"Tales From Suburbia", is a bi-monthly podcast where two lifelong friends (Ashley and Melinda) share our perspectives on life. We grew up in the suburbs of So Cal, hence the name of the podcast and our goal is to help others find their voice in their friendships and discuss how we navigated all of the highs and lows of the last 30 years. We will be releasing an episode on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of every month. Please know that we have set ideas and a loose structure planned for every episode but we want you to feel as if you are just eavesdropping into our conversations.
This week, we took an Enneagram test to see what personality types we are.
Melinda put some random words in a hat and we improvised our thoughts on the topics.
Hey, Hi, Hello! We wanted to let you know about some books we have read the last couple of months. Ashley tends to read modern and contemporary romances as well as sad or emotional stories. Melinda is all about that Fantasy life! Hopefully we provide some insight into something you may want to read or we might mention something that you were thinking about reading and now we have steered you in a different direction.
'This week, we are discussing what we have been up to in our personal lives. We haven't recorded for 3 months so we had some updates to discuss. There was a lot of laughing and Melinda razzing Ashley and talking shit on her therapist that completely ghosted her (the unethicality of it all).
Well, here we are again. This week, we discuss how hard it is to parent Gen Alpha as a Millennial.
This week Melinda and Ashley discuss the little things that make bring them joy. This is a longer episode and was going to be even longer, but it had to be made into two episodes During their discussion, Melin and Ashley went off on a tangent about motherhood. That part of the episode will be released separately in a couple weeks. Enjoy the conversation about food, Disneyland, our kids, but mainly food.
What were people writing in Ashley's Senior yearbook? Listen to find out. Hint, she apparently trauma dumped all over the place. Were these normal yearbook messages? Melinda thinks not.
This week, we look at some films from our childhood that would probably send Gen Z into a coma. The 80's and 90's were not PC and scripts were greenlit that no one would allow today. We decided to delve into some movies that we really enjoyed as kids, but as adults can see that they were problematic AF. ***Just a warning: this episode discusses racism, white supremacy, transphobia, misogyny, and other topics that might be triggering to some.
We are looking back at our first year of being podcasters. We wanted to share what we have learned from our experience and some takeaways that may help you if you were thinking of starting your own podcast. Feel free to ask us more about podcasting.
Melinda and Ashley are in San Diego celebrating 30 years of friendship! Did they do everything they planned on? How many books did they buy? This is the first ever episode recorded with both of them physically in the same pace so that's a new thing. **** Just a heads up. There was a weird scratching noise happening throughout the recording and the only way it could be edited out caused the recording to be quieter than the rest of the recording so enjoy whatever the sound is lol.
We are planning a trip to commemorate 30 years of friendship. What does that look like? What does that mean?
Ash and Melin are reviewing The Mermaid from Jeju: A Novel by Sumi Hahn this week. Did they like it or naw? It was a departure from their typical reading genres but they drew numbers out of a hat and this win out. Will it be their last book review? Only time will tell.
Today we discuss the highs and lows of pregnancy. If hearing about pregnancy or life threatening issues that arise due to pregnancy and delivery trigger you, you may want to pass on today's episode.
Do you make New Year's resolutions? If so, what were they this year? Melinda and Ashley talk about what type of energy they are putting in 2023.
Today we explore our favorite childhood treats that have been discontinued. Will yours be included on the list? Also, who remembers Binaca?
Kam is stepping down from making podcast episodes, but you can still follow him on TikTok at Haunted Tales. Melinda and Ashley will continue to post 2 episodes a month as they have from the beginning.
It's Melinda's birthday today! So let's talk about the fact that Melinda and Ashley LOVE to read, but their tastes differ. Something they do agree on though is, dinosaur erotica is a bit far. This episode starts off innocently enough, or not, but it devolves quickly. We are covering a lot of ground in this episode and it may not be for you. We still love you, don't worry. Warning: Super NSFW!
We duke it out over best and worst choices for holiday side dishes in this week's episode.

Kamron discusses the legend of Eunice “Goody” Cole the only woman accused and exonerated of Witchcraft in New Hampshire as well as the historic and very creepy John Lawson Mannequin house in New York.

