"Be angry, and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger." Ephesians 4:26. As followers of Christ we have to be "long nosed". We don't need to stew in our feelings but rather be patient with ourselves, take it to God, and then seek closure and understanding.

Dr. Jenkins sits down with Dr. Andrew Holycross to discuss one of the rarest rattlesnakes in the United States. They start by talking about the species' distribution, which is primarily in Mexico, and focus on the two subspecies found in the United States: the Arizona and New Mexico Ridge-nosed Rattlesnakes. The beginning of the podcast covers the natural history and ecology of the species, including movement, habitat use, genetics, and diet. They then discuss the various threats that have led to the New Mexican subspecies becoming endangered and declines in the other subspecies. Finally, they talk about the future of these Sky Island Rattlesnakes in the face of climate change, including management techniques such as genetic augmentation and assisted migration. On this week's episode of Drinks At Work, we've got deep, deep expertise. I'm talking to the master blender for The Glendronach, Dr Rachel Barrie, about her career — she has, as she says in the chat here, nosed somewhere around 170,000 barrels of whisky to date. That is just a crazy number of whiskies to have been exposed to in one lifetime. We talk about what a week in the life of a master blender looks like, and we get into the new campaign for The Glendronach, which is all about Raising Expectations.

Shine bright like a Star Nosed Mole! The star-nosed mole (Condylura cristata) is a small semiaquatic mole found in moist, low elevation areas in the northern parts of North America.[3] It is the only extant member of the tribe Condylurini and genus Condylura, and it has more than 25,000 minute sensory receptors in touch organs, known as Eimer's organs, with which this hamster-sized mole feels its way around. With the help of its Eimer's organs, it may be perfectly poised to detect seismic wave vibrations.[4]The nose is about 1 cm in diameter with its Eimer's organs distributed on 22 appendages.[5] Eimer's organs were first described in the European mole in 1871 by German zoologist Theodor Eimer. Other mole species also possess Eimer's organs, though they are not as specialized or numerous as in the star-nosed mole. Because the star-nosed mole is functionally blind, the snout was long suspected to be used to detect electrical activity in prey animals,[6] though little, if any, empirical support has been found for this hypothesis. The nasal star and dentition of this species appear to be primarily adapted to exploit extremely small prey. A report in the journal Nature gives this animal the title of fastest-eating mammal, taking as little as 120 milliseconds (average: 227 ms) to identify and consume individual food items.[7] Its brain decides in approximately 8 ms if prey is edible or not. This speed is at the limit of the speed of neurons. These moles are also able to smell underwater, accomplished by exhaling air bubbles onto objects or scent trails and then inhaling the bubbles to carry scents back through the nose.[8]

(image source: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/583708801714650808/) Host Matthew Donald and guest co-host Laura Owsley discuss Simosuchus, an adorable little burrowing critter that despite its herbivory and cuddly appearance was actually an ancient crocodylomorph. I bet its death rolls would be so cute. From the Late Cretaceous, this 3-foot notosuchian lived alongside some big frogs and mammals as well as dinosaurs in their Madagascar home, which sounds nice. I wager they all got along and there were no killings or predation at all. They just all snuggled each other. That's my theory, I'll publish a paper on it shortly. Want to further support the show? Glenn was in the courtroom for the status hearing in Donald Trump's federal case in DC for attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Donald Trump's lead attorney, John Lauro, started out the hearing loud and then got even louder. Indeed, Judge Chutkan twice told Lauro to "take the temperature down." Glenn reviews the ins and outs of the court hearing and discusses why Judge Chutkan may have settled on a March 2024 trial date for Trump's DC case. Then, Rolling Stone reported that, "Jack Smith's Team Grilled Witnesses About Rudy Giuliani's Drinking." Giuliani's intoxication may actually be relevant to one of Donald Trump's possible defense tactics to the criminal charges for his attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election: an "advice of counsel" defense. A wonderful collection of charming stories about days spent afield with gundogs was published in 1938. The title was The Dog in Sport, and in it, author J. Wentworth Day wrote, “There were Ponto and Tanto, the two great, solemn-eyed, double-nosed Spanish pointers who lurked in a dignified way about the house, a gentle gloom upon their countenances. They were the grandchildren of the Spanish pointers owned by my great-grandfather, Robert Asplan, the little, old, dapper gentleman who wore black knee-breeches with stockings and silver-buckled shoes.” When I first read those lines I almost said aloud, “What the heck is a double-nosed Spanish pointer?” I'd heard about Spanish pointers; they were said to be the granddaddy of the modern (English) pointer. But “double-nosed”? What was that? A nose that did double duty, air scenting and tracking? Or did double-nosed describe a physical feature? Searching the literature, I eventually found out. Freeman Lloyd, a noted American journalist, wrote in an issue of the AKC's Gazette magazine published in the 1930s that some dogs had noses “like the double barrels of a shotgun.”

January 6th Tour Goer Faces 20+ Years After Sham Trial and Trump Impersonator Performs "Hunter the White-Nosed Crackhead" January 6th Tour Goer Faces 20+ Years After Sham Trial Stinchfield with Grant Stinchfield Jan 16 2023 The January 6th defendants face unimaginable consequences. One man, John Strand, now faces 20 plus years in prison for his un-organized tour of the capitol. He is not accused of any violence or property destruction. He was working as security for America's Front Line Doctors founder Simone Gold. They entered the Capitol with the OK from police. In fact police milled about as they walked through "The Peoples House." Dr. Simone Gold took a plea deal and received four months in prison. John Strand, knowing he is innocent of all charges, refused to take a plea. A jury convicted him of all charges. His sentencing is now set for May, where he faces 23 years in prison. The punishment does not fit the crime. Especially when you look at the violence across the country, where the thugs and thieves are receiving little to no time. John Strand talks about being bold and his hope for a miracle come sentencing.
