To be clear, we recommend that most people do not sign in to Windows 11 with a local account as you will have a better–and safer–overall experience using a Microsoft account. But more sophisticated users who know what they're doing can use a local account securely. And doing so can eliminate some of the bad behaviors we see in Windows 11, in particular the silent, forced usage of OneDrive Folder backup. If you prefer using a local account, this episode can help you do so using the more secure possible configuration. Host: Paul Thurrott Want access to the video version and exclusive features? Windows 11 will cross two important milestones in October: Windows 11 version 22H2 will exit support and Windows 11 version 24H2–released in limited and unfinished form only with new Snapdragon X-based Copilot+ PCs in June–will be distributed more broadly to the entire user base, including the vast majority on traditional x64-based PCs. Now we have another choice when it comes to de-enshittifying Windows 11 in situ, if you will, or after you're already up and running. This one is not a typical app, however. It's a command-line script, written with PowerShell, that works with both Windows 10 and 11. And while I understand some are nervous about command lines, and even more nervous about scripts that need to be run with admin privileges so they can change your PC's configuration–both completely understandable–you should at least examine this thing. It's incredibly useful. Win11Debloat - https://github.com/Raphire/Win11Debloat Host: Paul Thurrott Want access to the video version and exclusive features? With the introduction of the first Snapdragon X-based Copilot+ PCs this past week, Microsoft has added another layer of complexity to the Windows ecosystem. Or, another layer of choice, if you're more of the glass half-full type. The passwords we use to protect our online accounts are insecure and easily compromised. For this reason, Microsoft has been working with industry partners for decades to create and standardize new ways to reduce our reliance on passwords and improve the security of our accounts and the private data they contain. The ultimate goal is to eliminate passwords all-together: In this passwordless world, we can authenticate–prove who we are–using methods that are more secure and easier than typing a password.
