Das Führungspersonal der politischen Parteien hatte es sich bereits gemütlich in den Schützengräben eingerichtet. Bis kürzlich blieb die Front statisch, und niemand rechnete damit, dass die eine oder andere Seite einen Durchbruchsversuch unternehmen würde. Doch ein jeder Stellungskrieg hat seine Tücken. Es waren die Grünen und ihre Feldherrin Annalena Baerbock, die eine grosse Sommeroffensive starteten und hofften so die schwarzen Linien endlich durchbrechen zu können. Doch der Versuch sich den Weg nach Berlin ins Kanzleramt freizukämpfen scheint gescheitert zu sein. Operation „Jetzt“ brachte nur kurzfristig Entlastung, und mit Schützenhilfe aus Österreich konnten die Schwarzen den Geländegewinn der Grünen vollkommen neutralisieren. In diesem Podcast bespreche ich das buch der Grünen Kanzlerkandidatin Annalena Baerbock und will zudem herausfinden, was ein Regenbogen mit Fussball zu tun hat.

Die Spirale der Gewalt in Nahost dreht sich unermüdlich weiter. Seit Jahren haben wir es mit immer demselben Muster zu tun. Zunächst beschiesst die Hamas Israel mit selbstgebauten Raketen, und dann schlägt die regionale Supermacht mit unverhältnismäßiger Grausamkeit zurück. Doch sind sich viele Beobachter in einem Punkt einig: Diesmal lagen die Dinge etwas anders. Erstmals verläuft eine Konfliktlinie direkt quer durch die Israelische Gesellschaft - jüdische Mehrheit gegen arabische Israelis. Welche Folgen die Verbrüderung von Teilen Israelischer Araber mit Palästinensern in Gaza haben wird bleibt abzuwarten. In dieser Folge meines Podcasts mache ich mir Gedanken über den Zionismus, dem Palästinensischen Nationalismus und möglichen Lösungen.

Der Tübinger Oberbürgermeister Boris Palmer hält seine Partei in Atem. Nach wiederholten kontroversen Aussagen will die Partei ihn nun ausschliessen. Was bedeutet dies für die Debattenkultur in unserem Land?

Vor nicht einmal einem Jahr veröffentlichte eine Gruppe von Intellektuellen einen „Brandbrief“, in welchem sie dem Linksliberalismus vorwarfen ein Klima von Angst und Zensur zu schaffen. Der Linksliberalismus werde, so schrieben die Autoren, dem rechten Spektrum immer ähnlicher. Diese verheerende Entwicklung hat nun auch die deutsche Volkswirtin, Publizistin und Abgeordnete der Linkspartei Sahra Wagenknecht auf den Plan gerufen. Mit Klugheit und Empathie rechnet sie mit dem Linksliberalismus und dem elitären Gehabe der Lifestyle-Linken ab und plädiert für eine humane und tolerante Linke. Hier meine Gedanken zum Thema.

Following my recent piece on joergtretow.com on the Electoral College and voting rights in America, a friend of mine dropped me a line asking, “Why duo you write?” Initially I was taken aback not quite knowing what to say and how to respond.
