Send us Fan Mail"For the next month or so, I'm going to take a break from podcasting. My sleep schedule has become seriously disrupted, and I've also been dealing with pain in my hands and arms. Before I continue creating new episodes, I need to focus on my health, work with my doctor, and become more proficient with Voice Control and some other accessibility tools.  I have an appointment with my doctor the beginning of next week, and I look forward to zeroing in on solving some of the problems that have made it all but impossible for me to do a podcast now.I have no intention of disappearing. In fact, I have more ideas than ever— I have several projects waiting in the wings. And I want to get to the point, where I can completely do an episode solely using voice control. But for the moment, the most creative thing I can do is take care of myself.Support the showThank you for experiencing Celebrate Creativity.

Discover how AI is reshaping accessibility, voice control, and wearable tech in 2026. Steven Scott and Shaun Preece break down a whirlwind of tech news. The episode opens with Elon Musk's failed lawsuit against Sam Altman and OpenAI, explaining why the jury dismissed the case and what it means for OpenAI's potential $10 trillion IPO. They highlight the reputational consequences for Altman and how investors may be reading the trial transcript closely. Then the show dives into the impressive Voice Claw Real Time app, which allows users to control a Mac hands-free via iPhone or Apple Watch, combining real-time AI voice interaction with accessibility features like Apple's Voice Control. The hosts analyse practical use cases for blind and physically disabled users, while balancing the security and trust challenges of giving AI full access to your computer. The final segment covers the booming smart glasses market. While Meta and Google are surging ahead, Apple is reportedly preparing to enter the space, with designer acetate frames, AI-powered navigation, and potential AirPods with infrared cameras. The conversation explores how Apple's success will hinge on Siri's evolution and Apple Intelligence integration. ----Follow on:YouTube: https://www.doubletaponair.com/youtubeX (formerly Twitter): https://www.doubletaponair.com/xInstagram: https://www.doubletaponair.com/instagramTikTok: https://www.doubletaponair.com/tiktokThreads: https://www.doubletaponair.com/threadsFacebook: https://www.doubletaponair.com/facebookLinkedIn: https://www.doubletaponair.com/linkedinSubscribe to the Podcast:Apple: https://www.doubletaponair.com/appleSpotify: https://www.doubletaponair.com/spotifyRSS: https://www.doubletaponair.com/podcastiHeadRadio: https://www.doubletaponair.com/iheartAbout Double TapHosted by the insightful duo, Steven Scott and Shaun Preece, Double Tap is a treasure trove of information for anyone who's blind or partially sighted and has a passion for tech. 195: WWDC 2026 Promises Apple Intelligence and Siri Upgrades

