What Your History Teacher Probably Didn't Tell You And the Government Doesn't Want You to Know! Are tariffs good or bad? Will they bring manufacturing back to the U.S.? What is some of the history on tariffs? Was Abraham Lincoln really honest? If so, why did he interfere in elections, suspend habeous corpus, confiscate guns, and throw journalists in jail for not reporting what he wanted? We talk about all these things and more, mentioning parts of history that are probably not being taught in the government school system. Julius Caesar wasn't just a great general—his love life was just as legendary! He had affairs with powerful women, including Cleopatra, the Queen of Egypt, which caused quite the scandal in Rome. Some even whispered that he had relationships with men, shocking Roman society even more. His many romances made him enemies, as jealous rivals used his love affairs to question his loyalty and ambition. Despite the gossip, Caesar knew how to turn his charm into political power. His love scandals were so wild that your history teacher probably left out the juiciest details—but don't worry, we've got them all! Credit: Retrato de Julio César: By Ángel M. Amanda Clawson and her Grade 4 students recently won a contest naming Hancock Health's new da Vinci 5 surgical system robot. The Sugar Creek Elementary teacher said, “I just went for it, and the kids were excited about it. I didn't really think anything would come of it or that we would win because the whole county could enter, but it was just exciting for the kids to win.”The robot, one of 1,700 in the country, is used in surgeries for hernias, gallbladder and uterine-related issues. Other Indianapolis-area hospitals also have the technology that allows patients to have minimally invasive procedures, faster healing and shorter downtimes.Student Lili Appleget said, “There's like little microscopes, and it'll poke little holes so it can get to what it needs to get to.”Appleget who came up with the idea to name it “Gizmo.” The fourth graders voted on the name and submitted it for the contest. Lili thinks the name will make kids comfortable when they are in the hospital, and that it's easy to pronounce.Clawson's class got to take a trip to the hospital to learn how the robot works. For the teacher, the experience was not just about winning, but also about giving her students a chance to see the impact of their efforts and learn that they can be a part of something much bigger than themselves. “Especially to have them have important community members recognize their writing and pay attention to their writing. They don't get that very often.”The teacher hopes to enter future classes in similar competitions to show her students that they have a powerful voice in science, technology, and beyond. “It was fun, engaging. It got the kids to write more. Even if it wasn't a writing project, it was more of a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) project, but we included writing with it, so something math related could be fun in the future or continuing our writing journey.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Gudrun Edhoer is Maths and History Teacher from Austria. Her students are 10 - 18 yrs old. She has been teaching for 26 years and still enjoys every single lesson with my classes. Onenote and Teams have been her permanent companions for almost 10 years. So her students were perfectly able to cope with distance learning during the pandemic. A very good friend of her (Susanna Jilka) introduced her to the Austrian Microsoft community. And she can say that she is very proud that she had been an MIEE since 2017. Her main goals as a teacher are to ignite my student's curiosity about learning, to show them the world beyond the classroom and help them to become well educated and happy adults.

The most defining difference between people in the US is not cultural, racial, ethnic, or gender based, but ideological. Second in the summer reading series is the title, "Lies My Liberal Teacher Told Me" by Winfred Reilly. The obvious relation to the older text "Lies My Teacher Told Me" by James Loewen is obvious. Where Reilly is upfront of his bias, Loewen obscures it (along with Howard Zinn). Reilly's work would help the diversity, equity, and inclusion that is championed in most classrooms today. Charlie Grossman, History Teacher, and Mary Gentry, Math Teacher, at Breck School (MN) discuss how to facilitate civil discourse in the classroom and how to address polarization with the impending election. They detail how they created and navigated a course around the general election in 2016, lessons learned, and what the course might look like this year. Mary and Charlie also share how they focus on connection before content in the classroom and try to create a “brave space” for their students. Ultimately, our conversation ends on an uplifting note - with the two educators focusing on how their students and colleagues inspire them, and how this time of polarization creates an opportunity for independent schools to shine. "The tendency of the 21st century classroom teacher today is to use more technology in their classrooms and often times, students abuse it, teachers misuse it, and we all start to, well… lose it! There are lots of books, blogs, vlogs, webinars, professional development sessions, and even conference headliners, all trying to convert classroom teachers into believers that technology makes a difference in the classroom and that you just have to use it. The truth is, a great teacher is marked not by the amount of technology they use, or how quickly they can navigate a complex interface, but by how they are able to take the aggregate resources available to them, and design the most powerful learning experience they possibly can PERIOD. Yes, the 21st century has brought change to what we can use to teach our students, but let us not forget what we each recall form our own learning experiences. It all starts with a passionate teacher who always wants to try something new."Kevin White is a teacher, a learning designer, a technologist, and "a risk taker who has stumbled, faltered and failed so many times, that I feel I have learned some very valuable lessons along the way." His career started as a History Teacher in Santee, California at West Hills High School, but his first 8 years included teaching 16 different courses (mostly STEM, but also just about every 6-12th grade Social Science/History course in existence)He's currently teaching STEM at De Portola Middle in San Diego Unified School District and "Virtual Reality, Virtual Worlds and the Future of Learning" at San Diego State University.
