Its inevitable that when the annual St. Paddy's Day game rolls around, our thoughts drift to the history of the team we love, and this year is no exception, so we begin the show remembering Pat Burns. In this episode, the Good the Bad and the Ugly returns and we spotlight the performances of Ilya Samsonov and Pontus Holmberg, critique of Sheldon Keefe's coaching decisions, as well as express our concerns about the penalty kill. Then for the Third Period we welcome Rachel Doerrie to help us analyze the Leafs' performance at the trade deadline. We discuss various topics related to the Leafs' moves, including the impact of not having a second-round pick, the goaltending situation for the playoffs, and the evaluation of Timothy Liljegren. And she pulls no punches with respect to her thoughts on Keefe's adjustments in the wake of Mitch Marner's injury! She is a wealth of knowledge and we appreciated her expert analysis and had fun getting to know her a bit better. To wrap up we preview the upcoming games and discuss the team's playoff positioning. Lots still to iron out before the playoffs begin. Go Leafs Go! Takeaways The Toronto St. Pat's hockey team holds a special place in the hearts of Leafs fans. Reaching 200 subscribers on YouTube is a significant milestone for the show. Ilya Samsonov has been performing exceptionally well for the Leafs. Sheldon Keefe's coaching decisions have been a topic of discussion and critique. The Leafs' penalty kill needs improvement. The Leafs' performance at the trade deadline was disappointing. Not having a second-round pick may have hurt the Leafs at the trade deadline, but the value of draft picks is often overestimated by other teams. The Leafs should consider a rotation between their goaltenders in the playoffs to keep them fresh and maximize their performance. Timothy Liljegren has shown promise and should be given more opportunities to prove himself. While analytics and data analysis are important, it's also important to enjoy watching the game and not get too caught up in the numbers. The Leafs' upcoming games and playoff positioning will be crucial in determining their success in the postseason. "If Pat Burns were one of the dogs he trains, he would have put in 261 years on the job by now. If you're doing the math that equates to more than three decades of coaxing canines into champions and helping handlers handle those canine champions. Pat Burns Elite Retriever Training, serving clients both nationally and abroad, was inspired by Burns' love of dogs and hunting from an early age." Read more about Pat here! Tonight we have a very special podcast for a few reasons. First, Bob and Blaine host the show together, which is something we haven't done before but also, we had the extreme pleasure of chatting with one of the greatest dog trainers around, Pat Burns of Elite Retrievers. Pat has 3+ decades of training and competing at the highest levels possible. Think about that for a second...because it's wild. He is one of the most knowledgeable trainers currently in the game and boy, do we dig into some awesome training discussions. Bob, Blaine and Pat chat about a variety of training topics that you could apply to your dog (regardless of the level they're currently at). They begin discussing the importance of building trust and challenging dogs, especially with high level dogs. Pat emphasized that each dog should have a strong foundation and he encourages people treat it like an investment in the dog's lifetime, so don't rush the small steps. He also pointed out that most people fail because of the "simple" things at a test like sitting and other obedience things. Then we dig into some topics Pat is meticulous with like whistle sits. We often get questions about how we train for this and Pat explains his process, which begins way before you actually teach a dog to sit on a whistle. Finally, we end the show with some parting advice from Pat. Overall, this show was extremely educational and interesting. Be patient and invest in your dog, it'll be worth it. If you enjoyed listening to Pat, then check him out at Elite Retrievers and catch one of his seminars... you won't be disappointed. Cheers! Lone Duck's Gun Dog Chronicles is part of the Waypoint Outdoor Podcast Gang. If you like our show, then you will sincerely enjoy some of the other awesome shows they have.
In this one, Jim describes his bad car accident this week. We discuss the Stanley Cup playoffs, with only four teams remaining and the excitement level this time of year. Minnesota tough guy Shayne Churla was the ultimate "chirping wingman" for his teammates. Russ has a great take on why the retiring Jason Spezza is an outstanding hire for the Leafs. The Manson family are on opposite sides in the Edmonton-Colorado series. Russ had dinner with members of the LA Rams this week and Bones McKay, Phil Mickelson's longtime caddy who left NBC to work for Justin Thomas and immediately wins a PGA Championship.

