Topics:- As I reflected on my Tio Nick's passing, Ant and I talked about death and dying as a sociological journey-The resignation of Nori Martinez and its effect on the BIPOC community-Yezzy (Kanye West) and his White Lives Matter fashion statement- We ended with my announcement that I am officially the El Camino High School Girls' Varsity Head Basketball coach and the interesting journey that I took to get there.

Topics covered:1) We started talking about the passing of Coolio and the importance of Gangster's Paradise. However, we then took a side trek and talked about the movies Dangerous Minds and Freedom Writers and what they could have done better to connect the content they taught to the lived lives of the students they were teaching.2) We talked about Woman King and pondered the message that was sent by focusing on a nation of badass Black woman warriors who also enslaved neighboring groups of Africans.3) A prestigious university in New York fired a tenured faculty member when 82 of the 350 students in the class signed a petition that stated that the class was unnecessarily hard and that the professor did not care about the lives of students outside of the classroom. This led to a conversation about the commodification of education and how teachers can become better teachers.

The topics:- Are we allowed to critique other cultures? If so, what are the rules?- The difference between critiquing and judging a culture- What is the difference between being Mexican versus begin Mexican America?- Why are we not talking about Brett Farve's role in stealing money from the Mississippi welfare system?

What we talked about:- Our reactions to Halle Bailey, a Black girl, as the Little Mermaid- White replacement theory - How Black people can add value to stories that have been previously filled by White actors IF the writers do a good job- How one of the main enemies of Black superheroes is white supremacy

It is good to be back! Ant and I are back at it after I took a year-long sabbatical. Topics discussed:1) What is a sabbatical?2) Our takes on the death of Queen Elizabeth3) Football as a modified form of slavery

Topics we covered:1) Is the police department redeemable?  A heartfelt discussion following all the violence against Black men recently2) Coming 2 America - Dr. Blacksher gave it a B+ because it was a COVID movie.  Dr. Hoskins was much harsher stating that the movie tried to have a "girl power" theme but did not even focus on the women.

Although we start off talking about Ant getting his second vaccination, we spend the rest of the time talking about how both Ant and I have strong Black racial identities and racialized experiences, while being multiracial. Ant's mother is Black while his father is Mexican but was adopted by a Black family. Bruce's father is Black but was raised almost solely by his Japanese mother.

A student asked how have I been able to stay married for so long (24+ years) and the show took off from there! Ant, Denise and I gave advice for the first 30 minutes ranging from keep you ring on to the 5 love languages. We then dove deep into the current upsurge in Anti-Asian violence and why we should all be concerned.

Professor Edwina Williams and (soon to be) Dr. Lisa Covington blessed the spot as we talked about the following:1) The winter storm in Texas and the politics of blame2) The next Batman is Black: The difference between inclusion/integration/assimilation and revolutionary work.3) The Miles Morales Spiderman reinforced white supremacy, but Dr. Hoskins still iked it4) Dating advice for Dr. Hoskins 18-year-old son

We were blessed to have, soon to be doctor, Lisa Covington in the house! Dr. Blacksher and I, start with a news story about an older White woman who told a Black family in Discovery Bay to act White since they live in a White neighborhood. We ended by definitively stating that running a Boston is the best flex EVER in the Black community. If you need any more explanation than this, then you need to listen to the podcast :)

A conversation about "election deniers" morphs into talking about what it would take to actually beat white supremacy, but is what would replace it any better? We then shift to talking about how San Diego School District is trying to combat racism in grading. Dr. Hoskins says this is a step in the right direction, but that it is more important to focus on the racism in how schools are funded.

We record on Thursday night, so we did all of this talking without knowing what I know now and that is that Biden/Harris won the 2020 election. I, Dr. Bruce Hoskins, am not "happy", but I am relieved that the war against White Supremacy no longer has the full backing of the White House. This nation still has a LOT of work to do. Now, we need to hold the elected administration accountable for their promises. This work starts today...

Ant and I start off with an unexpected discussion about how we use our titles of "Doctor" at strategic moments. We then spin off into a conversation about the fly that landed on the VP Pence's head during the debate (which I still didn't watch) and how Sen. Kamala Harris is an AKA. Lastly, we talk about how JP Morgan is giving $30 billion to help close the racial wealth gap but speak in-depth about why I am still not happy about it.We record the live show on Thursdays at 10pm on Zoom. We talked about the debate even though I (Dr. Bruce Hoskins) did not watch it because I knew it was going to be bad. I told Dr. Anthony Blacksher that I would rather watch the 0-3 Denver Broncos play the 0-3 New York Jets. Ant assured me that it was the sh!t show that I thought it would be but in a WWE sort of way. Intriguing :)At 19:45, Ant and I talked about the executive order that effectively banned diversity and equity training in federally funded organizations.At 35:14 We talk about how we address microaggressions with our colleagues on our campuses.

This session Ant and I check-in with fellow community college educators Joe Limer, Ernest Guillen, and Denise Nealon and how we have transitioned to teaching online. Sociologically, we talked about functionalist theory and how the novel coronavirus has upset our social equilibrium and introduced anomic conditions to the entire education system. Also, as most colleges head into the spring semester online, we struggle with the idea that education can never go back to "normal".

Dr. Hoskins goes off on a math professor that states that Princeton was not built on institutional racism. Dr. Blacksher wonders why conservatives are tripping about critical race theory. Dr. Hoskins talks about how a police chief not rehiring a racist officer is a perfect example of praxis.
