At the Kenya Medical Research Institute, research is underway to create a mobile phone application that uses AI to diagnose tuberculosis and other respiratory diseases. In a specially contained quiet room, Dr. Videlis Nduba and his team record coughs from people with respiratory diseases like tuberculosis as well as people without disease. The aim is to create software that can differentiate between the two and make a mobile phone application that can accurately recognize a cough connected to TB and other serious diseases. Natural or forced coughs are collected using three microphones, including a cheap version, a high-definition one and a microphone on a smartphone. The results are sent to the University of Washington which puts them through an existing computer software system called ResNet 18. Nduba believes that if the software can be proven in trials to perform accurately, it can shorten the time before a patient can get a diagnosis and treatment, and that will help curb the spread of TB. "The biggest achievement is reduced time to diagnosis. So, from when someone develops TB symptoms, to when a doctor determines they have TB and they need treatment sometimes the average can run from 3 to 2 months to one year. And when they are in the community they are infectious and they are transmitting TB. The moment they get a cough, if you can just expose them to this software and determine this is TB would reduce TB transmission in the community and a lot of TB is due to transmission," he says. But the software is not yet accurate enough to meet the standard required by the World Health Organization. The WHO says the application must be at least 90% accurate in recognizing a TB infection and it must be at least 80% accurate at detecting if no infection exists. Nduba's trials so far have shown 80% accuracy at detecting TB and 70% accuracy for detecting there is no TB. This article was provided by The Associated Press.

(Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Pakistan released an imprisoned Christian man In a rare move, officials in Pakistan released a Christian man accused of desecrating the Quran. Such acts are punishable by death in the Muslim-majority nation. Police arrested 72-year-old Younis Bhatti earlier this month. The complainant in the case later admitted to falsely accusing him. However, just the announcement of the accusation led to 500 Muslims protesting. Many Christians in the area had to flee their homes. After being released, Bhatti said, “I can't thank God enough for rescuing me from this dangerous accusation. Those who sought to implicate me in the fake case were instead booked under the same charges. This is how God works when you put your faith in Him fully.” In Psalm 142:7, King David prayed, “Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise Your name; the righteous shall surround me, for You shall deal bountifully with me.” Greece legalized faux homosexual marriage Last Thursday, lawmakers in Greece voted to legalize faux homosexual marriage. The country had legalized civil unions for homosexual couples in 2015. The new legislation allows homosexual couples to both have legal guardianship over children.  The country is predominantly Greek Orthodox in terms of religion. As such, it is the first Orthodox-majority nation to legalize people living in vile passions with the same sex. Greece is now the 16th country in Europe and the 35th in the world to legalize such relationships.  The Greek Orthodox Church opposed the legislation. Archbishop Ieronymos II with the Orthodox Church said the measure would “corrupt the homeland's social cohesion.” U.S. churches faced 915 acts of hostility since 2018 The Family Research Council released a report on hostility against churches in the U.S. this month. Between 2018 and 2023, American churches faced at least 915 acts of hostility. Attacks include vandalism, arson, gun-related incidents, and bomb threats. Churches faced 436 incidents last year. That's more than double the number in 2022 and more than eight times the number in 2018.  Tony Perkins, the President of the Family Research Council, said, “There is a common connection between the growing religious persecution abroad and the rapidly increasing hostility toward churches here at home: our government's policies. The indifference abroad to the fundamental freedom of religion is rivaled only by the increasing antagonism toward the moral absolutes taught by Bible-believing churches here in the U.S., which is fomenting this environment of hostility toward churches.” 1 Peter 4:12 says, “Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ's sufferings.” Alabama Supreme Court: Frozen human embryos are children Last Friday, the Supreme Court of Alabama ruled that frozen human embryos are children and worthy of protection.  The case began as a wrongful death lawsuit brought by three couples involving in-vitro fertilization. The IVF clinic had destroyed the couples' embryos in 2020. The case argued that the act violated Alabama's Wrongful Death of a Minor Act. The measure applies to unborn children. The ruling noted, “Here, the text of the Wrongful Death of a Minor Act is sweeping and unqualified. It applies to all children, born and unborn, without limitation. It is not the role of this Court to craft a new limitation based on our own view of what is or is not wise public policy.” Women most likely to identify as liberal Gallup reports that Americans' political identification has drifted toward the Left over the long term. Still, most identify as conservative (36%) or moderate (36%), and 25% identify as liberal.  However, women in particular have grown more liberal, while men have remained more steady. Young women aged 18-29 are the most likely to identify as liberal at 40%, up from 30% in 1999. Meanwhile, only 25% of young men in the same age group identify as liberal. That's up just one percentage point over the same time period.  Moviegoers want faith accurately portrayed And finally, a new study found people around the world want movies to portray faith more accurately.  The HarrisX poll surveyed 10,000 entertainment viewers across 11 countries.  The survey found that 69% of Americans and 63% of people worldwide believe that entertainment perpetuates religious stereotypes. In this episode, Dr. Robert Jacobs and I discuss the concept of thresholds in exercise physiology and the ongoing debate surrounding their existence. We explore the importance of understanding and measuring first threshold, which marks the shift from maximal fat oxidation towards carbohydrate oxidation during exercise. We discuss the challenges of accurately measuring thresholds and the need for trend analysis over time. We also highlight the significance of Fatmax, the point at which the body maximizes fat oxidation, and its potential applications in performance and health. This conversation explores the concept of Fatmax and its relationship to performance and fitness. We discuss the differences between Fatmax and other thresholds, such as ventilatory/gas exchange and lactate threshold. We also examine the impact of nutrition and training interventions on Fatmax. The conversation highlights the importance of low-intensity exercise and the confusion surrounding training zones. Various methods to measure lactate threshold and estimate the first threshold are discussed. As always we emphasize the principles of consistency, specificity, and progression in training. The benefits of Zone 2 training and the influence of exercise modality on intensity are also explored. He explains that the revenue cycle, which involves generating accurate receipts for patient care, is a complex process that requires manual work from healthcare professionals. SmarterDx is streamlining the process by using AI to scan and analyze medical data, allowing professionals to focus on making judgments based on clinically validated data to report and bill more accurately for actions taken.   Michael explains, "One of the biggest challenges in the healthcare environment today is that hospitals have a hard time getting paid to provide the services they do for sick patients. And we've all seen through COVID, and certainly, in modern-day, these organizations are operating off of 1% operating margins or even losing money year over year. I think, very fundamentally, the problem that we're trying to solve is how do we make sure that the hospital can tell a complete patient story and represent all the care they provided so that they can be paid fairly for the care they provided." "Revenue cycle is very complicated, but at the end of the day, it's just about generating a receipt for what happened during that patient's visit to the hospital. And that receipt, we think of it as a bill, is used by insurance companies to sort of size the payment. It's also used by CMS, US News and World Report, and other organizations to figure out what happens so they can grade the quality of the care provided. From our vantage point of the revenue cycle, there are a lot of different names for different steps of the revenue cycle, but at the end of the day, it's just about generating an accurate receipt. Our company's North Star is to help revenue cycle leaders ensure that the items on that receipt are as accurate and complete as possible." "If I were to outline a bunch of steps within the revenue cycle, there are two steps today that people do in the middle. One is clinical documentation improvement, and the other is medical coding.
