We all have limitations and constraints, and they are not a reflection of our love or care. When we recognize this, we learn not to take things so personally. When we recognize this, we learn to discern who can help us in the moment – which friend to call, where to get the support you need. You can absolutely fill your bucket, and there are people who can help you fill it. There are also people who can't – but maybe they can help you hold the bucket, or repair the hole in the bucket, or maybe they feed you or help in other ways. This is our invitation not to pigeon-hole the people who love you. Knowing what you want and need is an important part of living a fulfilling life. It's also important to be able to communicate, AND to be understanding and compassionate for the limitations of others. In this episode we talk about all of the above, and making meaning from our lives and our stories. More of what we talked about: 0:08 Body practice 5:51 The importance of being aware of your needs in your friendships 11:40 How sharing can change the way we interact with our parents 16:53 What was it like to go from not sharing anything to sharing everything 21:20 The importance of finding meaning in the hard things in your life 30:40 How saying “no” helps people trust you more 41:05 How do facts impact us? Today our focus is alignment in relationships, which quickly led to one of my favorite topics, the five love languages. I've always felt they were a valuable tool since I first discovered them fresh out of college. They do a lot to help you understand what you need so that your keep feels full and to understand that others around may need different things so that they can feel loved. We mostly speak about it in romantic relationships but touch on other applications and once you dive into this concept, there are many places that you can apply it as well.Bethany is our guest leading us in this conversation and she also talks about shared vision in relationships and understanding where you and your partner see yourselves and making sure you are on the same page. Throughout this conversation, you'll see glimpses of the years I spent being a bit of a skeptic of the immense beauty and benefit having the right relationship can bring to your life. I am very blessed and grateful for the relationship I have and Bethany and I both talk a little about how limiting beliefs is the biggest thing that kept me and many others from having relationships that give so much back to their life and wellbeing. Bethany Ann is a love and relationship coach who specializes in helping divorced women find love again. She empowers them to attract divine, aligned love into their lives without the chase of dating apps. She works with them to rewire self-limiting beliefs and restore self-confidence and trust. Having been on her own spiritual journey for the past 5 years, Bethany understands what it takes to move from a place of fear and lack into a place of love and light. With over 10 years in the medical field, Bethany took her love of serving and helping others into a different space. Coaching was a natural fit for her, as her friends and family constantly turned to her for advice. You can often find her with her nose in a book, on the beach, or spending time with her family.Bethany's Divorced Moms Date without Apps FB Group:https://www.facebook.com/groups/findyoursoulmate22Connect with Bethany on IG: https://www.instagram.com/bethanyanncoach/ Things we referenced in the show:The 5 Love Languages Quiz:https://5lovelanguages.com/quizzes/love-languageBook-The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lastshttps://bookshop.org/a/We'd love to connect more with you.Grab your copy of our Self-Care Coloring Pages & get added to our mailing list. https://ColoringPages.TheGritShow.comFollow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/The.Grit.Show/Our Website has more information about us, all of our episodes, and all the transcripts:TheGritShow.com Are you ready to take that next step in your self-care journey? I asked instagram if they had any suggestions for podcast topics and by popular demand, this subject kept coming up. So here we are today to talk about how to make time for romance when you have kids. Jesse and I both share what we feel works best for us, how knowing our love languages helps in certain situations. But we are also willing to meet each other in a certain space when one of us needs it. This could be helping with kids or giving me the 5 minutes I need. It's about being creative, working with what you have, but also being open to communication, with ourselves and with each other. Jesse and I are on the same page this week with what has been saving our lives, it involves exercise. And we have updates on what we are currently reading. I share an experience I had and the outcome by using the tools I learned from a previous book we discussed on the podcast. We love hearing from you guys, if you have any suggestions send us an email and look forward to hearing your thoughts. In This Episode [00:34] - Welcome to another episode of The Crystal Paine Show. [02:00] - Jesse tells us what is saving his life and explains some of the exercises. [05:50] - The mystery is solved as to why the treadmill has been moved in some odd way. [06:50] - The weather has been really nice and I have been itching to be outside. [07:55] - I share an update on what I am reading. [09:35] - I received an upset message on instagram from a follower and I shared my honest response. [11:30] - I think so often that