    Episode 3: A Para's Perspective

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 21, 2019 20:51

In this short episode I interview a paraprofessional during a brief lunch period (lunch periods are always brief!) Perspective, that's one of the reasons I do this show. I'm embarrassed to share that in my years of teaching, this was only maybe the second time I actually sat down with a paraprofessional to get a para's perspective on education, their role, their vision, their philosophy on education, and their perceived challenges. Surely, I talk to paras all the time - all day, everyday, usually. But, this is a different kind of talk. A talk that teachers and para need to sit down and have more often.  Lack of time is the reason why teachers and paras typically only talk on the go and don't sit down very often to discuss perspectives and plan how to support students most effectively. It's not fair that we don't typically have the time to meet with paras or related services providers, but it feels like a thing we, the teachers, should try to do even if it is one lunch period with one para one time in a year. I hope you'll find this interview informative and that it'll give you some food for thought, as it gave me.
