Send us Fan MailLong distance parenting plans, blended families, and Arizona child custody look very different from the inside. Billie Tarascio talks with Modern Law attorney Eilen E. Castellano Tatis, who spent her childhood moving between her mom's home in New York and her dad's home in Utah after her parents divorced. Eilen explains what her parents did right, why she still credits them at 26, and how that experience shapes the way she guides Arizona families through divorce and custody today. Eilen E. Castellano Tatis is a family law attorney at Modern Law, serving clients across Arizona in divorce, child custody, and parenting plan matters. She started her career as a homicide prosecutor in Maricopa County, moved to civil litigation at a 170 plus attorney Phoenix firm, and chose family law because it lets her advocate for people instead of entities. She earned her law degree at the University of Arizona and brings courtroom experience plus lived experience to every case.Key Takeaways:- Long distance parenting plans can still build close relationships with both parents- Kids carry the memory of how their parents handled the split- Keep children out of the middle instead of using them as messengers- Remarriage and stepfamilies change the dynamic more than the divorce itself- Parents who protect the other parent's relationship give their kids stability- Zealous advocacy and de-escalation work together in family law- Winning one argument today can cost your client the next ten years- Ask what you are actually trying to accomplish before you escalate- Family law rewards emotional intelligence as much as legal skill- Separate what feels upsetting from what needs a legal response- Criminal cases end at sentencing while family cases shape the future- Choose mentors who want you to outgrow themChapters:00:00 Meet Eilen Castellano Tatis00:58 Growing up between two households04:31 How her parents kept her out of the conflict07:41 The moment that led her to law10:29 Homicide prosecution and the toll it takes13:44 Why she moved to family law15:42 When to fight and when to de-escalate22:34 Cycling, mentors, and life outside court28:37 The clients and cases she wants mostConnect with Eilen E. For almost five years, the Fernandez family told me their doctor's husband was terrorizing them. Threatening messages, unpaid pizza deliveries, police at the door for crimes that never happened. Three weeks ago, Peoria police surrounded their house with a search warrant and seized every device inside. Nobody was arrested that day. Then this week, one of the Fernandez children was booked into a Maricopa County jail on more than thirty counts, including stalking, making a terrorist threat, and sexual exploitation of a minor. All charges are allegations. No one has been convicted, and the case is ongoing. Gaydos and Gayle Bass host another edition of the Faceoff. They are joined by former Maricopa County recorder Stephen Richer, former Azcentral columnist Laurie Roberts and former Phoenix City Councilman Sal DiCiccio. They discuss the war with Iran, election security and more!
Former Maricopa County Recorder, Stephen Richer, joined Arizona's Morning News to talk about a Pew Research poll showing that barely half of Republicans and Democrats trust the Midterm elections will be fair.
You’re listening to American Ground Radio with Stephen Parr and Louis R. Avallone. This is the full show for August 10, 2026. We kick things off with Iran's audacious demand for war reparations from the United States — and President Trump's brilliant response that flips the script and opens up Iran's own record of terror funding, hostage-taking, and brutality against its own people for the world to see. Then we run through the Top 3 things you need to know: President Trump's executive order spacing out childhood vaccines and trimming the recommended schedule, the DOJ's lawsuit against New York, Connecticut, and Vermont over in-state tuition for illegal aliens, and the Pentagon renaming Joint Base Charleston to Joint Base Lindsey Graham in honor of the late senator. We dig into the disturbing pattern of violence in the WNBA, including the flagrant hit on Sophie Cunningham, and ask our American Mamas whether Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White should be allowed to play in the WNBA after applying under the league's gender rules. We break down new numbers showing marijuana use has overtaken both daily cigarette and alcohol use in America — and why that should worry us more than it does. In Digging Deep, we expose how a soft-on-crime plea deal in Maricopa County let a confessed murderer walk free, only for him to allegedly torch 700 homes in Spokane, Washington. We also cover the discovery that British Royal Navy sea drones have been caught communicating with a server in China. There's a Bright Spot in new Gallup polling showing more Americans — especially Republicans — believe parents should be married before having kids. We call out the University of Michigan for hiding freshman grades behind a pass/no-credit system that shields students from the consequences that build real character. And we close by remembering Ben Jones, the actor who played Cooter on The Dukes of Hazzard and went on to serve in Congress, who passed away this weekend at 85. May your pursuit of happiness bring you joy. Jon Herold pre records a lighter Thursday show ahead of a Florida trip, walking through John Solomon's latest declassified documents on a 2020 Maricopa County voter data hack that the Biden Justice Department never prosecuted, though he admits the release feels underwhelming compared to what he was hoping for. He covers the Senate Homeland Security Committee voting to hold Fauci in contempt of Congress despite his Biden era pardon, a Washington Post report on Trump and Hegseth clashing over munitions shortages that the White House denies happened, and a striking story on Palantir's remarkably low effective tax rate. There's also a look at online debate swirling around General Flynn's paid speaking activities, jobless claims data, and a viral burrito pricing controversy tied to affordability complaints. Sponsor reads, birthday shoutouts, and Sunday meetup details for Jupiter, Florida round out a shorter but newsy show.