people just want to be heard. [12:20] - Jesse has an update on a book that he has been listening to. [14:47] - Jesse and I have different viewpoints on conspiracy theories. [15:39] - Making time for romance when you have kids. [16:25] - The number one key to making time for romance is prioritizing it. [17:04] - One of the greatest gifts I can give my kids is a strong marriage. [18:45] - You do have to be intentional, you can't just let something happen. [21:22] - Getting creative with what you have. [24:15] - The glue that holds our marriage together is laughter. [26:22] - We love to exercise PDA in front of our kids. [27:20] - We talk a lot. Or maybe Jesse listens and I talk! [30:25] - Learning to communicate about communication has been helpful. [32:27] - Having things that we do, with just the two of us. We all, at some point or another, want love shown to us in a certain way, and yet show love to others based on how we prefer to love. Why? Because we know love as WE see it, as WE feel it, but we don't always think about how someone else receives love. Today on Holly's Highlights podcast, we are going to take a look at the five different love languages, how to communicate them, and actions to take as result of what we learn today. This episode brought to you by: American Heart AssociationFor more information, contact:Jennifer Merback801.205.2489jennifer.merback@heart.orgwww.GoRedForWomen.orgResources from today's episode on Holly's Highlights:5 Love Languages Quiz at www.5lovelanguages.comRelated Holly's Highlights podcast episodes:Season 1, Episode 3 - Valentine's Day and Relationships with Focus on the FamilySupport the show

This week we are praying for connection with our kids. We are praying we discover what makes our kids feel loved and that we will find creative new ways to connect with them. ACTION STEPS: 1) Make family time, one-on-one dates, and connecting a priority above everything else. 2) Take the 5 Love Languages Quiz for yourself and see if you can get your kids to do it. 3) Pray with me this week on Prayers From a Mom Podcast. 4) Listen to what your kids are saying when they are upset with you or others. What hurts them the most? Being left out or forgotten (quality time) You said something mean (words of affirmation) Someone didn't do something they promised (acts of service) You never hug me anymore (physical touch) She didn't buy me anything for my birthday (gifts) FOCUSED PRAYER: Father, I am so grateful for the kids you have given me. I know I am blessed to be their mother. Help me discover creative ways to encourage and motivate my children in acts of love and compassion. Show me how to express my love in beautiful ways they can receive and feel connected to me. Help me prioritize time with my family above other worldly distractions and obligations. Lord, I don't want to be led by the passion of my emotions that lead me to hurt my family, instead fill me with your spirit so I can show love and grace. In Jesus Name, Amen! SCRIPTURES TO PRAY THIS WEEK: Hebrews 10:23-25 23 So now wrap your heart tightly around the hope that lives within us, knowing that God always keeps his promises! 24 Discover creative ways to encourage others and to motivate them toward acts of compassion, doing beautiful works as expressions of love. 25 This is not the time to pull away and neglect meeting together, as some have formed the habit of doing. In fact, we should come together even more frequently, eager to encourage and urge each other onward as we anticipate that day dawning. Ephesians 4:23-32 23 But don't let the passion of your emotions lead you to sin! Don't let anger control you or be fuel for revenge, not for even a day. 27 Don't give the slanderous accuser, the Devil, an opportunity to manipulate you! 28 If any one of you has stolen from someone else, never do it again. Instead, be industrious, earning an honest living, and then you'll have enough to bless those in need. 29 And never let ugly or hateful words come from your mouth, but instead let your words become beautiful gifts that encourage others; do this by speaking words of grace to help them. 30 The Holy Spirit of God has sealed you in Jesus Christ until you experience your full salvation. So never grieve the Spirit of God or take for granted his holy influence in your life. 31 Lay aside bitter words, temper tantrums, revenge, profanity, and insults. 32 But instead be kind and affectionate toward one another. Has God graciously forgiven you? Then graciously forgive one another in the depths of Christ's love. Most of us have, at least, heard of the 5 love languages. This notion comes from a book, titled: The 5 Love Languages, by Dr. Gary Chapman. He leans on his decades and decades of experience with pastoring and marriage counseling. The 5 Love Languages thesis isn't exactly a scientific thing, but, rather, an observation. Knowing what your love language is — and taking the time to learn others' — not only helps with romantic relationships, it helps ALL relationships. Thank you to our sponsor Talkspace.com!! The 5 Love Languages: 1) Words of affirmation The way you feel love is when people express their affection or appreciation for you / to you through either spoken or written words. 2) Acts of service People show they respect you through their actions. 3) Receiving gifts Expressing love and admiration for others by little symbolic gifts or gestures. 4) Quality time Feeling recognized when people give you their undivided attention. 5) Physical touch This is not necessarily what you're thinking.
