betrayal trauma to explain why logic often fails when your survival program takes over. We explore the three main parts of this biological response: The Amygdala: Your internal "smoke detector" that becomes hyper-sensitive to every perceived threat. The Prefrontal Cortex: The "CEO" of your brain that gets locked out of the building when the alarm goes off. The Hippocampus: The "filing clerk" that drops the files, making past trauma feel like it's happening right now. Understanding these biological shifts is the first step toward stopping the self-judgment and finding your way back to safety. Ready to rebuild your sense of reality and find safety again? Welcome, and thank you for listening.I'm Andrew Wren, founder of Conella, and in this episode I want to talk about something that many practitioners experience quietly, but rarely say out loud.Doing the right things, applying good training, using sound reasoning, and still not getting the outcome you expected. Most practitioners don't struggle because they lack knowledge. They struggle because, despite acting in good faith, the tools they relied on didn't perform in the way they were led to believe they would. You trained properly. You learned how to assess a client, recognise patterns, and build nutritional recommendations based on physiology rather than guesswork. So when a recommendation doesn't land, why does the responsibility so often fall entirely on the practitioner? Why is it assumed that something was done wrong, rather than questioning the materials themselves? In this episode, we're going to explore why knowledge is rarely the missing piece. Evaluation is.We'll look at how supplement formulation, nutrient form, blending strategies, and regulatory frameworks quietly shape outcomes in practice. We'll use familiar examples, including minerals like magnesium, to show how compliant, widely used products can behave very differently in the body. This is not about criticising brands or making claims. It's about developing the professional confidence to question, assess, and understand the tools you use every day.If you've ever felt that uneasy gap between what should have worked on paper and what happened in practice, this conversation is for you.Let's get started.

