What actually turns “I should write a book someday” into a finished book you can hold in your hands? ---------------Lisa DiNoto Glassner, founder of The Castle Run and author of The runDisney Companion, shares how she took years of experience in a very specific niche and turned it into her first self-published book, without waiting for an agent, publisher, or anyone else's permission.Lisa breaks down how a simple outline made the project manageable, why your experience may be more valuable than traditional credentials, and how she kept control of the entire publishing process. She also explains how she funded the project through trusted brand partnerships, protected her readers' trust, and built a larger business ecosystem around the book.Key Points:Your experience and repeated reps can be the credentials you need to write the book.Turn the idea into something tangible by creating an outline and breaking the book into manageable sections.Control scope by remembering who the book is for and accepting that you don't have to say everything in one book.Self-publishing can give you ownership of the entire process, from your ISBN and editing to distribution and sales.Consider flat-fee partnerships with brands you already trust instead of relying solely on affiliate commissions.Protect reader trust by recommending partners organically and being clear about your financial relationships. When writing about a brand you don't own, be thoughtful about trademarks, intellectual property, disclaimers, and how you reference that brand.Build beyond the book with companion resources, email capture, podcasts, and other ways to bring readers into your own audience. You don't need to know every part of publishing before you start. You need confidence that you can learn what you don't know.Resources:The runDisney Companion is officially out today!Grab Lisa's new book and learn everything you need to know to plan, prepare for, and experience a runDisney race weekend:https://thecastlerun.com/book/More from Lisa DiNoto Glassner:The Castle Run: https://thecastlerun.com/Companion Resources and Reader Bonuses: https://thecastlerun.com/companionInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thecastlerunnerPublishing Resources Mentioned:Lulu: https://www.lulu.com/BookFunnel: https://bookfunnel.com/Bowker: https://www.bowker.com/Connect with Zac Brown:Zac Brown Creative Solutions: https://zacbrowncreativesolutions.com/ and The Zac Brown Show Podcast----------------------Ecamm - Your go-to solution for crafting outstanding live shows and podcasts. - Get 15% off your first payment with promo code JEFF15CreatorNewsLive.com - Dive into our website for comprehensive episode breakdowns.Youtube.com - Tune in live, chat with us directly, and be part of the conversation. Matthew Kirschenbaum delivered Rare Book School's 2026 Sol M. and Mary Ann O'Brian Malkin Endowed Lecture, "From text to .txt: Making Material Messes in a Sloppy World," on 6 July 2026. About the Talk: By the turn of the millennium, the word “text” had become a verb. Three-and-a-half years ago, ChatGPT was released into the wild, decisively severing the link between writing and human expression. In 2025, Merriam-Webster's word of the year was “slop.” This talk will offer an attenuated archaeology of what someone we know once called the textual condition. And not to give away the game, but that condition is not good: today, text functions as something much more like a fossil fuel or other extractable resource than a medium for communication and expression. Nonetheless, the talk also asks how we can still make some good old fashioned material messes in a world of slop. Examples will be provided. Refreshments will be served. There may even be a book or two. About the Speaker: Matthew Kirschenbaum rejoined UVA in 2025 as Commonwealth Professor of Artificial Intelligence and English after 25 years at the University of Maryland, where he finished as a Distinguished University Professor. He considers himself a student of texts and textual technologies in all their social and material forms, and his scholarship and teaching have explored literary intersects with printing and bookmaking, archival science, media archaeology, digital humanities, and now artificial intelligence. He is the author of three books, most recently Bitstreams: The Future of Digital Literary Heritage from the University of Pennsylvania Press (2021). His first book, Mechanisms: New Media and the Forensic Imagination (2008) was the winner of multiple awards, including the MLA Prize for a First Book. Track Changes: A Literary History of Word Processing (2016) enjoyed widespread public media attention. Recent articles have appeared in PMLA, Critical Inquiry, and ELH; and he frequently writes for popular outlets, which have included the Atlantic, the Washington Post, Slate, Los Angeles Review of Books, Public Books, and the Chronicle of Higher Education. Kirschenbaum is an active member of the Modern Language Association's task force on AI in Research and Teaching, and a member of the teaching faculty at Rare Book School. He has been a Guggenheim and an NEH Fellow, and is a practicing letterpress printer. Current projects includes two books, the first on the political economy of text in the present moment and the second on the weaponization of AI in what some have called a full-blown epistemic crisis. You can find him on Bluesky at @mkirschenbaum.bsky.social.