On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we discuss Apple's WWDC 2026 keynote date, the sweeping Siriredesign coming in iOS 27, Apple's latest accessibility feature previews, and the hinge troubles reportedly plaguing the foldable iPhone ahead of its expected launch in the fall.Apple this week confirmed its ‌WWDC 2026‌ keynote for June 8 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, with the conference running through June 12. The event is expected to introduce ‌iOS 27‌, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27, with developer betas available immediately after the keynote and public releases following in September. The focus is expected to be on Apple Intelligence and AI advancements across its platforms. No major hardware announcements have been rumored for the keynote, but we are overdue seeing a new "homeOS" platform for a tabletop or wall-mounted smart home hub, though launch timing remains unclear.Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that ‌iOS 27‌ will bring a sweeping ‌Siri‌ redesign, evolving the assistant into a full chatbot designed to compete with ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. For the first time, ‌Siri‌ will apparently have a dedicated app, showing a grid or list of past conversations with support for favoriting, searching, and starting new chats, all using iMessage-style chat bubbles.‌Siri‌ will also purportedly be integrated into the Dynamic Island, where triggering it will show a "Search or Ask" prompt with a glowing cursor; results appear as a translucent card, and pulling it down opens a full conversation mode. ‌Siri‌ is set to replace Spotlight search, though Suggestions will remain and gain access to more user data.Users will be able to set chats to auto-delete after 30 days, one year, or never. The app could also launch labeled "beta" despite years of development, and is powered by Google Gemini, though Apple is said to be reluctant to emphasize that given Google's reputation as an advertising business.Separately, Apple this week previewed new accessibility features coming later this year, ahead of Global Accessibility Awareness Day, as is Apple's annual tradition. Among the highlights: VoiceOver Image Explorer uses ‌Apple Intelligence‌ to generate detailed descriptions of images, scanned bills, and personal records throughout the system; the Action button can now be used to ask questions about what the camera sees, with natural language follow-up supported; and Voice Control is getting a natural language upgrade that lets users describe on-screen elements in their own words rather than memorizing exact labels. Automatic captions for personal videos will also arrive, generated on-device for recorded videos, received from friends, or streamed online. The features are expected to launch with ‌iOS 27‌, iPadOS 27, ‌macOS 27‌, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27 in September. Finally, Apple's “iPhone Ultra" reportedly hit a new obstacle this week, after Weibo leaker "Instant Digital" posted that trial production has run into a serious hinge reliability problem. According to the leaker, the hinge is consistently failing Apple's quality control under high-frequency open and close testing, eventually producing audible rattling, and the issue "must be solved with absolute perfection, otherwise progress will remain stalled."That broadly aligns with a DigiTimes report from April that placed production one to two months behind schedule, with mass production now pushed from June to August. Bloomberg's Gurman has pushed back on a Nikkei report suggesting the device could slip to 2027, calling it "off base", and expects the foldable iPhone to land around the same time or soon after the iPhone 18 Promodels; if it does launch in September, supply is expected to be constrained, with some reports suggesting customer availability could slip as late as December. The foldable iPhone is rumored to be called the "iPhone Ultra" and is expected to start at over $2,000, with one report citing $2,500, which would make it the most expensive iPhone ever.Ready to tackle bigger problems? Send us Fan MailHello, and welcome to Celebrate Creativity. I'm George Bartley. In the last few episodes, I have been talking about Voice Control in a broader way — my own background, some of the reasons I care about it, and some of the larger philosophical questions behind it. What does it mean to use your voice to deal with a machine? What does it mean in terms of independence, creativity, and accessibility? But now it is time to move a little closer to the ground.Today, I want to talk about something very practical: how Voice Control comes with every recent Macintosh, how you turn it on, and what you are actually looking at when you face those settings for the first time.Because that first encounter can be a little unnerving.  I remember the 1st time I saw voice control on the MacIntosh. I saw it as something just for disabled people and felt that voice control could not possibly do much that was useful. And I must admit, that I gave up after about 30 seconds, and said this is not for me. I had some erroneous idea that it was impossible. But all that needed a little time on my part. It's not that it was badly designed. But simply because it was new.And new things often look more complicated than they really are.You go into the settings and suddenly you are looking at terms like language, microphone, show hints, play sound when command is recognized, overlay, fade overlay after inactivity, fade after, fade by, and Voice Control tutorial. And if you are a first-time user, you may think: what in the world am I looking at?And to be honest, even if you don't fully understand some of the settings by the end of this episode, you're doing about right. It takes a while to get your bearings, but it certainly is worth it.So that is what I want to do today. I want to slow it all down. I want to describe what the user is seeing, what those items mean, and how to think about them without getting flustered.Support the showThank you for experiencing Celebrate Creativity.

Send us Fan MailWelcome to Celebrate Creativity and the second part of Voice Control on the Macintosh: Why It Matters, and What It Feels Like to Learn It.I hope you realize by now that this podcast has been talking about the importance of voice control and some of the human elements involved in mastering the skills. So rest assured that in a few days, I will deal into the mechanics of voice control - in other words HOW use it. My philosophy of education it's not to try to dazzle you with information that might be hard to remember, but to carefully explain a concept. And then use tried and true educational concepts by going back and explaining that concept over and over in different ways - ways that help make that concept your own. In future episodes, I intend to talk about specific voice control commands, and even have imaginary visits from historical figures in the fields of computing and literature - individuals such as William Shakespeare, John Milton, Thomas Edison, Leonardo da Vinci, and the writer of the first computer program - Ada Lovelace.  But before you learn the actual information, I feel that you need to get the attitude towards learning and a different way of working down first. And that is the purpose of the previous and the following few episodes. Now let me come back to something I said earlier in a broader way: adaptation is not defeat.I think many people, when they first I'll say that I'd like for you to rest assured that in a few days I'm gonna deal with the mechanics of using voice control in other words and that certainly matters  find themselves needing a different way of working, feel that they are somehow moving backward. They may feel that because something old has become painful or difficult, they are losing ground. But another way to see it is that they are being asked to develop a new form of competence. And developing a new form of competence is not failure. It is growth.Support the showThank you for experiencing Celebrate Creativity.

