It's hard to believe that 2025 marks several significant anniversaries. First off, it's the 200th anniversary of photography as a whole, CCR is celebrating 10 years on the air, and we've reached episode 200! So the gang digs into a few topics on this show! If you remember, back in Episode 100, we talked about the oldest cameras in our collections, so in this episode, we talk about the newest cameras in our toolkits. We will also talk about all the latest films that have emerged in the 21st century and the developers! CCR is ten years old this year, and to celebrate, we're hosting a Photowalk in Brewery Tour on 12 July starting at 11 am from the Great Lakes Brewpub at 11 Lower Jarvis in Toronto, Ontario. Various names, including Modern Grain, Delta Grain, or T-Grain, are known for these films. These are the newest style of black and white film emulsions that offer fine grain, added sharpness, and a distinctly different structure than traditional cubic-grained film. In this episode, the team sits down to discuss films from Ilford Delta, Kodak TMax, Fomapan 200, and the Fujifilm Neopan line, as well as the various and assorted developers designed to maximise the potential of these modern films. But we also dig into developers like Kodak TMax Developer, Ilford DD-X, and Crawley's FX-37! There is also a Canadian Federal Election taking place on April 28. We at CCR encourage all eligible Canadians to get out and vote! You can visit the Elections Canada website to find out if you're eligible, register to vote, and where to cast your ballot! And if you haven't already, make sure to cast your ballot on Election Day, April 28, 2025. Episode 186 Details Be Weather Aware: Understand Tornado Season Tornado season typically runs from spring to early summer in the United States, peaking in April, May, and June. During this time, atmospheric conditions are ripe for the formation of tornadoes, powerful rotating columns of air that can cause significant damage in their path. Identifying Tornado Risks at Home Create a Safety Plan: Designate a safe room in your home, preferably in a basement or an interior room on the lowest level without windows. Practice regular tornado drills with your family. Strengthen Your Home: Reinforce your home's structure by securing loose shingles, reinforcing windows, and installing storm shutters or impact-resistant glass. Stay Informed: Invest in a NOAA weather radio or download a reliable weather app to receive alerts and updates about tornado warnings in your area. Have a safe place by the door or common area, so that you always remember to grab your wallet, purse, etc. Incase of catastrophic damage, it is always important to have identification, a credit card, some cash and a list of phone numbers that are your primary emergency contacts in case your mobile phone is ruined. Tornado Safety Tips While Traveling or Camping Traveling or camping during tornado season requires extra vigilance to ensure your safety in case of severe weather. Camping Safety Tips Upon checking in, ask the camp host for the EMERGENCY weather storm shelter is located! Choose the Right Campsite: Select a campsite away from trees and other potential hazards that could become projectiles in high winds. Avoid setting up camp in low-lying areas prone to flooding. Monitor Weather Conditions: Stay informed about weather forecasts and be prepared to seek shelter in a sturdy building or designated storm shelter if severe weather threatens. Pack Emergency Supplies: Pack essential emergency supplies, including a first aid kit, non-perishable food, water, flashlights, and extra batteries. Consider bringing a portable weather radio or a fully charged smartphone with a weather app for updates. Safety Tips for Travelers Plan Ahead: Check weather forecasts for your travel route and destination before hitting the road. Be prepared to alter your plans if severe weather is expected. Stay Informed: Keep abreast of weather updates during your journey by tuning into local radio stations or using a weather app on your smartphone. Have a Shelter Plan: Identify shelters along your route or at your destination where you can seek refuge in case of a tornado warning. If you're staying in a hotel, familiarize yourself with the hotel's emergency procedures. Father's Day Gifts & Trips If your idea of a Father's Day weekend is cleaning up the yard, mowing and fixing the long overdue hole in the backyard fence. Then you are wrong. Why should the weekend not be celebrated like others such as Mother's Day? Father's Day Gifts & Trip Ideas To Plan Now Now there are lots of