The literal sense of Scripture gives way to no other sense of Scripture because there is no other sense than the literal sense of Scripture. Sorry, not sorry, Quadrigans! It's time for Evangelicals and Confessional Protestants to retrieve its rejection! Some things are so fundamentally flawed, coming up with alternatives should be easy. Some things are so fundamentally flawless, coming up with refutations should be impossible. The Quadriga is not hermeneutically viable. Never was. Never shall be. That's what makes its treatment with kid gloves by some academics, pastors, and their young seminarian acolytes a contra-confessional anomaly. Soon, there will be a full court press hailing its hermeneutical virtues as simply expressions of Biblical assumptions and sensibilities. Litera gesta docet, quid credas allegoria;moralis quid agas;quo tenda anagogiaBut the question is simple: is the pre-critical quadriga drawn from or imposed on the Scriptures? If the former, it is legitimate. If the latter, it is eisegesis. These two are not the same. These two possibilities are not compatible. Neither is confessing Scripture's single sense and its manifold sense. Our Lord Himself states that His words are spirit and life, thus refuting the dualistic bifurcation between the literal and spiritual senses. The Quadriga must be terminated with extreme prejudice by all true believers for Biblical, rational, and confessional reasons.  Take up and read:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DL8HGMGQ?ref_=cm_sw_r_ffobk_cp_ud_dp_WTW2FHAQBB25JAGGZ304_3&bestFormat=true

We have a lot of questions about AI. Maybe you do too. If you follow our work you'll note that we've done several presentations on AI (Reimaging the Academy Panel Discussion, and This is Your Brain on AI Dissidents Podcast). To get a better grasp on both the problems and opportunities, we invited Robert “RSnake” Hansen, a tech security guru and author of the book, AI's Best Friend, to our podcast. Our conversation centers on the moral alignment of AI. The divergence between censorship and alignment is discussed, which touches on the issue of bad actors in the design on AI. While we work to “raise” AI from infancy into what we hope can model a “best friend”, one of the tools we have to monitor the progression is transparency. We know that China's DeepSeek leans heavily on censorship; Gemini leans politically left; Grok leans right. These evaluations and critiques are important as we find the best way forward in this new landscape. But will it be enough? If AI can do wonderful things beyond human capacity, like cure cancer, are we ok losing some of our autonomy “to the machine”? Let us know in the comments what you think.Podcast Resources:AI's Best Friend: https://www.amazon.com/AIs-Best-Friend-Robert-Hansen-ebook/dp/B0CWDJCVHT

In three of the four nations of the UK, abortion remains a crime under legislation passed in 1861, subject to the exemptions from criminal liability in the Abortion Act 1967.  Paradoxically, abortion was decriminalised in Northern Ireland in 2019, so that it is now seen as a matter of healthcare rather than the criminal law. Recent prosecutions in England under section 58 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861 have reignited debate over whether abortion belongs in the criminal courts at all – https://www.theguardian.com/society/2025/may/13/i-hate-sitting-in-silence-now-nicola-packer-on-clearing-her-name-after-the-trauma-of-her-abortion-trial   https://doctorsforchoiceuk.com/abortionlaw#:~:text=UK%20abortion%20law%3A%20Overview&text=In%201967%2C%20Parliament%20passed%20the,if%20authorised%20by%20two%20doctors.   In this special 100th episode of Double Jeopardy, Ken Macdonald KC and Tim Owen KC are joined by two leading voices in the campaign for reform: Rachael Clarke, Head of Advocacy at BPAS (the British Pregnancy Advisory Service) and Trustee of Compassion in Dying; and Jonathan Lord, NHS Consultant Gynaecologist and Co-Chair of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists' Abortion Taskforce. Together, they explore the rise in criminal investigations into pregnancy loss and self-managed abortion, the implications of recent cases like Carla Foster (https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/20231018-R-v-FOSTER-final-approved-1.pdfand) and Sarah Catt, and the human cost of criminalising desperate women. They unpack new national policy guidance issued by the National Police Chiefs' Council on investigating stillbirths and miscarriages; the troubling use of digital surveillance in reproductive cases, and the proposed cross-party amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill that would finally remove women from the scope of the criminal law, thereby eliminating the bizarre distinction between the law of Northern Ireland and the other nations of the UK. What is the justification for threatening a woman with life imprisonment for ending a pregnancy? And why has Parliament decriminalised abortion in Northern Ireland, but not in the rest of the UK? This episode offers insider legal and medical perspectives on one of the most polarising and poorly understood areas of UK law—at a moment when calls for reform are louder than ever. ------ Double Jeopardy is presented by Ken Macdonald KC, former Director of Public Prosecutions, and Tim Owen KC, as they break down the legal and political issues in Britain. From high-profile legal cases to the evolving state of British democracy, Double Jeopardy offers expert legal commentary on the most pressing topics in UK law, politics, and human rights. Ken Macdonald KC served as Director of Public Prosecutions from 2003-2008, shaping modern prosecutorial policy and advocating for the rule of law. He is a former Warden of Wadham College, Oxford, a crossbench member of the House of Lords, and a leading writer, commentator and broadcaster on politics and the rule of law.  Tim Owen KC has been involved in many of the most significant public, criminal and human rights law cases over the past four decades. Both bring unparalleled experience from the frontline of Britain's legal and political landscape. "American Extremists Aiding Radicals Across Border," trumpeted the Detroit Free Press in 1919. "707 Illegal Aliens Arrested in Checkpoint Crackdown," reported the Los Angeles Times in 1987. "87 Bronx gang members responsible for nine years of murders and drug-dealing charged in largest takedown in NYC history," announced the New York Daily News in 2016. "'Top secret' Hamas documents show that terrorists intentionally targeted elementary schools and a youth center," claimed NBC News in 2023. Each of these headlines includes a label for a certain type of Bad Guy. Whether it's the "Extremist," the "Illegal Alien," the "Gang Member," or the "Terrorist," these terms—and their cousins—seek to exceptionalize the alleged transgressions of their targets, separate them from both the law and history and dehumanize them, all while priming media audiences for crueler laws, harsher policing, longer incarceration and sometimes even extrajudicial punishment. The terms, of course, don't have clear, universally accepted definitions—nor are they supposed to—their use is often heavily racialized and, by their very nature, subject to the whims and ideologies of the Security State and the media doing its bidding. What effects, then, do these Bad Guy Labels have on public perceptions? How do they serve to foreclose critical thinking about who is deemed inside the bounds of due process and humanization and who is categorically an other in urgent need of disappearing and punishment? On this episode, we examine four thought-terminating Bad Guy labels, analyze their origins, why they rose to prominence and explain how they are selectively evoked in order to turn off people's brains and open up space for quick and cruel state violence. Our guest is attorney and author Alec Karakatsanis.

