Welcome to the show for February 2011, Season 6, Episode 2. This episode's pattern is a classic of American trout fishing. Polly Rosborough was a pioneering angler who followed his muse to the mountainous west, where he introduced the rapidly growing throngs of fly anglers to the art of the fuzzy nymph and the effectiveness of tying "in the round". Polly's flies are universally effective, but perhaps none more than the Causal Dress. Please join us at www.flyfishohio.com where you can download all our new patterns in 720p!
Welcome to the show for December 2010. That's Season 5, Episode 12 if you're keeping track. Our fly today is a simple killer for smallmouth and largemouth bass, crappie and perch. I've got no doubt it can wreak havoc on minnow-eating white bass, stripers and trout, too! This is Shannon's Streamer, a pattern from Rich McElligott of the Illinois Smallmouth Alliance, and it's a dandy! Designed to imitate a Yamamoto Senko or Shade Shape Worm, this is the fly fisher's equivalent of a dead-stick bait. You'll need to carry these in your kit if your heading out to any warm water destination. It's about as productive a patterns as we've ever seen! Welcome to the show for January 2011, Season 6, Episode 1. Today we'll tie Fishy Fullums bonefish fly. Fishy demonstrated this fly at the January 2011 Somerset Fly Fishing Show in New Jersey. It's brilliant! You'll love the use of "double truck" bead chain eyes and Flexi-Floss "hackle". Try this fly for carp! Welcome to the show for November 2010. If you've been following this series, you know that we focus on "fishing" flies over "pretty" flies. To that end, a good fishing fly is easy to tie, uses easy to find materials, catches many species of fish and works under a variety of conditions. When a fly exhibits all those attributes and incorporates a touch of orange, it really gets our attention. The Carrot Nymph is just such a fly. It's an awesome bluegill and bass nymph, but if you toss it in front of a feeding carp you'll experience the fishing version of a pot-head at a Dorito's convention! If you'd like to see this video in high-definition, please join us at www.flyfishohio.com where you can download all our new patterns in 720p!
Welcome to the show for October 2010. Jack Gartside was a true character of the fly fishing fraternity. A creative tier and "out of the box" thinker, Gartsides patterns are known for simplicity, motion and their suggestive nature in the water. The Gartside Softhackle Streamer is an amazingly productive fly tied of two materials and thread. Simple to tie, devastatingly effective and imitative of many different food items, this is a fly that deserves a place in any angler's kit. If you'd like to see this video in high-definition, please join us at www.flyfishohio.com where you can download all our new patterns in 720p!
Welcome to the show for September 2010. The Alexandra is a beautiful wet fly that dates from the middle of the 19th Century, named for Princess Alexandra of Denmark. By 1929 the Alexandra had found its way to North American and morphed into a streamer fly. Hard Brothers, being a supplier of fine fly fishing gear including flies, created a variation of the Alexandra the went onto become a productive sea trout fly in the UK and Europe. The Hardy Brother Demon may have a long and convoluted history, but it's a fly that still can catch fish if you tie one on your tippet. Easy to tie, amazingly productive and beautiful to look at, it's a fly everyone needs to carry. If you'd like to see this video in high-definition, please join us at www.flyfishohio.com where you can download all our new patterns in 720p!
Welcome to the show for August 2010. Our fly this month is Harry Murray's Strymph. The strymph is a productive conflagration of a wooly bugger, Shenk's white streamer and a buggy fur nymph like the Casual Dress. Full of internal motion and translucency, this Strymph can be fished as both a streamer and a nymph. It's one fly you can leave on your tippet all day - and fi you're fishing for smallmouth bass it's just about all the fly you'll need! If you'd like to see this video in high-definition, please join us at www.flyfishohio.com where you can download all our new patterns in 720p!
Welcome to the show for July 2010. Our fly this month is Vincent Marinaro's Jassid, a true classic! First revealed in the 1950 opus A Modern Dry Fly Code, Marinaro's Jassid is intended as an imitation of a leaf hopper. It's also an excellent beetle imitation and works anytime trout are keyed on terrestrials. Welcome to the show for June 2010. Our fly this month is an import from Tierra del Fuego. The Chile Pepper is another "Killer" style of streamer. The Killer, which we first saw in the Mrs. Simpson of the last episode, is a pattern tied using cape or breast feathers tied parallel to the hook shank and veiling the body of the fly. The Chile Pepper uses the beautiful and unusual body feathers from the golden pheasant to create a fly that has a fiery inner glow. Try this pattern in size 4 or 6 for autumn brown trout or summer bass! The Chile Pepper will add some productive spice to your streamer book! Welcome to the show for May 2010. Our fly this month is a saltwater pattern created by Dan Blanton. Originally an adaptation of a West Coast salmon fly, Blanton created the original Fatal Attraction to serve as the fly rodders "rooster tail" all purpose attractor. Ward Bean, of Warm Water Fly Tyer reinterpreted the fly as a baby bluegill imitation. With the release of the "Firetiger" holographic flash, this pattern really has become a great imitaiton of a baby pumpkinseed sunfish, a ubiquitous warm water citizen. Fish this one all summer long for picky smallmouth and largemouth bass! If you'd like to see this video in high-definition, please join us at www.flyfishohio.com where you can download all our new patterns in 720p!
Welcome to the show for April 2010. Our fly this month is from New Zealand. Named for the Duchess of Windsor, the Mrs Simpson is a "Killer" style of fly. The Killer is a pattern tied using cape or breast feathers tied parallel to the hook shank and veiling the body of the fly. The Mrs. Simpson has a reputation as a fly that fools difficult trout, but it's a good choice for bass and panfish, too! If you're ready to show the fish something different, this is a great place to start. The Mrs Simpson is a pattern illustrative of a style of tying that's seldom used in North America. If you fish this fly, you'll wonder why you haven't seen it before. It really is a killer! If you'd like to see this video in high-definition, please join us at www.flyfishohio.com where you can download all our new patterns in 720p!
Welcome to the show, It's March 2010. This month we'll share one of our favorite smallmouth bass patterns. Bob Clouser's Foxee Red Clouser is an excellent pattern for both bass and trout. A few modifications can actually make it even more productive for smallmouth. This is a great imitation of a soft-shell crayfish or a johnny darter, both top smallmouth meals. Tie a few of these and take them to the creek. We're confident you'll find this version of the Foxee Red to be nothing short of amazing! If you'd like to see this video in high-definition, please join us at www.flyfishohio.com where you can download all our new patterns in 720p!

It's a top producer! If you'd like to see this video in high-definition, please join us at www.flyfishohio.com where you can download all our new patterns in 720p!
Welcome to the show, It's November 2009. The pattern we'll share today was designed by the originator of the Elk Hair Caddis as an imitation of a baitfish common to both trout and smallmouth bass streams. It was designed to fool wary Madison River browns, but its one of the best smallie flies you'll every cast - especially in the early season. This is one you need to carry!

It's rare to see this fly used in a warm water environment, but that's too bad for those who don't try new things. The Czech method of fishing close-in with a weighted fly presented on the bottom is just as effective for smallmouth bass as it is for trout. You'll want to tie a few of these in assorted colors and sizes, it's a "go to" pattern!/