How Qualytics Knew it had found product-market fit | Gorkem Sevinc

Category Visionaries

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 19, 2026 24:45

Qualytics is redefining enterprise data quality by positioning it as a collaborative business function rather than an isolated data engineering problem. Founded at the start of the pandemic by Gorkem Sevinc - a former CTO and CDO who spent years managing reactive data quality firefights - Qualytics emerged from a clear practitioner pain point: writing endless custom rules to catch data issues after they'd already broken dashboards and KPIs. The company raised pre-seed and seed rounds while building with beta customers, then closed a Series A as repeatability patterns emerged in their POC process. Now, as enterprises scramble to operationalize AI initiatives, Qualytics is experiencing explosive inbound demand from organizations realizing their data foundations aren't ready for democratized data access. Topics Discussed The practitioner insight that sparked Qualytics: reactive rule-writing doesn't scale Leveraging existing CTO/CDO networks and PE portfolio connections for beta customers The evolution from free POCs to paid POCs as a mutual commitment mechanism Identifying repeatability through week-by-week POC conversion patterns Building practitioner credibility into the sales motion while hiring for enterprise sales grit The decision to hire sales and marketing leadership simultaneously post-Series A Tracking in-product engagement metrics (DQ operations frequency, anomaly detection, rule editing) as churn prevention Positioning data quality as vertical-specific business problems (premium leakage, regulatory compliance) The timing advantage: AI adoption forcing enterprises to treat data governance as mandatory infrastructure GTM Lessons For B2B Founders Talk to 100 prospects before writing code—even with deep domain expertise: After burning 18 months building a radiology second opinion product that patients didn't want (they didn't even know radiologists were doctors), Gorkem adopted a hard rule: validate with 100 conversations before building. His advantage as a former CTO who lived the data quality problem created false confidence. Practitioners often assume their pain is universal, but buyer awareness and willingness to pay are separate questions. Start with NSF I-Corps-style problem validation: show rough sketches, probe what happened when they hit the pain point, understand how it hurt them financially or operationally. Repeatability appears in micro-conversions during trials, not just closed-won rates: Gorkem didn't declare product-market fit when deals closed—he declared it when he could predict POC behavior by week. "Week two, I'm expecting this. Week three, I'm expecting this." That predictability enabled ROI calculators and internal champion enablement materials. For technical founders, this means instrumenting your trial or POC to track leading indicators: specific features activated, data volumes processed, number of team members engaged, frequency of logins. When those patterns stabilize across prospects, you have a repeatable motion. Use paid POCs as a procurement front-loading mechanism, not a revenue play: Qualytics charges nominal amounts for some POCs—not for the revenue, but to get the MSA signed and force both parties through legal/security review upfront. This eliminates the pattern where free POCs succeed technically but die in procurement. Large enterprises often refuse to pay for POCs, which Gorkem accepts—but only if they commit equivalent effort (executive time, cross-functional teams). The paid POC is a qualification tool: if they won't commit anything, they're not a real opportunity. Hire sales and marketing leadership in parallel and hold them to unified GTM metrics: Gorkem regrets hiring early sales reps before leadership and delaying marketing investment. Post-Series A, he hired both leaders simultaneously and holds them jointly accountable to pipeline generation and velocity—not siloed MQL counts or quota attainment. This structural decision forces collaboration on messaging, ICP definition, and campaign strategy from day one. For technical founders who "figured out" founder-led sales, resist the urge to replicate your motion with more SDRs. Bring in strategic leadership that can build a scalable system. Instrument product engagement as your earliest churn signal—then intervene immediately: Beyond quarterly NPS and executive QBRs, Gorkem tracks granular product usage: how many data quality operations users run, how many anomalies they discover, how actively they're editing rules. When engagement drops, he doesn't wait—he jumps into the customer's existing weekly meetings to diagnose and course-correct. For B2B founders building complex products with long time-to-value, passive health scores aren't enough. You need active usage telemetry and a low-latency intervention process. Translate technical capabilities into vertical-specific business outcomes: Gorkem doesn't pitch "data quality for data engineers." He talks about premium