Rob has some great stories from his days covering the Montreal Canadiens during the 80's and 90's – the years Russ was there. They talk about the Habs' 1990 "Friendship Tour" of the Soviet Union, including the infamous final game against the Red Army when an ugly brawl broke out. The OHL's Sudbury Wolves actually had a stuffed, mangy Sudbury wolf to help them celebrate goals? Rob not only covered the Habs but he's still a pretty big Habs' fan today. Russ talks about the good work he and his brothers are doing with the Courtnall Society for Mental Health. Rob is asked about recent allegations that some media members infringe on athlete mental health. The fellas also look at some of the top sports moments in 2021, including Montreal's surprise run to the Cup Final. Russ' daughters are carrying on the Team Canada tradition!
Pat gives a rundown on this giant New England buck, and everything it took to pull it off. From a lucky strike on a giant shed, to the 6-year journey through the North Woods to locate his bed, Pat did everything textbook for a Midwest target buck hunt. The only difference is he did it in an area that is nearly impossible to pull off. Giant mountain laurel, knee deep snow, and heavy outside pressure all lead to a picture-perfect scenario that allowed him to pull it off. You'll want to dive into this one and get a new perspective of hunting the big woods up North. ----------------------------- The Outdoor Drive Podcast Official Website: Theoutdoordrive.com Be Sure to Check Out Our Partners- Gator Outdoors: gatoroutdoors.com Promo Code: Outdoordrive25 for 25% off your entire order Novix Treestands: novixoutdoors.com Promo Code: Outdoordrive15 for 15% off Novix products Zues Broadheads: neweraarchery.com Latitude Outdoors: latitudeoutdoors.com Nor'easter Game Calls: nor-eastergamecalls.com

One of my favorite lines in Kate DiCamillo's Newbery Winning children's story, The Tale of Despereaux, is “Stories are light. Light is precious in a world so dark. Begin at the beginning. Tell a story. Make some light.” Today, Pat Burns, the Executive Director and Co-founder of the Orange County Children's Book Festival, one the largest in North America, joins the Lit Matters podcast to shine a bright light on the importance of reading, story-telling, and the power of the written word for children. In episode 139 of the Glass and Out Podcast, we welcome Stanley Cup champ and NHL coach Kirk Muller. Ask anyone who has had a chance to meet or be coached by Muller, and they'd likely tell you that he fits the profile of a "modern coach" to a tee. With the shift from a dictatorship style of leadership, to one where the leader seeks to connect with their team, he has made relationship building a priority in every stop he's made throughout his career. Muller had a remarkable NHL playing career of 19 seasons and nearly 1500 games, highlighted by scoring the Stanley Cup clinching goal for Montreal in Game 5 of the 1993 Final. Following retirement, he would get his first shot at coaching with Queen's University in 2005. After just one season, he'd make the jump to the NHL and join his former club in Montreal as an assistant coach. In total, Muller has spent 10 of 15 seasons behind an NHL bench as an assistant with the Canadiens. His lone head coaching gig came with the Carolina Hurricanes for three seasons (2011-2014). During his career, Muller has had the chance to work with and learn from an incredible list of coaches. That includes Lou Lamoriello, Pat Burns, Dave Tippett, Ken Hitchcock, Bob Gainey, Guy Carbonneau, Jim Rutherford, Alain Vigneault, Doug Armstrong, and Claude Julien. After being relieved of his assistant coaching duties with Montreal earlier this season, Muller is currently without a coaching job. But with his resume, knowledge of the game and ability to connect with his players, there's no doubt that he'll find his way back to the NHL sooner rather than later. Find out how he approaches relationship building with his players, what he sees as the pillars to a successful program.

