Host Dave Sobel dives into the evolving landscape of cloud pricing and AI models, highlighting the significant shifts that are reshaping customer expectations. With rising cloud costs becoming a pressing concern for many organizations, Sobel discusses a report indicating that over a third of companies feel their transition to the cloud has not delivered the promised cost-effectiveness, while more than half are experiencing increasing bills. This backdrop sets the stage for a conversation about innovative pricing models, such as Zendesk's new AI pay-for-performance strategy, which charges customers only when its AI successfully resolves issues without human intervention. Joining Sobel is TC Doyle, a seasoned technology and channel expert, who provides insights into the historical context of cloud pricing. Doyle notes that while cloud costs have generally decreased in the past, the reality of rising expenses is now becoming apparent due to factors like increased energy costs, labor shortages, and heightened cybersecurity demands. He emphasizes the opportunity for solution providers to focus on cloud cost management, helping organizations optimize their cloud usage and avoid unnecessary expenses. The discussion then shifts to the mixed reception of Microsoft's AI assistant, 365 Copilot, which has seen low adoption rates among Microsoft 365 users. Doyle explains that customers are hesitant to embrace AI solutions when the value proposition is unclear and the technology does not seamlessly integrate with existing workflows. The conversation highlights the importance of well-defined use cases for AI, as successful implementations often stem from a clear understanding of how AI can enhance specific business outcomes. As the episode progresses, Sobel and Doyle explore the implications of recent political developments on technology policy, particularly in the wake of the presidential debate. They analyze the differing approaches of the Republican and Democratic parties regarding regulation, AI, and cybersecurity, emphasizing the potential impact on managed service providers (MSPs). The conversation underscores the need for clarity and consistency in regulatory frameworks to enable service providers to navigate the complexities of the evolving tech landscape effectively. Use your files, emails, chats and meeting information automatically or with direct references using Copilot prompts in Microsoft 365 apps. You don't need to copy information then paste it into a browser tool or upload work files and images into other generative AI experiences. Instead, directly from Teams, Word, PowerPoint and other Microsoft 365 apps, you can leverage not only your opened file, email, chat or meeting, but also other work data that you have permissions to in SharePoint and OneDrive. Copilot retrieves and synthesizes information across emails, chats, and files, so you can generate presentations, respond to emails, and catch up on meetings. The Copilot process also follows your organization's policies for data protection and compliance, eliminating the need and added risk of bringing your work data to those tools. Mary David Pasch, Principal Product Manager from the Copilot Platform team, joins Jeremy Chapman to share how Copilot enhances collaboration and efficiency, making complex tasks like document creation and information retrieval effortless and secure. ► QUICK LINKS: 00:00 - Leverage your work data with Copilot 00:51 - How Copilot augments your prompts 02:22 - Automatically works across your files 03:03 - Meeting recaps with Copilot in Teams 03:59 - Meeting summaries with Copilot in Teams 04:57 - Incorporate specific info from work data 06:53 - Convert written docs to PowerPoint presentations 09:07 - Recommended prompts 10:29 - Standalone Copilot chat experience 12:11 - Stay within your Microsoft 365 data security boundary 12:39 - Wrap up ► Link References For more go to Copilot Lab at https://copilot.cloud.microsoft Watch our full series on Microsoft Mechanics at https://aka.ms/M365CopilotMechanics ► Unfamiliar with Microsoft Mechanics? How do large language models fit into your organization? Richard chats with Ulrika Hedlund about the challenges sysadmins face with large language models in their company. Ulrika talks about how employees are already using large language models like ChatGPT - potentially risking leaking company data. Tools like Bing Chat Enterprise bring the same capabilities as ChatGPT but with a focus on keeping company data secure. Once you're comfortable with Bing Chat, you can explore Microsoft 365 Copilot, which can index company data as part of its model. Training is essential, as is good data protection management, but the productivity benefits can be huge!Links:Bing Chat EnterpriseMicrosoft 365 CopilotCopilot LicensingRecorded October 10, 2023