gifts out there from the Tees to the Coffee Cups that say “World's Greatest Dad”; but my suggestion is to stay away from the typical gifts and go for something more memorable. Take The Time, Make The Memories Plan A Weekend Fishing Trip. Early summer fishing is often the best! Purchase a Guided Fishing Trip as a Gift for a later date. Campout with the whole family! If your dad is a bit older, than book him in a cabin but be sure to bring along all who can make it. Golfing with the Guys or pitting family member teams against one another. Nothing wrong with some friendly family competition. Brewery Tour. Plan an afternoon of touring the local Breweries, Distilleries or Wineries in your area. Often there's live music outside, making for a fun day! Geocaching. If you've not tried, you need to! It's an adult version of a scavenger hunt. What kid or guy doesn't like to “hunt” for something!? Build a project together. Think about if there's something you've been wanting your dad's help with or he has been wanting yours. The time spent together focused on that task, creating something you'll be proud of for years to come is rewarding too. Father's Day or Guy Gifts To Buy 1. Hawaiian Shirts! Personalize or customize with family photos, favorite cows or pets. 2. Infused Wood Chips for BBQ Smoking. These are great for the BBQ cooks in the family! 3. Battery operated yard tools. Technology has come a long way with increasing power in the tools as well as the longevity in battery length. Today you can trim weeds, use power drills, hack saws and even chain saws all with the same battery. There are even battery operated power washers. Batteries alone are a great gift, just make sure you know the brand of tools the recipient is using so that they all match in chargers and batteries. Well it's official. We have hit the big time. The City of Flagstaff invited us along with prolific Nevada beer journalist and perennial Beer Freaks guest Bob Barnes out to their city to explore the magical world of Flagstaff brewing and space exploration. Yes, they do both. Our phenomenal tour guide, Meg, drove us to several tasty breweries, including Lumberyard, Beaver Street, Mother Road, Wanderlust, Grand Canyon Brewing, and Dark Sky, all within the city limits of the charming city of Flagstaff, most of which were walkable from our downtown accommodations, the very haunted Hotel Monte Vista. And yes, Derek got assigned to the most haunted room in the place. But wait, there's more! Not only did we get to experience the best brews Flagstaff had to offer (and there were too many to recount here), but we also got a VIP tour of Lowell Observatory with Dr. Danielle Adams, Chief Marketing and Revenue Officer of the observatory. Our hosts showed and told us all about how Pluto was discovered in Flagstaff, how the city still plays a major role in NASA (step aside, Houston), and how every single human that's ever stepped foot on the moon has spent time training in Flagstaff. This whirlwind trip was an incredible experience from start to finish (except for the unprecedented snowstorm that doubled our drive time) and we can't say enough great things about Flag and the wonderful beer culture, community, and craft they've cultivated in the charming mountain town. You better believe we'll be back soon. And we hope to see you there.Oh, there's one more thing. Because this was our first of hopefully many city tours in the future, we are working on a short film of the experience so that you can virtually come with us as we interview brewers, owners, general managers, and astronomers on this historic occasion. More details to come!Support the show

This episode has been on Cameron's guest bucket list since the beginning!Cameron has been tricking friends into shots of Malört for 10 years now. Jonathan has had his fair share of those Malört shots as well. For some reason, Cameron loves Malört and Jonathan is still friends with him. It all works out!CH Distillery, in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood, produces a unique hand-crafted vodka, along with a huge spirit lineup. They acquired Malört just a few years ago and brought it back to Chicago. This Chicago cult-following utilizes wormwood for its flavor like no other. It's been dubbed "The Champagne of Pain." There have also been taglines like "When you want to kick your mouth in the balls" or "When you want to unfriend someone in person." Rather than being offensive to the people of Malört, they lean into the quirkiness of it all.On average, the city of Chicago goes through 15,000 shots of Malört a night!

