Our education is in decline. Lawmakers and other education leaders are lying about the use of Common Core curriculae. In fact, some of them intentionally want our schools and students to fail. That's what Charles Tuttle, a candidate for Superintendent of Public Schools, had to say on this episode of Plain Talk. "We've got a a major decline in our educational system. The direction hasn't changed," he claimed. "I think it's intentional," he continued, going on to say that he thinks "we've got a some that said when common core came in that they were going to dumb our kids down." Somewhat paradoxically, Tuttle said that school districts are spending too much money, but also that the state isn't investing enough. "We have the money. The state is not poor when it comes to money," he said. "So there should be no reason why we cannot fund every school in North Dakota. It says right in the constitution, the legislative assembly shall provide for a uniform system of free public schools throughout the state." He pointed to the school lunch debt that some schools carry as an example of something that should be the state's responsibility. So does that mean he supports a ballot measure that will likely appear on the November ballot to have the state cover the costs of school meals? Not necessarily. "The problem I have with that...is it goes in the constitution," he said, noting that the measure would be an amendment to the state constituiton and not statute. Also on this episode, me and guest co-host Erin Oban talk about Measure 1 on the June ballot, which would implement a single-subject requirement for constituitonal amendments proposed by ballot measure or the Legislature, and the controversy around the arrest of polarizing political organizer Jerol Gohrick, who is facing two felony counts of terrorizing after an altercation with a work crew operating on his land. If you want to participate in Plain Talk, just give us a call or text at 701-587-3141. He was one of the top prep basketball players in the state of Missouri in his junior and senior years at Central High School in Kansas City. So, when the colleges came running, he accepted a full ride to the University of Arkansas. Despite being unable to read or write, he went on to be one of the most prolific players to grace the Razorbacks' campus. In 1974, Tolson was the first basketball player to be drafted by both the NBA and the ABA, having been selected by the Seattle Supersonics and the New York Nets, respectively, playing for the legendary Bill Russell in Seattle. Following his basketball career, Tolson made the courageous decision to re-enroll at the University of Arkansas, and repeated all four years, this time legitimately. At the age of fifty-two, he returned to the university for three more years, earning a master's degree and graduated magna cum laude. Tolson's gripping story from his childhood in an orphanage to his academic achievements is not only an indictment of a system that would just “pass you along” from grade to grade as a hot basketball prospect without any educational accountability, but also an inspiring story of overcoming great odds to find success. He is the author of Power Forward: My Journey from Illiterate NBA Player to a Magna Cum Laude master's degree. https://www.deantolson.com/http://www.yourlotandparcel.org

Send us a textHow are you this week? Have you been seeing more places, spaces, where two opposing forces or states of being intersect? Have you witnessed the magic in those juicy spaces? If you're nodding yes, has the supernatural winked at you? Given you more overt breadcrumbs? This morning as I ran, I watched the clouds move across the sky, one in particular was shaped like a pyramid. It then morphed into a shark. Is cloud scrying a thing? Certain shapes, designs, patterns, images evoke a deep knowing in me, remind me of my connection to everything else. A spiral, for example. It calls to mind a whirlpool, a vortex of energy, a portal. Art is a magical bridge, both from us to other civilizations, or cultures, or individuals. It's also an internal bridge between sides of our brain, logic and creativity, math and mental health. For members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, education is a religious responsibility; as such, the Church Educational System (CES) has been built to pursue that responsibility and develop disciples of Jesus Christ. CES accomplishes this at larger institutions like Brigham Young University, electronically accessible programs like BYU–Pathway Worldwide, and gospel-centered curriculum found at seminary and institute classes wherever the Church is established, allowing students to thrive in and through their educational pursuits. In this special episode of the Church News podcast, guest host Sheri Dew, executive vice president of Deseret Management Corp. and a former member of the Relief Society general presidency, sits down with Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and Elder Clark G. Gilbert, General Authority Seventy and Church commissioner of education. Together, they discuss the Church Educational System and the Church's ongoing commitment to both spiritual and educational growth among the rising generation. The Church News Podcast is a weekly podcast that invites listeners to make a journey of connection with members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints across the globe. Host Jon Ryan Jensen, editor of The Church News, shares a unique view of the stories, events, and people who form this international faith. With each episode, listeners are asked to embark on a journey to learn from one another and ponder, “What do I know now?” because of the experience. Produced by KellieAnn Halvorsen.