Our guest is Anna Barr, a patient safety and risk manager with Copic, who joins us to talk about terminating the provider-patient relationship. The discussion starts by looking at the main considerations before terminating a patient: trying to mend the relationship by using effective communication and conflict resolution skills, assessing the clinical situation, the risk of abandonment, the possibility of discrimination, and the contractual obligations that may apply. Anna then highlights key termination steps such as notifying and assisting the patient, and documentation. She also talks about the benefits of having a practice-wide policy for non-compliance or disruptive behavior that can help prevent situations that may lead to termination. The Case for Terminating ICMA CEO Marc Ott | Ep. 58

City Manager Unfiltered

ICMA CEO Marc Ott has presided over an organization that is dysfunctional, lacks accountability, and produces mediocre work product.  His permissive and absentee approach to managing employees allowed ethics staffers to prosecute a personal and political vendetta against Port Huron City Manager James Freed -- a stain that will be forever left upon his legacy. Combined with an international development emphasis that has lacked focus and failed to deliver results, it has been Ott's shepherding of the organization towards the promotion of a leftist political ideology that has alienated many members who simply desire to be in a non-partisan, apolitical organization that will help them become better public sector executives. For these reasons and more, it is time for the ICMA executive board to terminate Ott and begin the process of repairing the damage done during his tenure. SHOW NOTES: Here is the court ordered motion to compel issued against members of the ICMA executive board. Here is the most recent ruling by the judge highlighting the stall tactics used by the ICMA in its case against Freed. TRUMP'S SHOCKING MISTAKE: REVIVES ATTACK ON OBAMACARE - 11.28.23

Countdown with Keith Olbermann

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 28, 2023 53:31 Transcription Available

SEASON 2 EPISODE 80: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Somebody finally told Dementia J. Trump that he's been calling Biden “Obama” for the last few months. So he has fabricated a backstory that whenever he has MADE this cognitive gaffe, it has been “sarcastic," so he could “indicate” that “others” may actually be running things. And just to sell this excuse even harder, Trump has now begun to do the one thing that could most easily give back his poll numbers, particularly his improving numbers with minorities; the one thing that could most easily destroy Trump's arguments about inflation under Biden; the one thing that would be the answer to the Biden Campaign Team's Prayers. He has attacked ObamaCare. He has insisted he and the Republicans should never give up on TERMINATING it - just when almost everybody had forgotten he failed to do it despite 29 promises that he would, and that he lost at least two elections on it. It's not just a political millstone he's put around his own neck and the neck of every other Republican. It could also cost Trump his recent gains among minority voters. 80% of blacks and nearly 70% of Hispanics support ObamaCare and because of ObamaCare the rate of the uninsured among blacks and Hispanics has dropped roughly in HALF since 2010; just when Trump and Biden and events had tilted the entire profile of the election into things that favored Trump, Trump just brought back from the dead, what might be the LAST issue in which Democrats completely kick Republican ass. An NBC poll two months ago said Democrats are trusted by 2 to 1 over Republicans on Health Care. To sum it up, as an unnamed Biden adviser said: “It's almost perfect that Trump would pick the ONE thing they haven't really put front and center, which we know is incredibly unpopular, and say ‘Yeah, I'm gonna do this too!'" Thanks, Obama! Meanwhile, it is time for us to destroy Fox News. Twice in the last week its little oasis of presumed authenticity has proved to be just another venue for lying, journalistic terrorism, fraud, and partisanship that would embarrass Kimberly Guilfoyle. As late as Sunday, Fox was still intimidating that the horrible accident (never buy a car called a "Bentley Flying Spur") on the Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls was some form of terrorism, and as late as last night it was still insisting Biden "couldn't even avoid age questions while on vacation" then playing a tape of its own reporter shouting the only age question. It's beyond dishonesty, it's desperation and it needs to come crashing down. And there are ways we can make it happen. B-Block (33:20) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Judge Chutkan rejects a Trump claim about imaginary January 6 evidence; Elise Stefanik somehow thinks she - a congresswoman - got the Trump Gag Order stayed; and now whenever you read Maggie Haberman or Jonathan Swan you'll remember they're holding back Trump news for their 2025 Trump book. (36:10) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Fox's Charlie "Butt" Hurt; Kevin McCarthy is dumber than we thought; and the Oxford Union chose HIM for their debate, instead of me. C-Block (42:30) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Like everybody else, I was once a Sports Illustrated writer. Hell, I was once in a sports media industry without AI-generated content (and as we just found out at SI: AI-generated writers!) and so competitive that when I was with UPI, my AP rival would not loan me a $1.50 piece of equipment to save my career at the Olympics when my own bosses had gotten me drunk!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