Anthony Fauci is back in the spotlight after the Senate Homeland Security Committee passed a contempt resolution against him, while three state attorneys general subpoenaed records tied to his COVID guidance, financial interests, and possible personal profit. Amber also examines newly released FBI records showing that more than 633,000 Maricopa County voter files were accessed before the 2020 election, yet four prosecutorial offices declined to bring charges. Then, the Democratic Party's internal fight grows more intense as socialist candidates defeat incumbents, establishment groups prepare a multimillion-dollar response, and Michigan Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed faces new scrutiny over past comments involving the Muslim Brotherhood. Other stories include China's role inside America's internet infrastructure, the FCC's decision to eliminate the national television ownership cap, court victories protecting Christian speech, the removal of Miss North Carolina USA over old social media posts, and unresolved migrant-child cases tied to Xavier Becerra's tenure at HHS. With the upcoming Midterm elections and the balance of power in Congress up for grabs, people are concerned that the Trump administration will meddle in election results. On today's show, guest host Tony Castañeda speaks with election expert Stephen Richer, who says we should have confidence in the free and fair elections process that our local election officials oversee. In Richer's recent article for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, he reaffirms the 2020 presidential election results in Wisconsin. There were several post-election audits that found no cheating or mass fraud. But Richer's criticism of a Trump supporting group's audit of the 2020 Maricopa County election results earned him the ire of the President and MAGA supporters. There are real concerns coming from the federal government, from Trump's executive orders on election administration that are held up in the courts to the scaling back of cyber security services that are provided to election administrators. Richer says that the success and security of primary elections this year is a good sign, and he encourages listeners to get involved as temporary election workers, share facts with their friends and family, and reach out to election administrators if you have concerns. At the end of the day, election officials are your neighbors, and we should be concerned not only by the lack of trust in free and fair elections but by the lack of trust in our communities. Stephen Richer is a Fellow and Lecturer at the Harvard Kennedy School, Legal Fellow at the Cato Institute, former elected Republican in Maricopa County, and former lawyer. He's also on the board of the Democracy Defenders Action. Featured image of a ballot machine via Flickr (CC BY-NC-SA 2.0). Did you enjoy this story? Early tallies for the midterm primaries show that Arizona Republicans have put their trust in MAGA-style candidates for the top three spots on the November ballot. For the most part, the primary races were decided soon after an unexpectedly smooth election day. Voting in Maricopa County, a hotbed for election denialism and backbiting over election responsibilities, went off without any major glitches. This was the 273rd meeting of the Green Grassroots Emergency Election Coalition Zoom call, hosted by Harvey Wasserman and featuring discussions on election protection and global citizenship. The meeting opened with Arthur Kanegis presenting his documentary film "The World Is My Country" about Gary Davis, a former Broadway actor who became the first official world citizen and advocated for global governance through the United Nations. The film highlighted how Davis's actions helped lead to the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. The discussion then transitioned to election protection issues in Arizona, where John Brakey and Ken Bennett explained their concerns about the state's hand-count audit system, particularly how pre-selecting batches of ballots for verification could potentially compromise election security. They detailed how 80% of Arizona ballots are cast by mail, with Maricopa County (containing 2.9 million registered voters) being particularly significant for state elections. The conversation covered various aspects of voting infrastructure, including the use of paper ballots versus ballot marking devices, and the challenges in maintaining election security across different states with varying systems and regulations.

Americans all rightly make a great deal about our democracy. But the partisan element sets in quickly, and the incessant debate extends even beyond the candidates and initiatives on the ballot. Stephen Richer (a fellow of the Cato Institute and Harvard Kennedy School and former Maricopa County recorder) joins Henry to discuss past and contemporary […]
CannCon and Ashe in America take apart a Deseret News profile that positions Steven Richer, the former Maricopa County recorder behind the infamous "Drawer 3" ballot scandal, as the trusted Republican voice on why California's elections are secure. They walk through his claims about audits, fraud detection, and mail-in deadlines, pointing out that the very system he defends prioritizes ballot access over ballot accuracy. A philosophy clip on the structural impossibility of proving election fraud sparks a deeper conversation about why the design of the system, not any single data point, is the real evidence of intent. The bulk of the episode is dedicated to a detailed reaction to an interview with Nathan Taylor, cofounder of the Election Truth Alliance, where CannCon and Ashe scrutinize his heat map methodology comparing US elections to Russian vote-rigging patterns, question his claimed cybersecurity credentials, and point out that the interviewer never asked a single hard question. They close by noting that despite years of public invitations, groups like ETA still refuse to appear on the show, a pattern they argue reveals selective, partisan motives rather than genuine election truth seeking.