On this episode, Leo, Paul, and Richard discuss the big release of Windows 11 23H2, productivity in Macs vs PCs, Microsoft 365 Copilot arriving, changes in the Xbox and marketing divisions, iFixit support for Surface repair, and American rye whiskeys. 23H2 Surprise! Microsoft delivers the Windows 11 23H2 Update, which upgrades your Windows 11 version 22H2-based PC to version 23H2, much sooner than expected. Technically, Microsoft NEVER delivered the so-called "Fall Update," since it was only made available in preview form (twice, for some reason). So 23H2 is actually the first public release of those 150+ new features. The Windows 11 Media Creation Tool still installs 22H2. Because Microsoft. Workaround: Use the Windows 11 Installation Assistant. Which hilariously requires you to install the PC Health Check app. We need to discuss Microsoft Teams in Windows 11. And then literally never discuss it again. Microsoft is killing the Windows Insider MVP program. What exactly did it even mean to be an "MVP" in the Insider program? Dev: From last Friday, adds one new feature, a "Recently added" folder (for apps) in Start (in Recommended) Beta, from last Thursday: Two new features (gradual rollout): System components in Settings, Game Bar rebranding. Plus fixes. Windows 11 now has 26 percent usage share vs. 69 percent for Windows 10. Whatever happened to Windows 12? Bring external data into your Microsoft 365 Copilot experience to ground generative AI results using connectors and plugins. Use Microsoft Graph connectors to integrate the data sources you want with Semantic Index for Copilot. This option pre-indexes defined read-only information used for retrieval with your prompts to drive the most relevant AI-generated responses. Use managed and trusted plugins, such as OpenAI plugins, Microsoft Teams message extensions, and Power Platform connectors. Instead of pre-indexing information, plugins optimize for real-time API based data retrieval, and they can optionally write-back data. Mary David Pasch, Microsoft 365 Copilot Principal Product Manager, shares how both options follow Microsoft's comprehensive security, compliance, and privacy approach, while respecting defined boundaries within your organization's data services and can work together when responding to a single prompt. ► QUICK LINKS: 00:00 - Bring in external data with Copilot 01:08 - Use a connector and plugin simultaneously 02:45 - See how it works 03:56 - Semantic Index demo 04:55 - Data retrieval with Copilot using connectors 06:19 - Data retrieval with Copilot using plugins 07:23 - Plugins code and how they work 08:45 - Wrap up ► Link References For more information, check out https://aka.ms/CopilotExtensibility ► Unfamiliar with Microsoft Mechanics? Get information ready for search, put key prerequisites in place, and assign licenses to prepare for the next transformation in how we work with Microsoft 365 Copilot. Copilot leverages large language models that interact with your organization's data using the Microsoft Graph to generate personalized experiences with related context, reducing the steps to find the information you need and generate content. By design, Copilot respects user-specific permissions to any content or information it retrieves, and only generates responses based on information that users explicitly have permission to access. Join Jeremy Chapman, Director of Microsoft 365, as he shares admin steps to get started, by: 1. Getting your organization's information ready for search - with Just Enough Access permissions in place. This is a best practice, whether you plan to deploy Microsoft 365 Copilot or not. 2. Putting Microsoft 365 Copilot prerequisites in place. This includes the having the right Microsoft cloud apps and services running for each user with access to Microsoft 365 Copilot, and 3. Assigning Microsoft 365 Copilot licensing to users and groups to provide them access. And finally, with everything prepared and ready, it's important to have a plan in place to drive user adoption and optimize results by creating a center of excellence - as you would with other app and service - rollout to let people share easily share what's working best for them and find help from internal champions. ► QUICK LINKS: 00:00 - Introduction 01:48 - Step One: Get information ready to search 03:00 - Just Enough Access 03:34 - Tools to find info at risk for oversharing 04:54 - Step Two: Get prerequisites in place 06:00 - Step Three: Assign M365 Copilot licenses 07:20 - Establish a Center of Excellence 07:55 - Wrap up ► Link References: Prerequisites for Microsoft 365 Copilot and supported apps at https://aka.ms/M365CopilotPreReqs Hands-on support with Microsoft FastTrack services at https://fasttrack.microsoft.com ► Unfamiliar with Microsoft Mechanics? Willkommen bei unserer Mission New Work. New Rules. Also alles in meiner Umgebung, bleibt auch dort.
