The 5 Love Languages is the name of a book by Dr. Gary Chapman and published in 1992. Ever since then, it has remained firmly on the NY Times Best Sellers List and we’ve all been captivated. In Dr. Chapman’s sessions with couples he discovered that every person ‘speaks’ one of 5 love languages; which basically means that when he/she is spoken to in this way, he or she feels emotionally connected. In this episode I am joined by therapist Melissa Risso, MA, LMFT, CST, who regularly uses the 5 Love Languages in her sessions with couples to better understand them, and to help her couples better understand themselves and each other. Melissa thinks this book is TRANSFORMATIVE and basically requires all her couples to buy it! Melissa breaks down each of the 5 love languages and gives us tons of examples of how each of the languages may express themselves within a relationship. Then she gives us tips and tricks for implementing the 5 Love Languages into our own lives (in our romantic relationships, friendships, work relationships, parenting, and even for ourselves). Next, I am joined by real-life married couple, Jen and Denton Sturdivan. Jen is a personal friend of mine and she and her husband, Denton, were first exposed to the 5 Love Languages 13+ years ago, when they went through premarital counseling. They found it to be such a helpful tool that they went on to lead and teach it to groups at their church. Jen and Denton are kind enough to share their respective love languages, and share some fantastic insight into how their love languages have changed over time (and how they’ve met each other’s changing needs), and how they show up well for their marriage. They also share some words to live by which they received through marriage mentors who have guided them over the years. To take the 5 Love Languages Quiz and learn more about your own, visit 5lovelanguages.com About Melissa Risso, MA, LMFT, CST: A prominent voice in the effort to reverse the stigma of how we learn about mental and sexual health, Melissa Risso has worked extensively as a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and AASECT (pronounced A-sect) Certified Sex Therapist throughout California. Cassie Kelley.  What a woman.  I have known and admired this lady for over 10 years.  I was an intern for her husband Charles (of Lady Antebellum) co-producer, Victoria Shaw, when Cassie and Charles first met and fell in love; so I got a front row ticket to their blooming love story.  I remember thinking Cassie was the most stunning, fabulous human I had ever seen.  So graceful, so stylish and so kind.  I still feel that way about Cassie today.  I have loved getting to know Cassie more over the years and seeing how soulful, giving, real and honest she is as a wife, mother, friend and business woman.  Sitting down and talking with Cassie for this podcast was nothing short of inspiring.  We talk about how she and Charles fell in love at first sight, Cassie and Charles infertility struggles and journey to parenthood, life on the road pre and post babies, and her travel blog WOMANISTA that she grew, partnered, and eventually sold to CBS (can we say badass)!!!  We also get real about body image and how she found relief from the pressure to be perfect.  Cassie is such a woman of faith and uplifts anyone who is lucky enough to be in her presence. Financial Fluency: How Women Thrive Outside of the 9 to 5
#111 What do you really want? with Hilary Silver

Financial Fluency: How Women Thrive Outside of the 9 to 5

As moms, daughters, friends, and wives, sometimes we all get pulled in so many directions by all of our different relationships that we can lose sight of ourselves and what we really want, both in the moment and in long game of our lives. This can look like everything from chronically saying "I don't know, whatever everyone else wants is fine with me" to looking around at your life one day and realizing that you aren't anywhere you ever really wanted to be. Your emotions, your reactions, your anxiety, your jealousy, your feelings about the things you encounter, these are clues you can use to find your way back to you so you can start to honor all of the relationships in your life by honoring the one you have with yourself first. This is the kind of work that Hilary Silver does. Hilary transitioned from brick and mortar counseling work to working online as a relationship expert and empowerment coach, both one on one and with groups, so she could reach more people who struggle both with their relationships with others and their relationship with themselves.   Here are a few tips from Hilary.   You can't have what you want in your life and your relationships if you don't know what that is and how to go after it and get it. A lot of people (moms anyone?) spend so much time taking care of everyone else around them that they lose touch with themselves so much that they don't actually know what they want anymore. So tip one is to figure out what you want. Need help? Go on to tip 2. Observe yourself. Watch yourself watch TV. What movies or commercials make you well up with tears or laugh out loud? What makes you angry or jealous? How do you feel when you watch shows about politics. Your emotions are your clues to the things that are most important to you. If you don't know what you want and don't ask for it, you end up feeling resentful and being unhappy. Once you learn your truth, learn how to speak it effectively without cutting people off or alienating the people who aren't used to you speaking your truth yet. Baby steps. If you feel resentful you haven't said something you want to say, or you are doing something you don't want to do, or you aren't doing something that you do want to do. You have control over what you say and what you do. You are responsible for making the changes required to get what you want and what you need in life. Say the things you want to say and do the things you want to do!   To find out more about Hilary visit her website at www.hilarysilver.com or follow her on social media Facebook Twitter YouTube Instagram   Bio   Hilary is a Relationship & Intimacy Expert and Master Coach.
