It's where the Madden-Derrick League gets together, and sometimes it's just fun conversations
The season is a day away, and I booked my wife Julie for a 5-minute intro that turned into 43 minutes of fantasy punishments, biscuit recipes, and Pechanga resort and casino. Shoutout year 18!!
Madden-Derrick League XVII finishes with Jeff Ventura the rightful champion, his second title and first since 2012! He takes home the prize money and the trophy, no thanks to Jason Sanders. Eyes ahead to the offseason and some spring and summer pods and events let's make happen. And Cisco and Jacob pay up
This is is - Madden-Derrick Bowl XVII has come down to Jeff Ventura and Tristen: OG vs. the guy he invited, Fantasy Analyst guru vs. the team he helped pick because Jeff wasn't there. Will Jeff take his second title? Will Tristen with his 1st in year 2? And don't forget the Bill vs. Tim rivalry for 3rd!
First pod of the season is just in time! Sorry I neglected all of you and the league, but now's the fun part so I'm here to talk about everything that's happened, what's coming up, and even into the future! Yay!!
I'm a little sick and this episode sounds like a jazzy college radio hour. Draft grades are wack, I made my own grades and Oggi's-fied it. We also go through the money, the next drafts, and the infamous trade. And the fly on the plant is still there. And no there was no earthquake.
It's been a season. My apologies for not pumping out podcasts all year, but Commish is here to recap the Madden-Derrick League XVI regular season and preview the playoffs while also dishing out bonus winnings and breaking down the draft order for upcoming seasons! Also a big reveal late in the episode if hopefully it recorded because the second half of this episode is acting weird
Recap of our third? (fourth?) draft at Sean's house. Lots of Troy content, Tai was a mess, and I break down every week of the season and somehow am going to get the last place punishment again.
It's been a while. We've all been busy with adult things and parenting. The season is coming, so let's reset and get ready to draft.
Marty is the champ! Congrats. Time to recruit for next season like Saban and Belichick. Cheers again everyone, looking forward to Vegas August 19-21, bring your A game and ideas and hotel and suite suggestions. Hit me up if I owe you winnings. Also, free to watch the playoffs on the Yahoo Sports app if anyone needs it like me. Good luck Carp and Jacquie. Go Ducks. Jags #1 pick. Schedule coming in April/May.
We get crazy with zoom and a press conference setup as Tim and Marty break down their matchup, talk a lot of NFL business, near-death experiences, Nashville living, waiver wire drama, and third-place competitor Tai chimes in kind of
Every other fantasy league has played their championship game, but not us, we play all 18, boys. Just like on the golf course. We're not even CLOSE to done, its semifinals week! Who's got a bet still alive? Will Tim have a chance to win his second after a decade? Will Tai, Marty, or Jacob get a chance for their first? All will be revealed, and no one's eardrums will be impacted.
It's Yoffs Time! 8 teams have survived, now let's see if COVID can let us finish this season. Julie talks about what my league punishment should be. Carp is on podcasting hurt and giving us odds for who will win so send @jaycarp89 your hard earned money
Guess how many times my dog interrupts this one? Anywho, down to one final week with a battle for first still, both conference titles up in the air, 3 spots for 7 teams, and a 3-team race for last as we break it all down
Big Daddy Mac Marty joins the pod as the new first place team in the league here to trash a whole group of people. We also talk museums, Lambeau Field, Pud & Vanderdouche, fatherhood, and how we're going to bring back league functions!!
Sprinting through the matchups from Week 12, looking ahead to Week 13, and new races for first and last start heating up
Our guest had other plans so listen to me give out awards, assign thanksgiving foods, and go through Week 11 results and upcoming Week 12 matchups
Just a couple of last-place dads choppin it up. Sean gets into his league strategy, last place punishments, and then name drops a bunch of his top landscape lighting clients.
Changing it up! New dad, new kid, and new format. We've got weekly awards being handed out every week, and after the bye and passing midseason, we're giving out midseason awards! Enjoy the sounds of award season.
Big week for the Croteau family, could be the last fatherless episode. Also Jacob is really good and going to win the whole thing
Fresh off their engagement, these OGs of the league touch on everything from lottery winnings to Chris Chan to WWE to Vegas to West Memphis, Arkansas! And we saved like 5 minutes to talk about the league
Not my best effort, but that's what you get with an idiot Commish. Short and sweet one 1/3 of the way through the season
This week we rank everyone's team with a local brewery, and also Julie joins for the first time in a while to talk about baseball, country music, pregnancy, and a very important AITA corner about handicap stalls
Went a little different with a live zoom viewing of the Thursday night Jaguars vs. Bengals game and recorded it as a podcast. Recapped the matches for a bit, had some Wi-Fi fails, but was joined by some league mates like Jeff, Tai, Tuck, and Jacob
Me and Jacob start things off covering the league, our fantasy baseball matchup, day trading, the awful Angels, the trading block, how to manage transactions in 2021, and what's going on in softball. We jump into the Week 2 recap after the break, looking toward Week 3, and blockbuster trades live on the podcast.