This week the guys chat with Chris Staudinger owner of Pretty Gritty Tours at Wizards Keep Games in Renton. Chris is an Adventurer, videographer, social media consultant that has travelled around the world writing articles for places like USA Today. Pretty Gritty Tours offers various tours around Tacoma, including a Brewery Tour, Historical Tours, and Antique Row. You can find out more about Chris and Pretty Gritty Tours at: prettygrittytours.com. This episode kicks off with Chris telling the guys about growing up in around eastern Washington, including Leavenworth. He tells them what brought him over to this side of the state, explains what Pretty Gritty Tours is and what made him decide to start doing the tours. They talk about Tacoma being ‘The Boston of the Westcoast', Yakima being the ‘Palm Springs' of the west, and the Miners Burger in Yakima that gives free burgers to people that can do a free standing split in their door frame. 14:40 – Chris talks about his reasoning for avoiding the majority of Patrick Swayze films, they discuss the movie ‘Next of Kin', and Wesley Snipes movies back in the 80's and 90's. Conversation then goes back to Chris telling the guys about his travels around the world and what sparked him to create the business in Tacoma. He talks about deciding to move to Pohang, South Korea and what made him decide to live there for 2 years instead of his initial plan of staying for 6 months. 29:38 – Chris talks about how he and his wife became travel bloggers, them being on TLS, his wife writing for National Geographic, and how they met while traveling abroad in college. They talk about John Lithgow's understated acting career, the sale of Top of Tacoma, and the history around East Tacoma. He then tells the guys of one of his favorite stories of Tacoma. 45:41 – Talk goes to how the building Golden Dragon is in was originally where The Real Art Theater was, built by Radnor Pratsch who built three theaters on South Tacoma Way in the early 1900's, and the classic dive bars in the South Tacoma area. They talk about Tacoma's changes over the years since the 1870's, how Seattle jumped ahead of Tacoma early on, and Pretty Gritty Tours being involved in the Link and Drink. As this great episode comes to an end, the guys talk about their favorite parts of Tacoma, including Wapato Park, the Tacoma waterfront, Rustin Way, Hilltop, and the old City Hall building. Chris tells about working with the historic preservation office and where people can find him online. Thanks Chris for a great conversation and information about Pretty Gritty Tours. Special Guest: Chris Staudinger.
SCIENCE TIME! Sit back and relax, it's getting frosty in here! On this episode of the podcast, we breakdown the results of our Cryo/T-90 experiment. And since the results were so "weird" - we brought in some extra help in the form of some of the IGORs who helped with the podcast including Brad Macleod, Eric Pierce and Miguel Loza Brown. Together we talk what went right (and sometimes what went wrong with the brew days) and what we all thought of the Cryo beers (including some numbers courtesy of White Labs). And then in the lounge, Drew sits down with Joshua M. Bernstein, author of the newly released Homebrew World about the stories you find when you talk to homebrewers around the world. And of course we also cover the whole wide world of beer news, talk about some brewing adventures, answer some questions, drop a little British Museum on you before we get you back to the world. We're still in New Zealand, but this time we're joined by Denny's better half as she walks us through her experience exploring the beers of New Zealand. What stories did she discover about the breweries (and her thought about their IPAs)? And then Denny hits the fields to discover how hop research is carried out in New Zealand! IN the pub, it's all the news fit to drink to, including Denny's anniversary and ABI's impact on homebrewing. In the library we cover some great recipes from Jester King before talking about a new IPA style and why people are confusing it for something Belgian, a little science tease and of course a quick tip and Denny's new cooking obsession. Join us with Murray Roberson and take a tour of the 3 ravens brewery then Ben Patterson shares some of his founding original vision for 3 ravens and Dee Wild takes us on a tour of the coworking space in this unique and ever intriguing tour. Engineered by hand, 3 Ravens beers are the product of a craft brewing process in which traditional methods meet exacting standards. We take care to emphasise quality over quantity and use only the finest natural ingredients. Our Beer now undergoes a gentle filtration to remove fermenter yeast. The age old process of bottle conditioning is then started with a small amount of fresh live brewers yeast. This creates a clearer, brighter beer unmasking and enhancing the flavour, aroma and body of our premium natural ingredients. Cheers!
