I invited Will to come back on the show to get a deeper understanding of his past, current and future thoughts on what we all hold so dearly. And of course some fun stories of favorite places and the people that made them special.
Ronnie Cowan has the best job on campus, and maybe the most important one. He is the Outdoor Recreation Specialist at the University of Tennessee. We talk about his vision for the program, his new found love of waterfowl hunting, his young Labrador and his first non pointing, pointing dog..... We also cover wild hogs, bears and getting the quail back!
Terry Wilson was NAVHDA's Vice President. His recent passing left a hole that will be hard to fill. Personally I only knew him from a few conversations and judging with him once. His passion for the dogs and friends he made along the way, was evident in his actions, support and philanthropy.
I took a road trip to North Dakota with the dogs to see some friends and work the dogs. Then I dropped to South Dakota to lock up my plans for the fall. For the first time I feel like I am packed and ready to go, even though its 5 plus months away. This season will be another bumper year. Not because of the birds, but because of the friends I have made, and the ones I hope to meet
Laura Reeves joins me to share her four plus decades of breeding, testing, and showing her German Wirehair Pointers. Along with some breeds you dont see to often in the field. Laura has been podcasting almost as long as me. So heres what two OG podcasters do, we talk DOG..
Jennifer Broome just launched another book to help folks sort through the puppy mind and what we humans need to know, before, during and forever!! And in the intro we get an update from my grandson's first successful turkey hunt.

I went down to get a barrel of beer from Watermark Brewery, and it turned into one of my favorite conversations. Like many of us, the idea to jump into the world of hunting with dogs can get us a little over our skis. It's no different than anyone who has the passion to start something that they know nothing about. Yet they have the desire and passion to stick it out and make the best of it!!
I asked listeners if there was anything they would like to ask me about...anything. So I sorted out all the ones that would giver this podcast an R rating, and heres whats left!
One of the few podcasts that I have ever done solo. I went down memory lane to cap off a few of my firsts in the world of birds, dogs, guns and friends, that have known, loved and miss.
Cam and Paul wrap up their epic trip to hunt birds in Morocco. The story just keep getting better. U.S. customs adds a final layer to what could possibly go wrong on such a perfect trip!
My friends Cam and Paul were invited to Morocco to hunt quail. What could go wrong?? This was an adventure of a lifetime that proves wingshooters are all the same. No matter where we go, who we hunt with or what dogs are on the ground. This is part one of their adventure.
Justin Mcgrail comes on the podcast to share what many of his clients and Upland Institute users still have trouble with. We go in depth with how a dog learns, and how we communicate with them!
Jeff, Chad and myself chat about the Federation and it's commitment to a testing system that gives owners, breeders and breed clubs the best information on their pups, dogs and their hunting ability. No ribbons. No Prizes. Just results!
Chris Ingram is the editor of a new publication that has roots older than your great grandfather. American Field has been publishing stories of the best dogs, places and events since 1874. When the United Kennel Club picked up the reigns, it was to preserve that heritage. Look for this new Journal to bring all dog people together. and use the code (huntingdogpodcast) to get your journey started
I got to sit down with Blaine Carter while I was in Bozeman last week. Time spent with him is always fun and informative. I asked Blaine questions about his process of developing a young dog for it's future. From guns to birds and everything he does to along the way.
Bob St. Pierre joins me to talk about the upcoming Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic in Kansas City. We also recap our 2024 season along with a few surprise subjects. This was nearly a two thousand mile round trip for me. I get a lot of invites to hunt around this country, but this one, felt like I could not pass it up. The trip, the people, and the birds, did not disappoint!
I consider Bob a friend who I have yet to meet in person. We have talked over the years and even co-hosted a trivia game during Covid. Bob give us his take one the most common questions that all new dog owners ask.
I hope you enjoy this as much I did recording it. Weather is dogs, guns, hunting or just a conversation about passions that fuel us. My journey in Jiu-Jitsu started almost nine years ago, and it has many comparisons to my first bird dog!
Brent and I have been friends for many years. So of course we need to sit down and catch up on our season, our dogs, our misses and our hits!
The efforts that go into building relationships and habitat, have come together. The Ruffed Grouse Society and OnX hunt are working on the next chapter of advocacy. What we love as upland hunters can not be taken for granted. I see the next generation of hunters will be the BEST!
Kyle Hough joins me to answer the most asked questions. Every trainer has a few tricks up their sleeve. We get Kyles methods for developing pups for testing and hunting.
Kevin Robling is the Department Secretary of South Dakota Game Fish & Parks. And thanks to Kevin and his team across the state, they will continue to have the BEST hunting, fishing and camping reputation in the entire country. We talk about why South Dakota is the number one non-resident bird hunting state and how they are planning for the next hundred years. Oh yeah, and we talk about his dogs and mine.
I am so glad I ran into these guys a couple of years ago. Alberto and Adrian got their start in an unconventional way. Their journey is one that is family based. Family founded and dog centric. Desire and cooperation traits are not canine specific. They are human specific!!
Doctor Jay came on the podcast to talk all things hunting dog. he has developed an Online support system for the hunting dog community that gives you assistance with veterinary education, resources, and teleducation. Jay is a lifelong bird hunter that is there to support you when you need advise, knowledge or a second opinion.
I was able to get Anthony and Will to jump on the show and talk all things shotguns. From their start to the present day. Why we miss and why we could be better! Sure a good dog helps find cripples, but a great shot puts birds in the bag.
Stopping off on my way home from the annual South Dakota trip, I hit some spots with a great group of locals, who welcomed me with open fields, open doors and opened beers. For those of you who say it's all about the dogs.... well, for me it's all about the friends!
On my way home from SD I stopped into the Boss headquarters. While my dog Vee ran from office to office, I brought the recorder into Brandon Cerecke's office and went on a deep dive on all things BOSS from their legecy brand to the new Warchief and a couple others you may not have heard about. It's easy to see why this company has taken over the marshes and the prairies by storm ( no pun intended ;)
Our annual trip to White Lake Hunting Lodge was a blast! Seeing old friends, making new friends and sharing the field with our dogs and the state bird of South Dakota.
Welcoming back Jennifer Broome for a second round on the podcast. We cover a lot of ground so this is a long one you don't want to miss. Looking for the trivia video? Click here! As promised, Jordan returns to the show to give us a 360 degree view of hunting birds in Alaska. From the interior to the coast, access is everywhere and so are the birds, but the logistics of hunting, training and just owning bird dogs in Alaska are the real tests of how dedicated one needs to be a wingshooter in The Last Frontier!
Danielle Prewett joins me and my daughter Jessi to talk cooking, hunting, calories and birds dogs. Something I never thought about when I started hunting. Celebrating a hunt with a recipe that adds to the memories, is worth the effort. Her new book will give you a guide to make wild game into the meal it deserves.

OnX assembled the panel to give a Master Class. From summer dog training, to feeding, to conditioning. You name it we covered it.
A new neighbor moved in last year. I saw a Beagle on his mailbox and thought who is this guy? turns out he's another one of us. Dog nuts, dog crazy and loves his pack to sleep under the covers!
After attending a memorial service for a long time friend, who was an incredible upland hunter and top shelf friend, I reconnected with a bunch of friends that I haven't seen in quite sometime. So of course we hung out and turned on the recorder!
More than the dogs, more than the birds. It's the friends we make along the way that put the icing on the cake!!