One game in the books. Recap of the whole first week, dive into the Wonderlic results, a fun new last place punishment discussion, and a look ahead to week 2
Me and Bill had a lot to talk about, almost two hours worth of Bill's origin story, breaking down who is going to win the league, and planning the 2022 Vegas draft. This is preceded by 25 minutes of Julie's thoughts on the draft and the newborn on the way
Almost 6 months since we last met, time to start thinking about the season - Year 15 of the Madden-Derrick League. Fun stuff to go over like new payouts and ways to earn some of the prize money, and a new schedule created by yours truly that we'll go through week-by-week and see how it aligns with matchups in the NFL, MLB, and college. Lots to discuss about the draft, Tim and Jen busting outta California, and are we getting all 16 managers back? The league and commish notes are back.
She did it, props to the champ, Jen Alliss. Her first, first woman champ, up from dead last 2 years ago. And props to myself, this league's version of the Buffalo Bills. Recap of the big day Sunday, shoutout to the zoom participants, we talk 3rd place, look back on preseason projections, go over payouts, look forward to next season, and I give my Super Bowl pick
This Commish Note went all over the map. A lengthy discussion with Julie about Law & Order, Festivus, cartoons, Thanksgiving foods, you name it. Then I go on an expedition to Target for one item and break down our new league leader, Sean breaking through, and the huge rivalry matchups this week. And we end by comparing every manager on their team to a Thanksgiving food
Your first contact with the league's newest member, Cisco. He and Jeff Ventura discuss wing challenge drama, Cisco's rise from the Mexican ghettos, and how everyone deep down is actually a Cowboys fan. Jacob was supposed to join, but he never made picked up so we theorize where he might have been, dive deeper into his front lawn true crime, and bash him and almost everyone else in the league.
9 weeks into the season, time for another Commish Note. A league manager in our midst is fighting a serious problem. It's time to sit down and seek help, Jacob. This is your transaction intervention. In lighter news, this pod also covers Sean's bad luck, the Alliss Bowl, and Julie's premier Super Bowl Halftime show
This week's Commish Note has some bombshells in it. Everyone's on the move including maybe the President?! We're all over the map. The league's current #1 Carp is on to talk through the league, betting the election, Dodgers fans, and futures bets for the playoffs.
Halfway through the season and we got records breaking, fires starting, championships happening, too many transactions, and Halloween busting. Lotta numbers and decimals and boring stuff in this one, plus a Frankenteam, and which 3 teams in the top 8 right now will not make the playoffs
I've just always liked that word. Week 6 in the books, ahead to week 7. We discuss the movement in the updated standings and a wild finish between our two ladies last week. We also dive into the UFC a little bit in this episode with a big fight coming up this weekend and imagine what would happen in an MMA Tournament between league members.
We made it through COVID crisis week #1 and I think we all deserve a drink. I know its difficult to maybe go to one, so we can look back on our favs from Orange and the surrounding areas. Yes everyone is getting rated as an Orange dive bar, plus so great reviews of each. Cheers!
Thank you to our listener(s) from Singapore! The league is gettin' wonky with COVID postponements. Hopefully it holds up for Week 5. Also, we lay to rest Oggi's Pizza and Brewing with a eulogy and remembrance of their finest foods. Plus, Tim vs. Carp fallout, Bill being dirty, and who will take the all-time win lead
The whole league is in the doghouse because nobody wanted to talk Jags during the Jags one televised game. But the Commish Notes live on, so let's talk about how the hell Tai is 3-0, would you choose IHOP or White Castle, and helping everyone jump on the soccer bandwagon while we prepare for Tim vs. Carp nuclear battle this week
One week in and everything is already changing. Trying a new format, and hopefully all the previous episodes can transition over. Kind of a rough episode, we go over the first week of the season and look toward next. Not the best performance, but hopefully you enjoy
The first commish note podcast breaking down the draft and I give my playoff teams and projected champion. I also get permission to record Tuck legally in California eventually and we go over wedding high fives, 15 counts of possession, and unicorns
Fellow fantasy league commish Tai Bui needed to breakdown the slow draft as it was happening, and ended up setting a new high for longest pod run time. We also get in to rec league golf, Spirit airlines, and commish life
Today is my first wedding (making it official) with the whole shebang coming sometime in the future. I discuss it with my single friend Gabi Cipolletti along with dessert, Derek Carr, and the legendary Jay's Place
The champion is here and he has spoken - the mighty Jeff Alliss talks Home Depot, his recent Alliss dominance, and the history of the Bengals. Also Joey Porter, tannerite, and the case for not playing golf
Our podcast goes international for the first time going north of the border to Canada to talk with my sister, Cami, on her birthday! Also rock climbing, Halloween meet-cute, and the philosophy of the history of sports
We took a wild ride with the Allisses thru their origin story, pet peeves, and Nostradamus. Also boner golf, Disneyland lines, and the new AL West.
The magical mind of Vincent Wing Kwan Chow is unleashed on the pod which quickly devolved into clown lore. Also MMA, anacondas, and Little Fires Everywhere
The real purpose for this pod, the Madden-Derrick League, is broken down with the lovely John Carpenter. Also futures bets, Hot Wheels, and the Surfin' Poos
It's the first pod. Dom is on and we talk about how to make a proper pod. Also marbles, quarantine, and the first annual spice draft