We continue in segment three with Tom Chorske and getting traded to the New Jersey Devils. He was having a tough time playing for Pat Burns in Montreal and a fresh start is what he felt would help him. He arrived in New Jersey when the fortunes of the team were changing. Scott Stevens came to the team and the building process was started for the Devils. Tommy McVie was his coach and told him "we are going to teach you how to play the game at the NHL level". He noticed how Lou Lamoriello who was the President and GM of the Devils operated and he learned the system and style that was presented. The culture and environment of the team grew and the team got close. Once that happened success started to gel for the Devils. Tom learned his role with the Devils on being a Penalty Killer and learning about how to battle for the puck along the boards. He was on the top group for penalty killing and played against Lemieux, Messier, Sakic. Learning the system was vital to success. Also, learning where you fit in on the team. He was on the top group We also discuss Patrick Roy and Marty Brodeur. Tom had the pleasure of playing with both of them in his NHL career. One thing that always stuck out to him was they never let pucks stay in their nets during drills in practice. Felt it would show they gave up goals and they wanted a clean net. Here is part three of five with Tom Chorske....

Todd Warriner was initially best known as an NHL player, but now many recognize him as broadcaster and analyst with Sportsnet. At the OHL level, Todd was a force. After a fantastic rookie campaign at 16 years old, he netted 41 goals in only 50 games for the Windsor Spitfires in his draft year. His stat line, excellent skating ability and competitive nature earned him the 4th overall selection by the Quebec Nordiques, in the 1992 entry draft. However, many thought (including Todd and his agent) that he going to go 1st. We get into that incredible story on the episode. Todd would never play a game for the Nords though as he was a piece of a blockbuster trade in 1994 that sent Mats Sundin to the Leafs in return for Wendal Clark. But before he got traded to the Leafs, Quebec management suggested he play with the Canadian Men’s Olympic team. It was the 1993-94 season and the Olympics were being held in Lillehamer. Todd made the choice to join the team, and he chronicles that teams rise to an Olymypic silver medal. Warriner went on to play for 6 NHL teams (Leafs, Ligthning, Coyotes, Canucks, Flyers, Predators) racking up 453 games. Todd also spent time in Europe, experiencing time in Finland, Switzerland and Germany. We hear some great stories in this episode, including how he got his nickname “One-touch” in his rookie year in the NHL and also some stern advice from coach Pat Burns. Todd had some tech problems so we had to cut this interview short, so consider it Part 1. Please enjoy, Todd Warriner.
This week, the guys welcomed the legendary Shayne Corson to the podcast. [32:00] Shayne took us down memory lane from his time with the Habs, Leafs, Oilers and Blues. We reminisced about his experience playing in Montreal in two different eras, playing with The Great One, the 1998 Winter Olympics, one of the best Pat Burns stories ever told, and, his involvement in mental health awareness. Mike, John and Mo spoke of the newly acquired Joel Edmundson signing with the Habs, they covered Bergevin’s media tour and some of the highlights including his comments on Price, Domi and Gallagher. They mused as to whether this is the golden age of Bergevin’s tenure given all of our cap space, draft picks and strong prospect pool.

They don't produce a ton of hockey talent out of Vermont, but when they do....look out! John LeClair, one of the most lethal goal scorers of his era drops by the Cam and Strick Podcast to talk about his incredible career in the game. From winning a Stanley Cup in Montreal to helping form the "Legion of Doom" in Philly, LeClair is one of a handful of players to score at least 50 goals in three consecutive seasons. He along with Eric Lindros and Mikael Renberg formed one of the most famous lines in hockey history with the Flyers. From Pat Burns, to Jacques Dermers, to Ken Hitchcock, Leclair played for some great coaches in addition to having some Hall of Fame teammates. What were his impressions of these guys? You might be surprised what he had to say. Plus his thoughts on playing with a young Sidney Crosby in addition to Lindros who he has mad respect for. How did they handle a young mouthy Crosby? What did he think of the Scott Stevens hit on Lindros and how did that hit impact the Flyers potential of creating a dynasty? Not to mention he's an American hero who helped USA hockey take a giant leap in international play. Lohn LeClair, he doesn't say much but when he does people listen. Check him out of this addition of the Cam and Strick Podcast.