leakage with insurance companies and OCC/SEC data controls with banks. This reframing works because buyers recognize their problem, not a vendor category. The shift requires research: understand each vertical's regulatory environment, operational pain points, and the business metrics executives care about. When you walk in speaking their language about their P&L impact, you're not another vendor—you're someone who gets it. Time your market entry to when "nice-to-have" becomes "must-have": When Qualytics launched, some enterprises called data quality a "nice-to-have." AI adoption changed that calculus overnight. Organizations planning to let 20,000 employees interrogate data through AI interfaces suddenly realized they need robust data governance, quality controls, and cataloging first. Gorkem's timing wasn't luck—he built during the "nice-to-have" phase so he'd be ready when AI budgets made it mandatory. Technical founders should identify the external forcing function (regulation, technology shift, economic change) that will transform their solution from vitamin to painkiller. // Sponsors: Front Lines — We help B2B tech companies launch, manage, and grow podcasts that drive demand, awareness, and thought leadership. www.FrontLines.io The Global Talent Co. — We help tech startups find, vet, hire, pay, and retain amazing marketing talent that costs 50-70% less than the US & Europe. www.GlobalTalent.co // Don't Miss: New Podcast Series — How I Hire Senior GTM leaders share the tactical hiring frameworks they use to build winning revenue teams. Episode Summary In a world increasingly driven by data, frameworks, and efficiency, are we losing the human element in public relations? This week, hosts Karen Swim and Michelle Kane tackle the critical need for brands to prioritize people over processes. They explore how the over-reliance on analytics, scripts, and rigid systems can lead to poor customer experiences and stifle professional growth. From the frustrations of automated service lines to the undervaluing of professional instinct and critical thinking, this episode is a passionate call for PR and communications pros to champion a more people-first approach in their strategies. Episode Highlights [01:39] The "Read the Room" Imperative: Why it's essential for PR professionals to craft messaging that respects the audience and current circumstances, ensuring we don't lose sight of the people we serve. [02:24] People as an Afterthought: A discussion on the troubling trend where frameworks, efficiency, and bottom lines overshadow the human connections that public relations is built on. [05:03] The Limits of Data: While data is important, it isn't everything. The hosts use a baseball analogy to illustrate the importance of gut instinct and human experience in decision-making. [07:01] The Decline of Critical Thinking: How rigid frameworks and an obsession with efficiency are hindering the development of critical thinking skills for both seasoned and emerging professionals. [08:49] The Practitioner's Dilemma: Navigating the conflict between people-led PR training and being measured by numbers, quotas, and processes that often ignore the human impact. [10:07] Lived Experience is Valuable: The importance of on-the-ground knowledge and why ignoring local insights in favor of broad data can lead to misguided strategies. [12:16] Critical Thinking Isn't Dead, It's Devalued: A powerful argument that smart people with innovative ideas are often unheard because organizations fail to make room for human intellect and nuance. Carla brings both clinical insight and lived understanding to a deeply honest conversation about fibromyalgia — a condition marked by chronic pain, fatigue, nervous system sensitivity, and years of medical dismissal. We Explore: What fibromyalgia actually is — and why diagnosis is often delayed for years Medical gaslighting and the emotional cost of not being believed Primary vs secondary fibromyalgia and common comorbidities Why fatigue is not "just tiredness" — and why it must guide programming How nervous system dysregulation drives pain, flare-ups, and overwhelm Why listening is one of the most powerful tools a Pilates teacher has This Episode Is For: Pilates teachers working with fibromyalgia or chronic pain clients Movement professionals supporting fatigue-prone, nervous-system-sensitive bodies Teachers navigating pain, pacing, and long-term client relationships Practitioners ready to move beyond load, reps, and repertoire A Moment That Landed: "Let's not worry about the why. Let's ask how this impacts your life — and what helps you function better." Fibromyalgia cannot be understood through muscles, joints, or pathology alone. This conversation reinforces why Pilates teachers must expand their lens to include fatigue management, nervous system regulation, safety, trust, and lived experience. When movement is rushed, over-prescribed, or poorly paced, we risk reinforcing fear and deconditioning. When it's intelligent, collaborative, and respectful, Pilates becomes a long-term ally — not another failed intervention.

