He learned how to cut and sew from the age of eight with any fabric he could find, going on to study fashion at Florence's Polimoda, New York's FIT, and London's Central Saint Martins. As creative director at Marni since 2016, Risso gained prominence by infusing the brand with vibrant colors, eclectic patterns, and playful aesthetics. His charming exuberance and unique ability to blend craft with modernity sets him apart and captivates audiences worldwide. What he sees as contemporary now is simple and uncontrolled by trends and a fast-paced industry: food and sex. Episode Highlights: Risso's early years were spent not talking in a hectic and blended family home in Genoa, where he communicated by making things with his hands. At 8 or 9 years old, he began making clothes, scavenging clothes from his grandmother's closet to cut and sew. Studying the classics and art, Risso “escaped” from his loud family by moving to Florence, knowing he would make clothes.  He found in the dance, clubbing, and rave scenes a way to escape from the constrictive traditional forces in Italy at the time when he considered himself goth and an outsider. “Provocative, and visceral, and obsessive.”: Risso talks about how he accepts a darker side of his outlook as a complement to his lighter and romantic side. He notes one of his mentors, Louise Wilson at Central Saint Martins, taught him to base a world around a garment without using typical fashion references.  Risso read a Virginia Woolf piece in which she invites her friends to the countryside and tells them not to bring clothes, as to leave behind a kind of social structure, and this inspired him to lose reference points.  On the secret of merging creative freedom with commercial success, Risso champions trust, pleasure, and courage,and living in the moment rather than for the final product. “Joy is something that requires work and commitment. It doesn't just fall on you like rain.” So says Francesco Risso, the creative director at Italian fashion house Marni, where he has been in post since 2016. For this episode, guest host Simon Chilvers speaks with Francesco and Carlos Nazario, the stylist with whom Risso works, about how they came to work together, and what inspires them.Founded in 1994 by Consuelo Castiglioni, Marni built a devoted following for its intellectual and artistically-minded approach to clothes. When Castiglioni stepped down in 2016, Risso was appointed as creative director, continuing the brand's legacy of cerebral design but with a renewed focus on beauty and craft. Before working for Marni, the Sardinian-born, Central Saint Martins-educated  Risso spent time working for Prada, Blumarine and Alessandro Dell'Acqua.Carlos Nazario is a New York-based stylist who was global fashion director of i-D magazine and former assistant of Joe McKenna, whose previous clients include Calvin Klein, Nike and Proenza Schouler, before being appointed style director at large for Harper's Bazaar.  

La Cámara de Diputados aprobó ayer en general un nuevo proyecto de financiamiento de los partidos políticos. Sin embargo, todavía no se llegó a un acuerdo sobre los artículos que obligan a los canales de televisión a otorgar espacios gratuitos para pautar publicidad electoral en el horario central en los períodos de campaña. Blancos y colorados entienden que si se introduce ese mecanismo el Estado debe compensar a los canales por la pérdida de facturación que implica la cesión de esos minutos. En medio de este debate, que ya lleva semanas, el abogado constitucionalista Martín Risso propuso directamente prohibir la propaganda político electoral en televisión. En una carta publicada en el semanario Búsqueda la semana pasada, Risso sostuvo que las soluciones que se discutieron hasta ahora para eliminar inequidades en la contratación de publicidad electoral en televisión no han sido “satisfactorias” e incluso han sido inconstitucionales. Pero además Risso agregó que la propaganda política electoral “no es relevante para la calidad democrática”. Según el abogado, estas piezas publicitarias sólo buscan agradar a los votantes “con candidatos sonrientes, música pegadiza e imágenes de niños que van a la escuela”, pero dicen poco o nada sobre las propuestas de cada partido o sector. Por estas dos razones, Risso propuso prohibir la propaganda política electoral en los medios audiovisuales de forma permanente y no sólo en los períodos preelectorales fijados por ley. De esta manera, explicó el constitucionalista, “se elimina toda diferencia económica entre los partidos en materia de publicidad en los medios audiovisuales y todos compiten en igualdad de condiciones”. En lugar de publicidad político electoral, Risso propuso “establecer que cada medio debe otorgar, en un cierto número de días antes de las elecciones, un espacio de media hora gratis, en horario central, para que comparezcan, por separado, los distintos candidatos de los partidos y expliquen su propuesta política”. Según este planteo, los medios sortearían con los partidos los días en que cada uno aparecería. ¿Qué dicen de esta observación? ¿Aporta la publicidad electoral a la calidad democrática? El secretariado Ejecutivo del PIT CNT aprobó ayer el texto de la reforma constitucional con el cual pretende modificar el sistema de jubilaciones y pensiones vigente. En particular, deja sin efecto el aumento de la edad de retiro incluido en la ley votada en mayo de este año en el Parlamento. Además, elimina la AFAPS y determina que "ninguna jubilación, ni pensión podrá ser menor al valor del Salario Mínimo Nacional". La papeleta establece que “el sistema de seguridad social se organizará y gestionará exclusivamente a través del Estado y de personas públicas no estatales”. Así, las AFAP deberán cesar sus actividades en un máximo de 24 meses y las personas que estén afiliadas a esas instituciones pasarán a ser cotizantes únicamente del BPS. Y se aclara que la entrada en vigencia de esta norma “no generará indemnización alguna por lucro cesante” para las administradoras privadas. En particular, la propuesta deja sin efecto el aumento de la edad de retiro, incluido en la ley votada en mayo de este año en el Parlamento. Además, elimina la AFAP y determina que "ninguna jubilación, ni pensión podrá ser menor al valor del Salario Mínimo Nacional". En la nueva redacción del artículo 67 de la constitución, la papeleta establece que "el sistema de seguridad social se organizará y gestionará exclusivamente a través del Estado y de personas públicas no estatales". Así "las AFAP (Administradoras de Fondos de Ahorro Previsional) deberán cesar sus actividades en un máximo de 24 meses y las personas que estén afiliadas a esas instituciones pasarán a ser cotizantes únicamente del Banco de Previsión Social". Se aclara, por otra parte, que "la entrada en vigencia de esta norma, no generará indemnización alguna por lucro cesante para las administradoras privadas". También el texto remarca que "ninguna jubilación ni pensión podrá ser menor al valor del salario mínimo nacional". Por último la iniciativa sindical plantea que "las personas tendrán derecho al acceso a la causal jubilatoria a los 60 años de edad y 30 años de trabajo o servicios sin perjuicio de las bonificaciones y sistemas de cómputos especiales que establezcan leyes especiales y que resulten más beneficiosos para el trabajador. Ahora el texto de la papeleta debe ser sometido a votación el jueves 6 de este mes en la Mesa Representativa nacional ampliada del PIT-CNT donde el texto podría eventualmente experimentar algunos ajustes. ¿Qué impactos tendría esta reforma? Cetaceans (whales, dolphins, and porpoises) are beautiful creatures and they display a number of different behaviours that we often like to watch. The behaviours are usually friendly ones such as bow riding or breaching the water giving us a spectacular show.