Today's Under the Radar topic is ‘the professions'—with a twist. It's about professionals with whom we come in contact regularly, but professionals we really don't know much about. I can't think of a job that has been more in the spotlight since 9/11 than U.S. Customs. My guest, Pat Burns, demystifies what's involved in being a Customs Officer, including talking about the many challenges associated with the job.
He might be hockey's most interesting man. Episode 62 of the Pro Hockey Alumni Podcast features Robin Burns — one of the most entertaining and impactful people to ever play in the NHL. As a left wing for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Kansas City Scouts in the 1970s, Burns was know as a fun guy, a natural comedian and the life of the party. But Robin was also a visionary, who would eventually pioneer one of the most important hockey equipment innovations: the visor. After rising to president of Micron skate company, Robin founded a long shot startup called ITECH in the basement of his Montreal home. ITECH would grow into one of the three biggest hockey companies in the world. This was just one of many successful business endeavors for Robin, who, in his spare time, would also become an agent for several NHL coaches, including his cousin Pat Burns. We'll follow Robin's incredible journey from his youth in Montreal and the Montreal Junior Canadiens, to the American Southwest, Hershey, Pittsburgh and Kansas City and right through his inspirational rise to the top of the hockey business mountain. Despite his entrepreneurial success, Robin remains a humble self-effacing guy and one of the best storytellers in hockey. The 1992-93 Campbell Conference Final was riveting. 7 games in all, the series between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Los Angeles Kings had all the elements of high drama. In his new book, The Last Good Year (Viking / Penguin Random House), veteran sportswriter Damien Cox (Toronto Star, Sportsnet) revisits the events that took place on and off the ice a quarter-century after he covered them as a beat writer. Marty McSorley slugging it out with Wendel Clark. Pat Burns’ hot pursuit toward Barry Melrose. Don Cherry kissing Doug Gilmour on the cheek. Glenn Anderson’s OT winner. Game 6, Kerry Fraser, a high stick and a non-call, followed by “the best game” of Wayne Gretzky’s career two nights later at Maple Leaf Gardens. It’s all there, presented under the overarching theme that what transpired eventually marked a dividing line. The game was about to change under a newly hired commissioner and those 13 nights in May, define a now by-gone era. Lend us your ears for a conversation with Cox about what unfolded 25 years ago, that for so many, is as vivid as yesterday.

Yesterday was Thanksgiving, so that means triple the Thursday Night football to cover on this post-turkey edition of One on One's NFL Friday. Mack Rosenberg and Shaun Cohen take a look at all three of yesterday's Thanksgiving matchups, including a big win in Detroit, a Dallas comeback, and an exciting nightcap between the Steelers and Ravens in Baltimore. The guys then move on to some local football, as both the Jets and Giants look to rebound from tough Week 12 losses on Sunday. Eric Mollo brings us his weekly Giants report, as Mack and Shaun discuss how monumental the Giants loss to the Cowboys was, and how now even running the table may not be enough for the G-Men to make it to the postseason. Kris Venezia then brings us his weekly Jets report, and the guys look at how even though Gang Green has looked miserable lately, they're still in the AFC Playoff hunt as a matchup with AFC Rival Miami looms, who also sit at 5-6. Speaking of the playoffs, Mack and Shaun then take a look at that crowded AFC Wild Card chase, as well as things on the NFc side, where San Fran and Arizona look to be destined for a fight to the finish for the 6 spot. The guys then also discuss the losing situation in Washington, and whether or not RGIII should be playing this season. Bobby Gubin joins the fun with his Believe it or Not Segment along with his start ems and sit ems, and last but certainly not least, stays in for the always exciting staff picks. We've got some changes to the leaderboard heading into Week 13, as Pat Burns has surged up the leaderboard with his 4-1 week 12 and now sits dangerous close behind Bobby for first place and just ahead of Kenny for third. Nolan Silbernagel's 1-4 performance last week has broke Kelly Kultys out of the basement as Nolan now sits alone in last place. In a culture obsessed with youth, our grandparents' value is often overlooked. Today's guests challenge the stereotype of 'granny'. Pat Burns is the co-founder of the Orange County Children's Book Festival and the author of Grandparents Rock: The Grandparenting Guide for the Rock-n-Roll Generation. And Sylvia Lieberman (Dr. Carole's mom) is the author of the new children's book, Archibald's Swiss Cheese Mountain.