Integrating Genograms and Social Graces - What Is Fitness to Practise? In Episode 366 of the Counselling Tutor Podcast, your hosts Rory Lees-Oakes and Ken Kelly take us through this week's three topics: Firstly, in ‘Ethical, Sustainable Practice', we examine the new police guidance on accessing counselling records – essential listening if you work with trauma or abuse. Then, in ‘Practice Matters', Rory speaks with Lisa Williams on integrating genograms and social graces to enhance self-awareness and deepen the therapeutic relationship. And finally, in ‘Student Services', Rory and Ken explore fitness to practise - what it means, how to get signed off, and what to do if you're struggling with that final hurdle. New Police Guidance on Accessing Counselling Records [starts at 03:19 mins] In this section, Rory and Ken discuss changes to police procedures on requesting client therapy notes, exploring new police guidance on accessing counselling records and what this means for practitioners working with victims of abuse or trauma. Key points discussed include: New guidelines in England and Wales mean police cannot routinely request counselling notes without meeting the criteria of necessity, proportionality, and relevance. Requests must now be authorised at the Chief Inspector level – no longer standard procedure in criminal investigations. The guidance stems from campaigns around violence against women and girls, and aims to encourage more victims to seek justice. Clients' therapeutic privacy is recognised as essential to healing; invasive requests may have deterred survivors in the past. While the guidelines currently apply only in England and Wales, they may impact online practitioners working cross-border. Integrating Genograms and Social Graces [starts at 24:51 mins] In this week's ‘Practice Matters', Rory speaks with Lisa Williams about using genograms and social graces as reflective tools to understand both client context and practitioner bias. Key points from this conversation include: Genograms map relational and social histories, helping to uncover patterns, influences, and intergenerational dynamics. Social graces or ‘Social GGRRAAACCEEESSS' (an acronym for aspects like gender, race, class, and age) deepen understanding of cultural positioning and identity. Integrating the two tools enables richer self-reflection and enhances work with clients from diverse backgrounds. These tools are valuable in supervision, personal therapy, case formulation, and even training workshops. Practitioners can use genograms to explore their own history and biases, bringing greater awareness to the therapeutic encounter. Lisa's CPD lecture offers practical examples and updated symbolic representations, including inclusive gender markers. What Is Fitness to Practise? [starts at 46:44 mins] In this section, Rory and Ken explore what ‘fitness to practise' means in counselling training and why it's a critical step before starting client work. Key points include: Fitness to practise is a tutor's professional judgement that a student is ready to work ethically and safely with clients. It's based on observed skills, theoretical understanding, and personal development – not just academic performance. The letter of fitness to practise is often required by placements and supervisors before a student begins seeing clients. Not passing the first time is not uncommon and does not mean failure – students are usually re-assessed after additional development. A refusal or delay may highlight areas needing growth, such as emotional readiness, ethical awareness, or communication skills. Receiving the letter often boosts student confidence and marks a rite of passage into the practitioner role. In this episode, Ellie sits down with Katie to unpack why gut-first healing matters and how true restoration goes far beyond probiotics, cleanses, or symptom suppression. Together, they explore how the gut microbiome influences digestion, hormones, immunity, inflammation, mood, and energy — and why so many people stay stuck when they guess instead of test. Katie shares what she sees clinically, the most common gut patterns holding clients back, and how data-driven functional testing, including comprehensive stool testing from Vibrant America, brings clarity and precision to the healing process. You'll also learn more about GutWell, Katie's 6-month, practitioner-led gut restoration program designed to rebalance the microbiome, uncover root digestive dysfunction, and restore whole-body vitality through personalized protocols, targeted nutrition, and ongoing clinical support. This conversation is for anyone dealing with chronic digestive symptoms, hormone imbalance, inflammation, food sensitivities, or the feeling that their body just isn't responding — even when they're “doing all the right things.” Inside this episode: Why surface-level gut fixes often fail What functional stool testing reveals that standard labs miss How the microbiome impacts hormones, immunity, and the nervous system What makes the GutWell Program different from one-time consults or cleanses Who gut restoration is truly for — and when deeper support is needed