Discover how indie developer Dani Devesa Derksen-Staats created RetroRapid, an accessible retro racing game, and Xarra, a flexible reading and listening app. Learn how thoughtful design, multiple input methods, and community feedback can shape more inclusive experiences across Apple devices. Shaun Preece talks to Dani Devesa Derksen-Staats, an indie developer based in London, about his transition from working at the BBC to building accessibility-focused apps in his spare time. His latest projects highlight how inclusive design can be applied across both gaming and productivity tools. RetroRapid is a retro LCD-style racing game available on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. Originally a side project, it evolved into a fully released title following feedback at the ARCtic conference. The game was designed with accessibility in mind, supporting multiple input methods including taps, swipes, keyboards, game controllers, and the Apple Watch Digital Crown. Dani explains how audio cues—assigning musical notes to each lane—help players build a mental map of the road, alongside haptic feedback and direct touch controls. Community feedback from AppleVis also played a key role in refining the experience. Dani also introduces Xarra, a newly launched app designed to support reading and focus. It allows users to import text, PDFs, and web content, combining audio playback with synchronised on-screen highlighting at line or word level. Built with accessibility at its core, Xarra supports VoiceOver, Switch Control, Full Keyboard Access, and Voice Control, while preserving image descriptions in audio. It also uses Apple Intelligence and Foundation Models to convert code blocks into natural language when listening to technical content. Relevant Links

Send us Fan MailHello - welcome back to How to Talk to Your Mac.  And this is  part one of Voice Control on the Macintosh: Why It Matters, and What It Feels Like to Learn It - in this and the following episode I want to talk about the philosophy behind voice control, and then we'll get into the specifics in future episodes. However, first, I'd like to apologize for the weeks this month when I have been unable to do an episode. For the first time in years, I think I have had computer problems when things would just not go the way I wanted. But no, I have not become a victim of pod fade, a term used to refer to a podcaster that just stops putting out episodes without any intention of continuing. And it looks like I'm going to be jumping right back into the game.In fact, this podcast just hit over 33,000 downloads across the world. Celebrate Creativity has now has reached listeners in 121 countries and territories — Not surprisingly, the majority of the downloads are in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Finland, and Singapore. I decided to forgo the third promo in this series–it didn't really say anything new about voice control itself, and–instead say a few words about why the use of voice control matters is so important. And I hope that when you really get into this podcast, you just might find that you can't see yourself using a computer without voice control.  It may seem somewhat hard at first, but you just might find that voice control becomes natural, and the fastest and most efficient way of using a computer.Support the showThank you for experiencing Celebrate Creativity.

Send us Fan MailNow I believe I mentioned that at one time I was doing up to two and three podcasts episodes a day.  As a teenager I had a series of epileptic seizures, and was told that I should not swim - but after I started taking a new medication at that time - Depakote - my seizures became a thing of the past. And I'll talk about a little bit more about that later.  I also started interpreting for the deaf, especially Shakespearean plays. And when I realized that I could swim safely, I started swimming 2 miles three times a week. Of course at the time I thought all this was cool, but I never thought about the fact that my activities were devastating my hands and fingers. I realized recently that I needed to take a break and learn a brand new way of communicating with a computer.  I don't mean to say this was just a choice I made - I would wake up in the morning with agonizing pain.So I decided to take that break - for the sake of my hands and arms - and especially because I know that so much of the information regarding voice control requires me to try out the steps myself and see if they work. I would hate to have to go back and say this will work but this doesn't really work. I want get it right the first time or as much as I can!  I wanna be sure and give you information that you can depend on!With something like Voice Control, the difference between sounding informed and being trustworthy is often very small on the surface, but enormous in reality.I hope that you will see the delay not as wasted time at all and I  I would like to think that listeners are not looking for just glossy theory. They are looking for someone who has gone into the weeds, made mistakes, tried the steps, hit the snags, and come back with something dependable.Because what I what I am building here are not just a series of episodes. I would like to think that along with the information, I am building credibility. A listener can forgive:“This took me a while to figure out.”“I had to test this several times.”But it is much harder for a listener to forgive advice that sounds certain and then fails the moment they try it.Support the showThank you for experiencing Celebrate Creativity.

