David S. Walker is the retired, Dwight D. Opperman Distinguished Professor of Law, Emeritus, at Drake Law School, where he twice served as Dean of the Law School, from 1987-1996 and again from 2003-2008. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the ACLU of Iowa and also the Executive Committee of the NAACP Des Moines Branch. With his colleague Russell E. Lovell, II, Walker is Co-Chair of the Legal Redress Committee for the Des Moines Branch as well as the State NAACP in Iowa. He has worked with the NAACP State Conference on many initiatives, including anti-racial and ethnic profiling, fair chance for employment (“Ban the Box”), jury selection and management legislation, and the Governor’s Executive Order Number 7 restoring the right to vote for persons previously convicted of a felony. Walker has co-authored, with Mr. Lovell, five Amicus Curiae Briefs in the Iowa Supreme Court on behalf of the NAACP. The issues in these have included a challenge to the constitutionality of pretextual traffic stops (written in conjunction with counsel for the ACLU of Iowa), the constitutional right to an Impartial Jury drawn from a fair cross section of the community served by the trial court, the authority of the Iowa Civil Rights Commission (which a private corporation claimed had been ousted by an employee’s arbitration agreement), and the validity of “Ban the Box” ordinances passed at the local level. Since 2010 Walker has also been the Chair of the Iowa State Bar Association’s Corporate Laws Committee, and since 1992 he has been appointed by successive Iowa Governors to be one of Iowa’s three Commissioners on Uniform State Laws. He is Chair of the Iowa Commission. July 27th, 2004 - A little known State Senator from Illinois took the stage at the Democratic National Convention and gave America a glimpse into its future. John Kerry accepted the nomination of his party, but it was Barack Obama who made everyone think HE should be the next President of the United States. Hearing Senator Obama tell the story of his origin, bringing together two continents, two families, two completely different paths which merged to forge one man, allowed us to hope. His verse,“We’re not red states, We’re not blue states, We’re the United States of America!” still echoes within the soul of those who worked to turn his candidacy into a Presidency. He showed us that America is still the land where impossible dreams can be made into reality. He gave me, a black man from Chicago, goosebumps.August 26th, 2020 - I was on a Zoom Call, interviewing a little known candidate for a County Supervisor in Maricopa County, Arizona I got those familiar goosebumps. Hearing Jevin Hodge, a young man raised by a single mom, tell you about the time he told his class of underserved students “I Love You” will make you remember the goodness of this country. Listening to him, I felt the love in my heart and the spirit of hope bubbling in my chest. Then, hearing Jevin talk about how to bridge the communication divide between the four generations in our workforce and how to make smart investments to build our future gave me the certainty that he has the mental capacity to keep pace with our ever-changing society. He has the heart to inspire hope and the mind to deliver change.Listening to how confident and competent Jevin is, one could envision him defeating any Arizona Republican in the 2022 Governor’s Race or being in contention for The Presidency in 2028 or 2032 (Yes, he’s that good!). Miles Stroth began his study of improvisation in 1987 at the famed Second City Theater in Chicago. In 1990 he began working with Charna Halpern and Del Close at the then ImprovOlympic, now IO in Chicago. Miles has been associated with the IO, teaching, performing, directing, ever since. Wanting to express his own unique perceptions of the work to students, Miles opened The Miles Stroth Workshop in 2007.Miles was a member of the seminal improv team The Family, whose members included Adam Mckay, Matt Besser, Ian Roberts, Neil Flynn and Ali Farahnakian. The Family, directed by Del Close, created and introduced into the improv world The Deconstruction and The Movie forms. Miles had the privilege of working with the late Del Close for eight years. Del saw the improv community as a tribe with himself as the Mojo Man and referred to Miles as his Warchief.Miles has been performing weekly since 1992 and has performed in well over 1000 long-form shows. Miles has created or had a hand in creating many of the long-forms that play around the country today. Among them, The Armando, The Deconstruction, The Movie, The La Ronde and Two-Person Long-Form. MATTHEW WIGLER, from Long Island, New York, is an incoming Annenberg Fellow at Eton College in the United Kingdom, where he will be teaching courses on “US Government and Politics” and “Political Polarization.” As a 2020 Mitchell Scholar at Trinity College Dublin, Wigler pursued a master’s degree in International Politics in Ireland and was active with Democrats Abroad. He served as a student senator and as vice president of the College Democrats at Stanford University in California’s Silicon Valley, where he graduated in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Honors in International Security.