From there, Naweïa shares how her path expanded into energy work, kinesiology, EFT tapping, and ultimately plant medicine, including early experiences with ayahuasca and the moment she felt strongly called toward Iboga. Jimmy and Naweïa break down what makes Iboga different, why it's often described as a “truth hunter,” and how it can help people work through trauma, addiction patterns, emotional loops, and the deeper roots of self-sabotage.Naweïa also talks about the real meaning of self-love, why healing isn't just “feel good” spirituality, and how different parts of the psyche can stay stuck even when the adult version of you looks successful on paper. This is a deep, honest conversation about faith, healing, forgiveness, personal evolution, and what it looks like to find your own path to God without judgment.

This episode also takes a surprising turn into the growing scientific and academic interest in forgiveness and emotional regulation, highlighting how leading universities are now studying the role of forgiveness in mental health, stress reduction, and human flourishing. Leanne explains how forgiveness work fits naturally into Splankna sessions and why unresolved emotional pain can quietly keep people stuck—even when they are highly motivated to change. 365 – When Is It the Right Time to Train as a Supervisor?

Counselling Tutor

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 7, 2026

Creative Supervision - Talking to Clients About Being a Trainee Counsellor In Episode 365 of the Counselling Tutor Podcast, your hosts Rory Lees-Oakes and Ken Kelly take us through this week's three topics: Firstly, in ‘Ethical, Sustainable Practice', we ask: when is it the right time to train as a supervisor? Rory and Ken, joined by Paul Cullen, explore motivations, timing, and expectations for moving into this advanced professional role. Then in ‘Practice Matters', Rory speaks with Sally-Anne Armitage, who returns to share creative supervision techniques that can enrich both supervisory and client practice. And finally, in ‘Student Services', Rory and Ken respond to a common concern from placement practitioners - how to talk to clients about being a trainee counsellor while maintaining confidence and clarity. When Is It the Right Time to Train as a Supervisor? [starts at 03:16 mins] Rory and Ken explore the motivations, readiness, and expectations around becoming a clinical supervisor, including when it is the right time to train as a supervisor. Key points discussed include: The decision to become a supervisor may stem from necessity, professional growth, or a desire to support others. Although UK ethical frameworks don't legally require formal training, professional standards are shifting toward qualification. BACP guidance suggests supervisors should have a minimum of two years post-qualification experience and 400+ hours of practice. Effective supervision involves understanding ethical standards, developmental models, and legal responsibilities. Transitioning from therapist to supervisor requires new skills and often a more directive stance. Paul Cullen shares his personal journey into supervision, highlighting the transformation and responsibilities it entails. Creative Supervision [starts at 37:00 mins] Rory speaks with Sally Ann Armitage about how incorporating creativity into supervision can bring depth and insight to the process. Key points from this conversation include: Creative supervision uses tools such as imagery, objects, and metaphor to explore supervisee dynamics and client relationships. Techniques like using cards, sand trays, or imagined roles help access material just beyond awareness. Creativity is a universal human capacity - not a test of artistic skill - and can ease defensiveness. These methods encourage richer supervision conversations and often lead to deeper emotional insight. Sally shares examples of how creative approaches brought clarity and transformation in her own practice. Practitioners are encouraged to explore creative methods gently and with supervision before introducing them to others. Talking to Clients About Being a Trainee Counsellor [starts at 1:01:54 mins] Rory and Ken address how to discuss your student status with clients while maintaining professional presence and self-assurance. Key points include: It is an ethical requirement to inform clients of trainee status - but how this is framed makes a difference. Using language like “placement counsellor” rather than “student” may reduce bias and increase trust. Clients are often more focused on their own concerns than on the practitioner's status. Confidence grows when students remember they were carefully assessed and deemed fit to practise. Placement provides strong layers of support: agency filtering, supervision, and ongoing training oversight. Framing this stage as the final phase of supervised professional development can reinforce your competence and role. Hey Friend, If you've been hitting a wall by mid-afternoon… craving sugar even though you're “eating well”… or feeling like weight loss just won't respond anymore— this episode was for you. In today's conversation, I slowed things down and walked through blood sugar stability—what it actually is, why it matters more than calories after 35, and why your body may not be working against you at all. In fact, it may be doing exactly what God designed it to do: protect you. Here's what we covered: What blood sugar stability really means (and what it doesn't) Why blood sugar is a communication system, not a standalone issue How stress, cortisol, hormones, and the nervous system are affected by unstable blood sugar Common signs your blood sugar may be swinging—without needing fancy testing Why weight gain after 35 isn't punishment, but feedback The role of consistent nourishment and protein in calming cravings and stabilizing energy Why this is a long-term stewardship issue, not a quick fix One of the most important reminders from this episode is this: Your body isn't broken. It's responding. When blood sugar swings up and down, your body compensates by raising cortisol, increasing fat storage, and staying on high alert. That's not failure—that's a safety response. And the good news? Communication can be supported. Patterns can change. Health can be restored—slowly and sustainably. Your next step (keep it simple): I've created a Simple Blood Sugar Foundations Guide to help you understand what your body is asking for without dieting, tracking, or overwhelm. This guide is available inside my membership, The Women's Functional Health Lab. The Lab opens February 13th, and waitlist members receive early access and bonuses (the price does not change). If this episode resonated, I strongly encourage you to get on the waitlist so you don't miss those extras. And remember—you don't need to fix everything.
