In this episode, we asked two remarkable women to join us and talk about what so many may be coping with during the holidays -- Grief. The impact of grief during the holidays can be crippling, whether experiencing the holidays for the first time without a loved one or grieving the loss of a relationship. We thought it essential to bring on guests who could give you practical tools that you can apply today to navigate grief during the holidays. Our guests not only share valuable tools but, we take a deep dive into the effects of grief on your body, mind, and spirit that help give you a better understanding of what may be taking place in your life now. Heartthrob Access has been recognized by Tabatha Brown and other social media influencers like I AM Zoie. Heartthrob Access's mission is to share love after loss by honoring loved ones, acknowledging grief, and supporting others. As the child of a single parent, Helena's mother was all she had. She was her provider, protector, and best friend. When she unexpectedly died at the young age of 33 from complications with asthma, Helena was 14 and had no experience losing a loved one. When her family arrived at school to tell her that her mother had passed away, she heard the words but did not know what they meant. It didn't register until months later that she would never see her again. Due to factors surrounding her mother's death, she did not have the support that she desperately needed. In 2016, after an unexpected breakup, she began to do some self-reflection. She realized after every disappointment, failure, or bad experience the pain from losing her mother would resurface. She knew she needed to open up and allow healing to take place. She also knew that her mother would not want to be the source of her pain. She wanted to find a way to express her love for her mother and decided to start Heartthrob Access. This brand is a way to pay homage to her mother while supporting others who lost loved ones. In this episode we chat with the beautiful & inspiring Xanthia about her journey to freedom and self-love. She speaks about her experience and struggles of entering a cult at a very young age, from being pushed into an abusive marriage at 19 with someone 10 years older to how she managed to break free. After that, the world was her oyster (literally $$) and she was able to live freely studying Psychology by day and being a badass STRIPPER by night. She found empowerment on stage and passion off of it, using her degree to make peace with her trauma and help people in their own vulnerable situations.
Featuring top stories written and recorded by students at KPS. Our producers select a range of stories each week and have the authors record them for the show. This bonus episode is a compilation from our 2019 archive. Producers/Hosts were Xanthia and Thomas.
After calamity struck the citizens of Xanthia found themselves frozen in time, statues of flesh and blood strewn about the citadel and the marketplace and the homes and the stables. Outside the walls of the Great City, denizens of the countryside found their lives mostly unchanged, save for a harsh and ominous wind that brought with it the same recurring nightmares. Each morning the farmers would gather in their halls and confirm amongst themselves that yes, they’d all shared the same horrid dream: A dark force, twelve ancient crystals, and a power unholy to wrest them from their plot within Xanthia’s royal vaults. Most resigned to their fate whole-cloth, prepared themselves and their homes for the incoming havoc. But one brave soul stood apart from the rest, one timeless adventurer rejected the nightmares of the wind and decided to take up arms against the spectral dark. Yep that’s right gang, it’s Dragon Quest XI, and this time QBert is in it. Games Discussed: Dragon Age XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, Steep, Nier Automata

When her 5-year old son was first diagnosed with a life-altering disease, the first question Star Bobatoon asked was, “Why me?” Several years later she discovered the answer: so she could - from a place of experience and compassion - support, empower, and inspire other parents who have children with special needs. Welcome back to Therapy Chat! This week, returning guest Xanthia Johnson, a DC area psychotherapist, talks about a coaching program she co-founded called the Compassionate Anti-Racism Project. Xanthia shares how she works with individuals, groups and organizations, describing how the program is designed to prevent the emotional flooding of shame interfering with white bodied people's progress toward their goals. As black integrative neuro-psychotherapists with extensive post graduate professional training in trauma-focused therapy and expressive arts, Xanthia and her co-founder Christian are primed to help others realize the emotional and intellectual awareness needed to understand racism, so the journey to ani-racism can begin. They compassionately support white people and organizations who are ready to have courageous conversations about race and learn how to leverage their privilege to humbly support people of color. In this conversation you'll hear Xanthia explain what she means when she says that she doesn't believe in micro-aggressions. She explains how internalized racism shows up in everyday interactions between white-bodied people and People Of Color, using examples from her daily life. When it came up in our interaction and I did harm, she compassionately supported my reflection and invited me to reconsider my actions in real time, modeling how her program would work with a similar situation. The work of becoming anti-racist requires building tolerance for the cognitive dissonance that arises when we white bodied people are confronted with aspects of ourselves we are ashamed of. Learn more about the Compassionate Anti-Racism Project here.Visit the website for Xanthia's group practice, Urban Playology, here. The Cleo Wade poem Xanthia shared is called "How to Breathe When You Want To Give Up."