Send us Fan MailHello this is George Bartley. And no, I have not fallen off the face of the Earth.  In fact, my podcast Celebrate Creativity - with its current emphasis on William Shakespeare was in high gear - at one point I was doing two and even three episodes a day. Currently Celebrate Creativity has over 32,000 episodes globally. But that rate of output really couldn't continue very long and I started experiencing excruciating pain in my wrists and hands. As a result, I became fascinated with a way of communicating with a MacIntosh that was totally new to me - a sophisticated way of dictating and controlling all the icons and buttons that you normally work with totally by voice.  So I am starting a new podcast series called how to talk with your MacIntosh - later on we'll get into operating iPads and iPhones by voice. And this is one podcast that I am really working hard on - because I definitely do not want it to be a series of flashy comments that end up teaching you nothing. After a bit of practice, I want you to be able to use your MacIntosh, almost as though you were talking with a friend.  In other words I want to show you vocal commands that work and are easy to use.  It may take practice, but it is sooooo worth it!My goal is to teach you how to sit back and tell your Mac what you want it to do using only your voice.  I have never worked as hard on a podcast, and plan to start the podcast on the first day of the lusty month of May.In the meantime I will have more promos on April the 10th, 17th, and 24th - each on a  Friday - regarding the buildup to this very important podcast - I want to be sure that you gain a strong foundation in learning Voice Control for a variety of reasons, not the least is that your hands will thank you.  And watching all those files and folders move across the computer screen to obey your voice it's about as close to magic as I have ever experienced! So join me May 1, 2026 for a solid introduction to voice control that combines the definitely practical with the seemingly magical!Support the showThank you for experiencing Celebrate Creativity.

Send us a textWelcome to Celebrate Creativity - Episode 412 - Talking to Your ComputerI guess you could say, in some areas, I can be sort of an overachiever. All the research papers that I had to do for undergraduate school thesis - amounted to almost 1000 pages - and my thesis for my masters degree was over 200 pages - and I had to revise it thee times - and each of my podcasts is at least 10 pages (I always like to have a planned script) and as you probably know I have had over 400 episodes - so that would easily be over 4000 pages - no wonder that a few weeks ago I started feeling my fingertips tangling from overuse. Naturally I went to an AI and explained my situation. It told me to immediately go to my doctor and explain the situation because any problem with nerve endings in the fingers can become very serious. In the meantime, I made an appointment and the first time I could get one was two weeks from then. I called a few days later to verify the appointment and they had no record of me calling - that was when I realized I needed to take matters into my own tingling hands!  But I still got an appointment for the following week.Anyway I started using Voice Control on the Macintosh computer to do my typing - or at least try to - I have not said anything about it earlier, because I didn't want to be one of those people who says I'm doing such and such when they give it up in a day or two - it was obvious that it was going to take some time to learn to use voice control comfortably - in other words, I want to be able to use it as fast or faster then I could type. And while I have not reached that point yet with all actions, there are certainly areas where I can use my voice and do things faster by saying them, and save that wear and tear on my fingers.Thank you for experiencing Celebrate Creativity.

Nicole draws a lively following of teens and young people who are inspired by her young, fresh attitude and easy to follow instruction. Being "mature" also makes Nicole an ideal teacher who inspires older students to let down their hair and rock without reservation.  Tulsa's first yoga studio was opened and operated for over 20 years by Nicole and her partner. She is considered, by many,  the OG of Yoga in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  She is wildly passionate, energetic and inspirational. She is a true motivator. She is known as a powerful leader within the yoga community. She offers exceptional yoga retreats. Raven Yoga Retreats encompass sacred spiritual practices, mindful living techniques, healing modalities, holistic health and yoga for beginners as well as seasoned practitioner in a tranquil environment. Shoot us a Text. We've got Michael Cirillo in the studio on this Monday, as we're talking about how its becoming harder for new auto dealers to secure floorplan loans, how Rivian has decided that voice control is better than physical buttons and how online customers are abandoning carts because of choice overload.Show Notes with links:New and smaller auto dealers face mounting difficulties in securing essential floorplan loans, a crucial step in dealership ownership. Amid rising interest rates and cautious lending practices, lenders are increasingly reluctant to finance smaller deals, affecting many hopeful first-time dealers.Banks and lenders now often require floor plans to exceed $10 million, and many first-time buyers are confronted with last-minute cash demands, sometimes needing an additional $250,000 to $1 million as collateral.Josh Letsis, aiming to buy a Chevrolet store, was denied floorplan loans by multiple banks and GM Financial, which required more cash on hand despite his strong credit. The deal's collapse cost him $60,000 in fees.Chad Chase faced a similar setback when Stellantis unexpectedly pulled out of financing, forcing him to scramble to keep his Chrysler-Ford store purchase alive. In the great button-versus-touchscreen debate, Rivian's Chief Software Officer Wassym Bensaid doubled down on voice controls as the future, saying in-car buttons are “an anomaly.”At TechCrunch Disrupt 2024, he noted that physical controls are “a bug, not a feature,” advocating that voice interactions should replace touch and physical controls. Rivian aims to make every vehicle function accessible by voice, with AI advancements potentially solving current issues in voice assistant technology. Many users remain skeptical, citing frustration with today's voice controls and concern about losing quick access to functions like AC adjustments and seat controls. On top of this, Bensaid called Apple CarPlay (which isn't available in Rivians) a “lazy” option that oversimplifies the UI, which Rivian plans to build out with proprietary, integrated software features. With endless options and extensive product information, today's online shopping experience can feel less like convenience and more like an exhausting chore. Research suggests that too much choice is paralyzing, creating a phenomenon some call “choice overload.”A recent Accenture survey revealed 74% of consumers abandoned online shopping carts due to feeling overwhelmed by choices and content.Top abandoned online shopping carts include clothing (79%), flights (72%), snacks (70%), home goods, and electronics.Psychologist Barry Schwartz's “paradox of choice” explains that while variety can make us happier initially, too many options complicate decision-making.Tools like filters and recommendations often backfire by introducing more factors to consider, which can make shopping fatigue worse, according to NYU's Raluca Ursu.Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email