In this week's episode, we look at Ashley's birth chart. Is it what Melinda expected? Does Ashley represent Taurus Sun's well? Let's chit chat about some insights astrology can provide for the individual as well as for relationships.
It's October so we are shifting gears. We wanted to dig a little deeper into Astrology. Your birth chart can tell you so much... way more than we have time to explore in two episodes but we are going to try our best. Please take everything mentioned with a grain of salt. Ashley is a novice and in no way an expert. Astrology has become one of her most recent hyper-fixations and she is probably getting a lot wrong but we are here to have fun so just go with it.
Kam and Melinda are talking about San Francisco, the site of their honeymoon. Spoiler alert... they weren't entirely alone during their trip to the Bay. Listen in as they discuss their experience as well as some history of some of San Francisco's most haunted locations.

Kam explores various locations around Old Town San Diego. The El Campo Santo Cemetery as well as the cosmopolitan Hotel and the infamous Whaley House.
Growing up in the suburbs during the 90s meant that there were things we were taught that weren't necessarily true. There were parameters society and our parents gave us for what our lives should look like and what defines "success" but is any of it true for us now? Will future generations even care about home ownership or college degrees? We are taking a microscope to those topics and more this week.
Welcome back! Today Kam is exploring the Sybil Brand Institute in Los Angeles, CA. He discusses the history of the location, and brings in a special guest to talk about their personal experiences with the location. Happy Hauntings! Background music featured in this episode is from zapslat.com
This week, we are talking about embarrassing moments and reflecting on if any of it really matters. Is it normal to be a klutz? When you have fallen in public, did someone help you or laugh at you? Did you have any embarrassing moments caught on camera? I would venture a guess that if you were born prior to 1990, the answer to that question is probably "no". What type of energy should you bring to the table? All that and more in this episode.
Kamron shares the history and paranormal side of Lake Elsinore's Military and Naval Academy. Listen to evidence gathered from paranormal investigations of the site as well as his own personal experience visiting this haunted location.
Melinda and Ashley decided to let it all out today via rant. What were the topics they debated? Beets, shopping cart a-holes, cheese, and of course, fonts. Gotta love the chaos. Please enjoy the first installment of "Bitch O'clock".
In the premiere episode, Kamron and Melinda explore Kamron's early childhood and where his love and fascination with the paranormal all began... right in his childhood home. Happy Hauntings !

Ashley shares her gift of giving off a welcoming energy even though her personality screams "get away". Melinda shares her gift of intuition and connections to the universe's hints regarding what fates may lie around the corner. Please feel free to listen and laugh with us.
TW: This episode mentions toxic diet culture. Please skip if this kind of content is harmful to you. Apparently, we love to punish ourselves. In this episode we took a trip back to the 90s to discuss the harm caused by the trends surrounding weight loss. The 90s and early 2000's were full of trends that were neither physically nor mentally healthy. There is so much to unpack in this week's episode, but sometimes reflecting on the past helps us gain clearer perspectives in the present.
Get a snack or two because this is a long one. In this episode, we had the teens we know ask us some questions. We cover some childhood stupidity, the housing market, systemic issues in education and taxes! What a wild ride. Thank you to my son and Melinda's niece for submitting their questions. We love you both!

We are looking back at how our friendship first began, friends we made along the way, and also friends we decided to part ways with.
Here is part two of us asking each other burning questions that we need answers to. This one takes a few turns and gets spicy so buckle up for that ride.
Welcome back to another episode. We decided to ask each other questions to see if we can learn anything new and boy did we learn some things!
Hi Guys! We are Melinda and Ashley, two lifelong friends that decided to make a podcast to talk about friendships. This being our first episode, we wanted to give some context on why we have remained friends for as long as we have and also the lessons we learned in order to get here. In this episode we talk about four pillars of importance when it comes to maintaining a relationship: Communication, effort, like-mindedness and of course honesty! So, grab a drink of your choosing and listen in as we reminisce about our friendship, our friendship breakup, and see if Ashley can remember traumatizing an entire second grade classroom.
