M3 major steps to learning how to bend conduit If you follow these 3 steps in the order that I explain them. You will learn how to bend the correct way and by the time you start to actually bend conduit and using all 3 types of benders you will already have an understanding of the major parts of bending conduit. By learning the 3 major steps first before you start bending you can dedicate all your time to learning techniques and more advanced tips and tricks to conduit bending. You don't need to waste your time trying to figure out how to measure correctly or how to layout runs or what the multipliers or deductions are. You can just keep building onto your skills. Once you start to use the benders make sure to keep a little pad on you all the time. Especially when using the electric bender or hydraulic bender. You can keep notes to anything you feel you need to remember. You can write notes down to anything you want to write in your pad. Check out my Channel for the Full Video Also on all major podcast Definition Segment Bending - Making a Series of small bends in a pre-determined location on the conduit to fabricate a larger radius. n this video I educate you on the process of fabricating a segment bend. At first glance it might seem like a lot to do but its not. *IMPORTANT REMINDER* { Don't forget to add onto the radius for kindorf support or whatever other clearance you might add. This is important. } The steps are really easy to do you just need a little practice and patience. If you are working with EMT and you are able to cut it down to the measurement you want after you bend the stub. I advise you to make it a lot easier and just place your marks towards the middle of the conduit or where ever you decide and don't worry too much about finding the center of the degree of bend you choose because you can always cut it to the size you want afterwards. I gave you this formula so that you can also choose to bend more precisely, should you need to. For example when bending rigid conduit. Even though i'm telling you not to worry to much about some of these steps when bending EMT its still very good info to know so that if you ever need it you have the info on how to do it correctly. Formula Radius x 1.57 = Developed Length Dev. This 3 point saddle is a fast and easy way to bend a 30 degree saddle with a hand bender. Unlike the traditional method of bending a saddle this method we will be using all 3 major points on the hand bender. This bend will be a push-thru bend. Learn How to bend around a Rectangular obstruction with a compound 90 degree stub. In this episode I will teach you how to measure, layout, and bend a compound 90 degree stub accurately. By giving you the quick and easy formula for rectangular obstructions. There are 3 types of obstructions that you can use the compound 90 for and this is one of these most used out of all 3. Also a quick tip, if you happen to come by an obstruction that has none of the 3 shapes that i just mentioned then the best way to tackle that issue is to give it an imaginary shape obviously you want to use the formula that best suites the shape you are dealing with at the moment. Corner Offset, how to Accurately Measure, Layout and Bend. In this episode I will walk you through the process of how to bend a Unique bend called the Corner Offset that has long been lost and forgotten. It's a very useful bend to have in your arsenal trust me. It's not a bend that you will use everyday but when you finally do use it you will be glad you knew how to bend it. It's not a complicated bend anyone that can bend an offset should be able to make the bend. Also, I don't want you to think I made the bend up. It is an official bend from the NJATC training center. How to Derate - Ampacity Adjustments made simple for real life situations out in the field. So in this episode of Derating Simplified i will go through how to make ampacity adjustments for non-continuous load as well as continuous loads alike. I have to admit it wasn't easy trying to make this episode short or simple at all. It's really not that simple when you come to think of it and look at all the code references involved. But after doing a few examples or all different types of situations it becomes easier and easier. Specially out in the field when you actually need to put it to use. Rolling Offset - Easy Formula, Measure, Layout and Bend it Quickly and accurately. In this podcast I will show you how to do exactly what you just read above. Not only that but I give you a quick and easy method to do in case you don't have a calculator at hand, it's just as accurate and will not take you any longer than if you had a calculator. I know my podcast and video's are long but I believe that in order for you to learn how to bend accurately and quickly you first need to understand the formulas and know them by heart so that you can figure either your own way of using the formula or you learn it by heart through repetition. The key to being a great conduit bender is to always try to bend conduit better than the last piece of conduit you bent. I try to do that every day, I still try to come up with better ways to bend conduit. How to accurately bend the Goose Neck Not the shepherds Hook! In this episode I will teach you how to properly, measure, layout and bend a Goose Neck bend. Now let's not confuse the Goose Neck with a Shepherds Hook bend. The 2 are totally different bends. The last one is just an offset and 90 stub bent closely together. Now the Goose Neck is how you are suppose to get around the obstruction in play. Not to say that the shepherds hook is wrong or anything. I believe that through time the Goose neck was forgotten and the shepherds hook took it's place. Not too many people know how to properly bend the Goose Neck. Also want to mention that the Gooseneck is actually in the old books that were used in some NJATC training centers. 3 Point saddle push thru method I will be guiding you step by step on how to bend conduit, specifically the 3 point saddle push thru method. To do this bend properly you will need to use a multiplier of 3 and use the notch or tear drop on your bender for all three bends in a push thru method. From the first mark towards the end of your conduit and progress to the last mark as you push your conduit thru the bender and continue to stop at each mark and bend not forgetting to rotate the conduit and making sure you don't dog the conduit as well.
