She's back, y'all! Coming out of an impromptu end-of-summer break, your fave adult has returned — and not only is she spilling tea, but she's giving hot takes, too. In this new 'Fifi After Dark,' our slightly-sauced-up host Afiya talks about the recent drama hitting the Adult-ish squad (because she's going to keep it as 100 with you as possible), that's been keeping production held up. Then, she quickly channels all that pent-up energy into her latest hot take, which focuses on the long-awaited tease of a big Disney upset: "The Little Mermaid" starting Halle Bailey. You already know how she feels about remakes, but her thoughts on this one might surprise you — or not...So get ready to hear our girl go through out and get in her feels, 'cause she's back! In this episode we briefly talked about 600 Breezy and the suicide of his girlfriend Raven and how every time someone takes their life, social media always talks about "checking on your strong friends" which we have an issue with this statement. We then talked about the outrage after the release of the official Little Mermaid live action trailer starring Halle Bailey, a black woman, as Ariel. We question if the outrage is due to racism or simply just wanting the live action character to reflect how the cartoon looks. We then talked about Balenciaga's new Summer '23 show at Paris Fashion Week where Kanye opened the show and walked the runway. We discussed how people believe Balenciaga is doing a social experiment with the type of things they are selling, and why we disagree with this notion.Next we asked and answered the question "are weddings a waste of money?" We discussed how you shouldn't take out loans for a wedding. The next topic we discussed was the STD epidemic going around and trying to get to the root of the lack of check ups and STD testing. Our last major topic was about the cheating scandals of Nia Long and Adam Levine. We talked about the harmful statements of "how could you cheat on Nia Long?!" and "how can you cheat on a Victoria Secret model?!" because cheating has nothing to do with looks, yet it's a common theme for people to bring up looks when questioning why someone cheats. We then discussed the recent HBCU vs PWI debate on the internet surrounding young black women creating a majorette team at USC. We talked about the outrage and why we don't have an issue with Black Americans representing our culture outside of black spaces. To wrap up the pod, we briefly discussed popular TikToker Deandre Brown and all the hate he has been receiving lately and accusations of being "elitist". We talk about how people always switch up when they no longer find you relatable and are quick to tear you down after showing love and building you up.
Johnny Depp as Tonto (Indian). Katherine Hepburn as Jade (Japanese).Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra (African/Egyptian)Jake Gyllenhaal as the Prince of Persia (well, Persian)Ben Affleck as Antonio J. Mendez (Mexican-American)Do you remember when society was in an uproar at these role castings? Yeah, neither do we. So why all the hubbub about Halle Bailey playing the Little Mermaid (especially since the mythical creature has no one single ethnicity!)