Here's the strange part: she can still recall events from later books, but she'd completely forgotten the plot of the very first one, including the fact that the main character spends the book trying to attend a normal high school. So how does a childhood favorite hold up when you remember the series but not the beginning?Sam and Danielle discuss:-Revisiting a YA favorite nearly 20 years later-Why Book 1 felt almost like a brand-new read-The celebrity-meets-normal-life premise-Which parts still work today and which feel very much like the mid-2000's-Whether this series deserves a modern rereadThere's something fascinating about rediscovering a story you thought you knew. Maas.Honestly, the author's ability to inspire devotion deserves academic study. We talk about:• First-time reactions to Throne of Glass• Why the “it gets better later” recommendation is so fascinating• What did (and didn't) work for us• Whether we understand the fandom… at allIf you've ever pushed through a first book because everyone swore the series improves, this one is for you.New episodes every Monday at 8 AM EST ✨Next week: Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins⏱️ Time Stamps00:00 Intro01:51 Background06:35 Age Level & Content Warning08:21 Judge a Book by Its Cover10:46 Discussion01:05:32 General Thoughts01:08:36 One Question for the Author01:09:57 Rating01:10:59 Read Again?01:11:40 Outro

Humans have been speaking languages for tens of thousands of years. We told stories around fires, passed down myths from parents to children, and memorised important information about survival and history. But for a very long time, nobody could write anything down. Then, at some point, humans invented writing. Writing allowed people to record laws, preserve stories, collect knowledge, and communicate across generations. Eventually, writing gave us books. Today, I want to explore the history of books, from ancient clay tablets in Mesopotamia to modern audiobooks and e-books on smartphones. We'll look at the origins of writing, the oldest surviving texts, the first true “books,”  the world's first novels, the printing revolution, the bestselling books in history, and finally… the future of reading itself. And we will do all of this while learning some new vocabulary and practicing your English listening comprehension. This Alabaster Grave is Cengiz Yar's first monograph exploring the overwhelming destruction and pain faced by the Iraqi city of Mosul, within the context of its history and unique, now largely ruined, architecture. The book questions the cost of the fight against ISIS and global war on terror as told through the lives and city that bore the brunt of its destructive force. The photographs were made between 2015 and 2023 and fluctuate between reportage and moments of contemplation. The book includes a foreword from Azmat Khan, an essay by Campbell MacDiarmid, and a pullout map. It is designed by Jason Koxvold of Gnomic Book and written in both English and Arabic.Near the end of the show Michael also asks Cengiz about his time in Minnesota during the height of the ICE protests.https://www.cengizyar.comThis podcast is sponsored by the Charcoal Book Club - Begin Building your dream photobook library today at:https://charcoalbookclub.comCengiz is a documentary photographer and editor based in El Paso, Texas. What if the most important chapter of your life hasn't been written yet?In this rare in-person conversation, Patricia Sands opens up about grief, reinvention, aging, creativity, and the unexpected power of starting late.Patricia published her first novel at 65. Today, at 80, she has written 13 books — many set in France, a country she fell in love with at 21 while backpacking with friends. But before the novels, there was loss. Widowed at 43. Two sons. A life rewritten overnight. We explore how grief shaped her storytelling, why community saved her creative life, how AI unexpectedly helped her research historical fiction, and what it really means to write from intuition. This is a conversation about dignity, aging, reinvention, and why it's never too late to become who you are.A special shout out to my co-host Valentin Randon.