This episode rips the mask off America's educational farce, exposing a system designed not to enlighten, but to indoctrinate and pacify. We're churning out obedient drones, not free thinkers. From rote memorization to ideological brainwashing, our schools are assembly lines for mediocrity. Dr. Roger McFillin welcomes back award winning teacher and Radically Genuine OG Kelly Wetherhold with Daniel Herbruger, a Guatemalan-American who has founded “Critical Thinking Schooling”. He taught at Francisco Marroquin University in Guatemala which is known as The University of Free Marketeers and has been featured regularly on Telemunda. We dissect the Marxist rot infecting our classrooms, the identity politics dividing our youth, and the fear-based tactics crushing creativity. But it's not all doom and gloom – we offer a lifeline through critical thinking, a Socratic approach to shatter the chains of institutional groupthink.Chapters00:00 Introduction: Challenges in the Education System03:10 The Value of True Freedom and Critical Thinking04:34 Guest Introduction: Kel Weatherhold and Daniel Herberger06:15 Observations on the Public School System10:42 Daniel's Background and Critical Thinking Schooling14:19 The Illusion of Freedom and Outsider Perspectives19:51 The Impact of Socialized Education and American Exceptionalism23:10 Defining Socialist Education and its Implications28:19 Education Systems in Guatemala and Curriculum30:29 Late Stage Empire and Cultural Issues30:58 The Devolution of Societal Morals and the Impact of Excess Availability31:29 Division within Society: Identity Politics and Pitting Citizens Against Each Other32:26 Assimilation, Hard Work, and Individual Talent: Keys to Success and Upward Mobility34:20 The Limitations of Marxist and Socialist Ideas in Achieving Success35:17 The Role of the Educational System in Pushing Ideologies and Limiting Critical Thinking42:36 Fostering Independent Thinking and Autonomy: The Socratic Approach in Education44:32 The Fear-Based Approach to Classroom Management and its Impact on Student Autonomy47:21 Societal Conditioning and the Influence of the Ruling Class in Public Schools01:04:36 Confidence and Intentionality in Education01:08:07 Balancing Structure and Freedom in the Classroom01:14:36 The Impact of Cell Phone and Social Media Usage on Education01:18:01 The Decline in Civil Discourse and the State of Politics01:20:20 Finding Hope and Guidance in Spirituality01:31:27 Promoting Critical Thinking through EducationCritical Thinking Schooling RADICALLY GENUINE PODCASTDr. Roger McFillin / Radically Genuine WebsiteYouTube @RadicallyGenuineDr. Roger McFillin (@DrMcFillin) / XSubstack | Radically Genuine | Dr. Roger McFillinInstagram @radicallygenuineContact Radically GenuineConscious Clinician CollectivePLEASE SUPPORT OUR PARTNERS15% Off Pure Spectrum CBD (Code: RadicallyGenuine)—-----------FREE DOWNLOAD! For this month's special feature, Dale and Brian are sharing another segment from Moments with Fred. In this segment, Fred Karmie shares his thoughts on the educational system as it stood back in the 80s. Fred sought higher education and the American dream when he came to America. After graduating college, he began to teach. But the educational system he found was different from what he was expecting. While he loved the students entrusted to him, he was frustrated with the system and found that many students didn't care. This troubled Fred, who fought against all odds to obtain an education. While this segment was recorded 40 years ago, it is just as timely today as it was back then. We face many of the same educational challenges, some arguably worse than when Fred recorded his thoughts.Listen along with the brothers as they glean insight and reflect on the words their father shared decades ago.Episode Highlights: Fred Karmie's childhood & journey to America.Pursuing education in America.Becoming a teacher. The education system wasn't what he expected it to be.Fred shares his thoughts on education.Dale & Brian reflect on Fred's thoughts.Links Mentioned in Episode/Find More on ForeverLawn:www.foreverlawn.comImpact Without Limits Instagram: @impact_withoutlimitsForeverLawn's Instagram: @foreverlawnincDale's Instagram: @dalekarmieBrian's Instagram: @bkarmieGet Grass Without Limits HereVisit our show notes page HERESubscribe to Our Newsletter HEREThis show has been produced by Adkins Media Co.