We reviewed the SofaBaton X1 last november and felt it came close to being the Harmony Replacement. It worked but it still had some rough edges. Well, SofaBaton is back with the X1S ($189.99).  The X1S has enhanced performance and compatibility compared to the X1. The X1S boasts features like “Raise to Wake” and supports a vast array of devices, over 500,000 across IR, Bluetooth, and WiFi  thanks to its use of the “cloud code library”.  There is even a Smart SofaBaton App, that allows you to manage devices, personalize buttons and activities.  The X1S makes use of a hub that offers 360 degree control, 40 foot infrared range, and has support for IR blasters for devices in different rooms or in cabinets.  There is also support for hands free control with Alexa and Google Assistant, personalized macro buttons, and API integration allows for third parties to further expand on the X1S' capabilities. The X1S also has backlit buttons, and a 45 day battery. The full feature list is below: Features: SofaBaton X1S Universal Remote:  Enhanced performance and compatibility over X1  Supports 500,000+ devices (IR, Bluetooth, WiFi)  Includes powerful cloud code library Smart SofaBaton App:   Device management and customization   Favorite channel organization   Remote tracking and phone backup control Effortless OneClick Activities:   Initiates predefined device settings with one command   Example: "Music Time" activity for automated device control Powerful Hub:   360degree control   40foot infrared range   2 IR blasters for signal coverage   Can be hidden in cabinet Voice Control with Alexa and Google Assistant Personalized Macro Buttons:   Customizable key functions   Create sequences for complex operations API Integration:   Integration with other applications   Personalized control through simple configurations Highlight Design:   Raise To Wake function   Backlight buttons   Rechargeable battery lasting up to 45 days   Thumb scroll wheel for quick device switching Setup: The setup process started out intuitive, but it required additional effort and time to fine tune the configuration. The Harmony had some configuration issues too but the X1S was a little more cumbersome. Once you grasp the app's workflow you can work through the issues. The app provides a step by step guide to help you quickly connect your devices. Like other remotes you can personalize buttons and set up macros for specific functions allowing you to customize the remote to suit your preferences. It took me 90 minutes to get my system (AppleTV, Oppo UHD Player, SONY TV, and Yamaha Receiver) up and running. Like the Harmony, once you have added your devices you then create activities. Then you test and then you tweak and you finally get it dialed in. One oddity was how the remote dealt with power. It has a concept of the steady state of the power setting for each device, which I thought was odd. So our tip is just say that your devices are always powered off. Then go into the startup settings and add the power on command for your devices. Do the opposite for the shutdown settings. This caused me at least 30 minutes of grief in setting it up. But once the setup was done the remote worked flawlessly!  Performance: The SofaBaton X1S remote's build quality is top notch! And battery life is as advertised. The display is simple, clean and nothing fancy. I had to add delays between some commands for some activities to respond properly. The scroll wheel on the X1S is tighter and smoother than the X1, providing a more precise user experience. The inclusion of a USB C charging port allows usage while charging which is a nice added touch. Syncing commands from the phone to the remote takes a long  time which can be annoying while making tweaks to dial in the exact commands you want. But once it's set up you no longer have to worry about this.  Also, the battery charging level is only visible from the main screen. It would be nice if you could see it from any screen.  We have used the remote for over a week and the family approves. No missed commands, easy to use. I still like my Harmony a little better but I am confident that the Sofabaton will improve with better configuration software and become the replacement to the Harmony we have all been wanting! Pros: Pleasing design and buttons with solid tactile response. Backlit buttons are great for dark rooms. The IR blaster sends signals omnidirectional. Handy "find the remote" button. Cons: The setup process proved challenging, particularly concerning the power settings. An unusual default configuration involved separate power on and power off buttons for each device, such as my receiver and TV.  No Direct Number input No Dock for charging. Plugging in a cable is cumbersome Sync times are too slow The remote does not emit IR commands.
